Johnson Central lost four first half fumbles but utilized their high octane ground game to roll up 438 yards and eight touchdowns on 36 carries to earn a 59-20 victory over Knox County.  Johnson County raced out to a 21-0 first quarter lead but Knox Central cut the deficit to seven; 21-14 midway through the second quarter but Johnson Central led 29-14 at halftime.  Knox Central then made a costly mistake when their punter bobbled a snap and Johnson Central took over on the Knox Central 10 yard line.  Devin Johnson then scored on a 5 yard line and the Golden Eagles were never threatened.  Johnson Central recorded 17 first downs and 513 yards of total offense.  The Golden Eagles were penalized seven times for 65 yards and lost four fumbles.  Knox Central recorded nine first downs and 207 yards of total offense.  They were penalized twice for 20 yards and lost a fumble.

Joe Jackson led Johnson Central’s ground game with 182 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.  Ryley Preece added 134 yards and three touchdowns.  Devin Johnson recorded 103 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  Ryley Preece completed three of three passes for 75 yards.  Keygan Pelphrey, Zach Russell, and Ryan Sartin-Slone each caught a pass for 37, 31, and seven yards respectively.

Ethan Mills led Knox Central’s ground game with 90 yards on 19 carries.  Seth Huff carried the ball twice for 21 yards and a touchdown.  Brady Worley completed 13 of 22 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown.  Blevin Campbell caught six passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.  Dane Imel added four receptions for 40 yards.

Corbin knocked Boyle County from the ranks of the unbeaten with a convincing 21-0 victory before an overflowing crowd in Corbin tonight.  Boyle County had overcome illness, injuries, and a tough road trip victory over Belfry last week but had remained unscathed after 13 games.  Tonight was a different story as a very well prepared Corbin came out and controlled the line of scrimmage and kept the Rebels from utilizing their big play offense.  Boyle County had their chances but they lost four turnovers with three in the red zone area of play.  The game was scoreless after the first period but Corbin scored first on a 2 yard run by Grant Gibson and a conversion kick by Will Childers to make the score 7-0 with 8:57 remaining in the half.  Boyle County fought back but a Reed Lanter pass was intercepted by Cole Shelton at the three yard line.  Boyle County blocked a 37 yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of the half to go to the locker room trailing 7-0.  The Redhounds scored on a seven yard run by Chase Estep and another conversion kick by Will Childers to make the score 14-0 midway through the third quarter.  The Rebels threatened again but a lost fumble on the Corbin 11 yard line ended the drive. 

The Rebels trailed 14-0 in the final quarter and gave the ball back to Corbin on a bad snap at the Boyle County 2 yard line and Chase Estep scored on a 4 yard run and Childers added the kick to give Corbin a 21-0 lead and put the proverbial nail-in-the-coffin.  Corbin shut the door for good when they recovered another Boyle County on the Corbin 6 yard line with a little over 4 minutes left in the game.  Boyle County turned the ball over too much and also Reese Smith suffered an injury in the game and was not a factor tonight.  Corbin shut down Boyle County’s ground game, did not allow the Rebels their normal big plays, and flawlessly ran their offense to record a big win.

Corbin recorded 17 first downs and 295 yards.  The Redhounds were penalized nine times for 70 yards and did not commit any turnovers.  Boyle County recorded 11 first downs and 209 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized six times for 40 yards, lost three fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Chase Estep led Corbin’s ground game with 81 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Nick Yeager added 60 yards on eight carries and Treyveon Longmire recorded 29 yards on four carries.  Chase Estep completed seven of 17 passes for 75 yards.  Jacob Steely caught five passes for 37 yards.  Devyn Sams added one reception for 28 yards.

Tanner Crawford led Boyle County’s ground game with 48 yards on 12 carries.  Reed Lanter completed 19 of 26 passes for 151 yards with one interception.  Reiley Colwick caught six passes for 84 yards.  Luke Sheperson added five receptions for 34 yards.  Reese Smith caught two passes for one yard.

Scott County raced out to a 27-0 first quarter lead on their way to a 40-6 victory over Madison Central.  Scott County opened the scoring with an 83 yard run by Bronson Brown and the conversion lick to lead 7-0.  Scott County’s Payton Brown blocked a punt and later scored on a one yard run to make the score 14-0.  Glenn Covington then dialed long distance twice; once on a 58 yard touchdown pass from Cade McKee then on a 75 yard interception return to spark Scott County to their 27-0 cushion.  Madison Central was unable to match Scott County’s speed, intensity, and athleticism on this particular night.  The Indians finished the season at 10-4 and captured their first regional football title.  Scott County recorded 11 first downs and 375 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized four times for 23 yards.  Madison Central recorded eight first downs and 145 yards of total offense.  The Indians were penalized six times for 46 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Bronson Brown led Scott County’s ground game with 114 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.  Jeremy Hamilton carried the ball twice for 28 yards.  Payton Brown added 26 yards and a touchdown on four carries.  Austin Barnett carried the ball eight times for 17 yards and a touchdown.  Cade McKee completed four of five passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.  Glenn Covington caught two passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.  Payton Brown added one reception for a 51 yard touchdown.  Cade Mullins caught a 49 yard pass.  Berk Watts led the defense with three solo and five assisted tackles.  Rylan Reed added one solo and seven assisted tackles.  Outstanding OL/DL Bryan Hudson recorded three solo and three assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards.  Glenn Covington intercepted a pass he returned 75 yards for a touchdown.

Freddie Chenault led Madison Central’s ground attack with 79 yards on 15 carries.  Derrick Miller carried the ball six times for 29 yards and a touchdown.  Derrick Miller completed three of 13 passes for 18 yards with one interception.  Drew Muntz caught one pass for 15 yards.  Ethan Hahn returned six kickoffs for 113 yards with a long return of 35 yards.  Blake Muntz punted three times for a 40.0 yard average with a long punt of 53 yards with two punts inside the 20 yard line.  Jackson Juett led the defense with two solo and five assisted tackles.  John Collins added two solo and four assisted tackles.  David Rhodes recorded two solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.

Covington Catholic raced out to a 36-0 halftime lead on their way to a 36-14 victory over Pulaski County.  Covington Catholic improves to 14-0 and advances to the 5A championship game.  Pulaski County finishes their season at 11-3. Wiley Cain finishes his career at Pulaski County with 35 touchdown passes.  Jake Sloan finished the year with 117 catches for 1670 yards and 13 touchdowns.  Covington Catholic recorded eight first downs and 259 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized four times for 27 yards and lost a fumble.  Pulaski County recorded 13 first downs and 209 yards of total offense.  The Maroons were penalized three times for 33 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

Casey McGinness led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 70 yards and a touchdown on six carries.  Caleb Jacob completed seven of eight passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns.  Luke Summe caught two passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.  Casey McGinness added two receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown.  Jack Coldiron caught a 55 yard touchdown pass.  Casey McGinness returned one punt for 59 yards.  D. Felix led the defense with four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a nine yard loss.  L. Stegman, M. Mayer, and J. Blank each recorded three solo tackles.  B. Dickhaus intercepted a pass.

T. Cox led Pulaski County’s ground game with 23 yards on four carries.  Wiley Cain completed 21 of 33 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Jake Sloan caught eight passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.  E. Casada added three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.  I. Ware returned three kickoffs for 56 yards with a long return of 23 yards.  E. Mercer returned two kickoffs for 38 yards with a long return of 19 yards.  K. Hargis led the defense with seven solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss.  E. Mercer added five solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.

Kennesaw State coach Al Skinner started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. Isaac Mbuyamba, 6-8 Jr. Bryson Lockley, 6-8 Sr. Kosta Jankovic, 6-0 Jr. Tyler Hooker, and 6-5 Sr. Kyle Clarke.  Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton countered with 6-8 Jr. Lachlan Anderson, 6-5 So. Peyton Broughton, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.

 

Eastern Kentucky University scored 61 points in the second half to pull away for a 100-81 victory over Kennesaw state.  Eastern Kentucky shot 50% from the field including 13 of 30 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 Kennesaw State turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky held a 40-16 advantage in bench scoring.  Kennesaw state shot 44.4% from the field including two of eight from beyond the arc.  They connected on 31 of 41 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored nine points off seven Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

 

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 28 points including four three point baskets, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots.  6-2 Fr. Jomaru Brown added 21 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Peyton Broughton recorded 13 points including three three point baskets.

 

Tyler Hooker led Kennesaw State with 29 points including 13 of 14 free throws and seven rebounds.  Kyle Clarke added 20 points including 10 of 14 free throws and seven rebounds.  6-8 Fr. Ugo Obineke recorded 16 points.

Cierra Hooks, and 5-9 Jr. Amani Burke.

 

Ohio University raced out to a 35-12 first quarter lead on their way to a 100-60 victory over Eastern Kentucky University.  Ohio University shot 55.2% from the field including 10 of 18 from the three point line.  The Bobcats connected on 26 of 34 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 18 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 31.7% from the field including 11 of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on nine of 13 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 10 Ohio University turnovers.

 

Cierra Hooks led Ohio University with 21 points, six rebounds, and six steals.  5-11 Fr. Erica Johnson added 19 points, six rebounds, and eight assists.  Amani Burke recorded 18 points including three three point baskets.  Gabby Burris chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds.  5-8 Fr. Kaylee Bambule also reached double figures with 12 points on four three point baskets.

 

5-11 Sr. Abby Wright led Eastern Kentucky with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Bria Bass added 14 points including four three point baskets.  Teri Goodlett recorded 13 points including two three point baskets.  Hailey McCoy chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. Isaiah Brown, 6-5 So. Trae Berhow, 6-9 Jr. Luke McDonnell, 6-2 Sr. Wyatt Lohaus, and 6-4 Fr. A.J. Green.  Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton countered with 6-5 So. Peyton Broughton, 6-5 Jr. Jordan Oakley, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.

 

Northern Iowa led by 17 points with 4:29 left in the game but had to survive a furious rally by Eastern Kentucky to earn a 90-85 victory over the Colonels.  Northern Iowa shot 44.8% from the field including 11 of 27 from the three point line.  They connected on 27 of 33 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 15 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 38% from the field including 13 of 37 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 18 of 23 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Northern Iowa turnovers.

 

A.J. Green led Northern Iowa with 23 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Jr. Spencer Haldeman added 16 points including four three point baskets.  Luke McDonnell recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Isaiah Brown also scored 13 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists.  Wyatt Lohaus chipped in with 12 points including two three point baskets.

 

Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky with 27 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds.  6-8 Jr. Lachlan Anderson added 14 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and two steals.  Peyton Broughton recorded 12 points including three three point baskets.  6-8 Fr. Tre King also scored 12 points.  Kelvin Robinson added 12 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton started the following lineup: 6-5 So. Peyton Broughton, 6-5 Jr. Jordan Oakley, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson.  Kansas State coach Bruce Weber countered with 6-8 Sr. Dean Wade, 6-5 Jr. Xavier Sneed, 6-9 Jr. Makol Mawien, 6-0 Sr. Kamau Stokes, and 6-3 Sr. Barry Brown Jr.

 

Kansas State dominated in the paint (50-30 points) and pulled away late for a 95-68 victory over Eastern Kentucky University.  Kansas State shot 55.2% from the field including four of 17 from the three point line.  They connected on 17 of 23 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 17 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Kansas State had a 17-2 advantage in fast break points and a 41-30 advantage in bench scoring.  Eastern Kentucky shot 39.1% from the field including eight of 28 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 13 Kansas State turnovers.

 

Xavier Sneed led Kansas State with 16 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  6-4 So. Carter Diarra added 14 points, four assists, and blocked two shots.  Dean Wade also scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists.  Barry Brown recorded 10 points and six rebounds.  Kamau Stokes added 10 points and five assists.  6-7 Jr. Austin Trice chipped in with six points and 10 rebounds.

 

Dujuanta Weaver led Eastern Kentucky with 12 points on four three point baskets.  Nick Mayo added 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  6-4 Fr. Houston King recorded eight points including two three point baskets.

Eastern Kentucky University rolled up 405 yards of total offense and the defense forced four turnovers including a touchdown on an interception return on their way to a 37-6 victory over Tennessee Tech.  Eastern Kentucky improves their record to 7-4 for the season.  Eastern Kentucky recorded 22 first downs and 405 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized seven times for 50 yards and lost a fumble.  Tennessee Tech recorded 15 first downs and 237 yards of total offense.  The Golden Eagles were penalized seven times for 46 yards, lost two fumbles, and had two passes intercepted.

LJ Scott led Eastern Kentucky’s ground game with 27 yards on 11 carries.  Parker McKinney carried the ball 10 times for 11 yards and a touchdown.  Parker McKinney completed 31 of 42 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns.  BK Smith caught 12 passes for 163 yards.  Jerome Gross added six receptions for 61 yards.  Dan Paul caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Beerman added three receptions for 40 yards.  Daryl McCleskey caught an eight yard touchdown pass.  Jaelin Carter returned two punts for 27 yards with a long return of 19 yards and returned one kickoff for 22 yards.  Sam Hayworth connected on field goals of 43, 33, and 36 yards and missed on a 38 yard attempt.  Aaron Patrick led the defense with four solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 10 yards.  Gavin Bryant added three solo and three assisted tackles.  Jordan Whitfield recorded five solo tackles.  TJ Comstock recorded three solo tackles and scored on a 27 yard interception return.  Jared Tucker also intercepted a pass and Leonard Humphrey recovered a fumble.

Andr. Goldsmith led Tennessee Tech’s ground game with 59 yards on 12 carries.  Adam Browner completed 14 of 31 passes for 129 yards with two interceptions.  J. Cunningham caught six passes for 49 yards.  Seth Huner added two receptions for 30 yards.  DJ Wilkes recorded two receptions for 27 yards.  J. Cunningham returned one kickoff for 35 yards.  Nick Madonia kicked field goals of 45 and 20 yards and punted six times for a 42.2 average with along punt of 50 yards.  Shannon Fayne led the defense with five solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a five yard loss.  Jake Warwick added two solo and six assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a four yard loss.  Josh Poplar also recorded two solo and six assisted tackles.  JayQuan Coles recovered a fumble.

Campbellsville 26 Crittenden County 21 – Malachi Corley carried the ball 11 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Beechwood 49 Frankfort 8 – Logan Castleman carried the ball 23 times for 258 yards and five touchdowns.

Class 2A Playoffs

 

Christian Academy of Louisville 34 DeSales 7 – Milton Wright carried the ball five times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and caught eight passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Somerset 35 Lexington Christian Academy 31 – Kaiya Sheron passed for 205 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 31 yards and added another touchdown.  Somerset’s defense stopped LCA on a last second goal line stand.

 

Mayfield 57 Murray 13 – Connor Guthrie ran for three touchdowns to lead Mayfield.

Central 26 Russell 0 – Ukari Baker caught three passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.  Central has recorded seven shut outs this year and has outscored opponents 148-0 in three playoff games.

 

Boyle County 41 Belfry 24 – Reed Lanter completed 16 of 26 passes for 264 yards and five touchdowns.  Reese Smith caught six passes for 138 yards and four touchdowns and intercepted a pass.

 

LaRue County 40 Elizabethtown 32 – Anthony Adkins carried the ball 27 times for 214 yards and three touchdowns.  LaRue County trailed 32-12 late in the third quarter.

Taylor County 22 Moore 17 – Grant McQueary completed 10 of 18 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Pulaski County 13 Southeastern 6 – Tristan Cox carried the ball 18 times for 121 yards and a touchdown.

 

South Oldham 35 Fern Creek 12 – Anthony Pierce completed five of seven passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.

Madison Central 28 Conner 27 (2OT) – Freddie Chenault carried the ball 27 times for 85 yards and two touchdowns and the Indians win their first football region championship.

 

Trinity 50 Ballard 0 – Seth Jutz completed six of 13 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Scott County 56 Simon Kenton 28 – Austin Barnett led Scott County with 182 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries.  Jon Sergent carried the ball 19 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns and caught three passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns to lead Simon Kenton.

 

Male 20 St, Xavier 10 – Garrett Dennis ran for one touchdown and threw a 14 yard touchdown pass to Izayah Cummings.
