Today is Orphanage Day. After breakfast, we all loaded into the tour bus for our trip to the orphanage. All of us except for Doug, that is. He was having a bout with, as we call it in America, "Montezuma's Revenge", and wasn't sure he could sit still for the entire trip. The bus ride was about two hours each way and was filled with the usual traffic and horn blowing.
Upon arrival to the orphanage, the Director invited us into a room with a table adorned with quite a spread of the locally grown fruit. Several of the fruits look very typical, but actually have a taste that doesn't seem to match their appearance. One particular fruit has the shape of an apple, the color of a pear and a taste that is a hybrid of the two. Another very plum-looking banana actually has the flavor of apple.
The Director informed us that the caregivers had really missed the girls for the past week and wanted to come in and spend some time with them. The girls were happy to see them and went to them readily. This was a little unsettling at first, but proved to be no problem since they all returned happily to their adoptive parents when the time came.
![]() All the families were very well pleased with the cleanliness and organization of the orphanage. The facilities were wonderful and the caregivers truly loved and cared about each and every child. After the ride home, Alyse made her first appearance at the hotel pool wearing the latest swimsuit with hat attire.
