Today is Sunday and this is the first time for us to take Alyse to church. The weather changed and it has really cooled off. Well, cooled off is a relative term. We are still in shorts and are very comfortable but the locals are wearing sweaters and coats. Since we did not bring winter clothes for Alyse, she had to go to church in her warm pajamas....

![]() The service was non-denominational and given in both Cantonese and English. Everywhere else we have gone in China we have felt very much like outsiders. Even though the local people are very friendly, we just haven't felt like we truly belonged. But there is a decidedly different feel inside that little church. The place was packed from back to front and wall to wall. And when I say packed, I mean it. The benches are spaced for people of Chinese stature so you can guess that we both had quite a time fitting with any measure of comfort. The presence of God was very real and the people were very sweet to all the adoptive families. They sang some songs in English, but the thing that really struck us was listening to them praise God while singing in Cantonese. Even though we could not understand a single word, we were sure that God was truly being adored. We thank God that we can feel a closeness to Him and all His children no matter where we are in this big world. After church, we had lunch at Lucy's and then went out for a few hours of shopping. Lucy's is a local restaurant that serves western-style dishes along with the local traditional favorites.
![]() That's all for today. We are planning a trip to the orphanage tomorrow.
