Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup: 6-5 So. Zan Payne, 6-3 So. TC Price, 6-6 Jr. Peter Whitman, 5-11 Sr. Donovan Morris, and 6-4 Jr. Luke Johnson. Wayne County coach Rodney Woods countered with 6-4 So. Jakson Baker, 6-1 Jr. Logan Brett, 6-6 Sr. Nick Gillespie, 6-0 Sr. Trey Blevins, and 6-2 Sr. Corey Stearns.
Trey Blevins hit a three point basket with 27 seconds remaining on the clock to give Wayne County a 73-72 victory over Lexington Catholic. The score was tied six times and there were 11 lead changes in the game. Lexington Catholic led Wayne County 47-36 at halftime but Wayne County rallied in the second half fueled by connecting on seven of 12 three point attempts.
Wayne County shot 48.9% from the field including 13 of 23 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on 16 of 24 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored seven points off 11 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic shot 41.7% from the field including six of 17 from beyond the arc. The Knights connected on 16 of 23 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Wayne County turnovers.
Corey Stearns led Wayne County with 27 points including five three point baskets and six rebounds. Trey Blevins added 24 points including four three point baskets and 10 of 12 free throws. Nick Gillespie recorded eight points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Logan Brett chipped in with eight points, four assists, and two blocked shots.
Luke Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 32 points including nine of 12 free throws, six rebounds, and seven assists. Zan Payne added 13 points and 10 rebounds. 6-0 Jr. Blake Scott recorded 11 points including three three point baskets. Donovan Morris chipped in with 11 points and five assists. Peter Whitman pulled down seven rebounds and blocked two shots.
