To prove that there is no such thing as a soul, Bart sells his to Milhouse for $5.00. Shortly afterwords, Bart's pets act hostile towards him and he thinks that Itchy & Sctratchy are no longer funny. After witnessing the changes in Bart, Lisa suspects that he really did lose his soul.

Bart tries to buy back his soul from Milhouse, but Milhouse wants $50 for it. At the grand opening of Moe's new family style restaurant, isa taunts Bart with a prayer before dinner. Bart jumps up and leaves the restaurant to make one last attept to reclaim his soul.

Bart tracks down Milhouse at his grandmother's house, where he learns that Milhouse traded his soul for Alf pogs at the Android's Dungeon. Bart camps outside the comic book store only to find out that the dealer sold his soul to someone else. As Bart prays for his soul, Lisa hands it back to him, having bought it from the comic book dealer the night before.
