Lafayette vs. Boyle County (Boys)

Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. William Watkins, 6-0 Sr. Harrison Lane, 6-6 Sr. Ross Jenkins, 5-10 Jr. Chris Wharton, and 5-10 Sr. Jaelin Jenkins.  Boyle County coach Steve Adams countered with 6-4 Sr. Mack Cox, 6-0 Sr. Josiah Robbins, 6-6 Sr. Colton Elkins, 5-10 So. Bryce Slone, and 6-0 So. Jason Alexander.

 

Lafayette trailed 46-35 after three quarters but rallied for a 54-53 victory over Boyle County.  Boyle County’s Colton Elkins missed two free throws with 0.5 seconds left on the clock.  The score was tied four times and there were four lead changes in the game.  This was a game of runs as the score was tied 10-10 after the first quarter and Lafayette led 24-20 at halftime.  Boyle County led 46-35 after three quarters but Lafayette outscored the Rebels 19-7 in the final quarter to earn the victory.

 

Lafayette shot 30.6% from the field including six of 24 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on four of eight free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 21 Boyle County turnovers.  Lafayette attempted 32 more shots (72-40) from the field than Boyle County.  Boyle County shot 45% from the field including five of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Rebels connected on 12 of 25 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Ross Jenkins led Lafayette with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  6-0 Jr. Cameron Greenup added 12 points including three three point baskets and three steals.  Harrison Lane chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets.

 

Colton Elkins led Boyle County with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 blocks.  Bryce Slone added 12 points including three three point baskets and five rebounds.  Josiah Robbins recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Jason Alexander also scored 11 points.
