JULY 11th, 2008

Hello! Today has been a fun day for us. We flew into Beijing 1 day early so today is a free day! We were up and ready to go to breakfast at 9:00am. We headed to the breakfast buffet which was included for us and it was very good. Mike had rice and dumplings with breakfast, not me though! A lot of fruit for me! We then headed out to investigate Beijing on our own.

We walked around quite a bit and felt like the show at the circus! LOL! Everywhere we went people stared! Oh well. We do look different!

We went in a little store and wanted to buy a Gatorade and a water. The store clerk did not speak English and we could not figure out how much money he wanted. We ended up putting the water back and figured out how much he wanted for one item instead. Then we walked around some more. We saw an Outback, KFC, and McDonald's.

Outside one of the Olympic
buildings... Look, an Outback!

In fact we had McDonald's for lunch. Mike had a Big Mac meal and I had an ice cream cone. All for 25.50 Yuan which is around 4 US dollars. Not bad. Then we found a little shop with very pretty jewelry. Mike told me to get something and I did not want to spend the money but I did end up with pretty silver earrings.

After that Mike saw a Budweiser sign and decided he needed a beer in China. So we stopped in there for a few minutes.

Mike, happy with a Bud!

Mmmmm... Coke Light!

After that we headed to the grocery and picked up some snacks and drinks for the room...

Our snacks!

... It is hard getting used to the money here especially since we do not have the guide today to help with translations.

We then headed back to the hotel for a little rest as it is VERY warm and muggy here. The hotel is nice. In order to turn lights on in the room you must put your room key into a holder by the door and when leaving you take the key out and approximately 1 minute later any lights on in the room turn off. Mike said he wished we had that at home! There is also a doorbell for the room! Funny!

Well after resting for a little while we headed to the spa for a foot massage. They did your upper back and feet for 45 minutes. It was Mike's first! We both enjoyed it.

Foot massages completed

When we were finished it was raining really hard so we came back to the room to wait out the rain for a little while around 5:00pm before dinner, and guess what? Mike was watching TV and I fell asleep. Well I woke a little while ago at 10:00pm and Mike is also asleep. I do not know when he fell asleep, but I guess it will be snacks for dinner tonight! LOL!

Well, 2 more sleeps to Sadena. Tomorrow is a packed day with our first tour. "Talk" to you tomorrow!
