(We are back to the Chase and Nick storyline where the two of them are interrupted by a visitor. We see Jim hit the top of the stairs to stare at Nick than Chase. He lets go of a trapped breath)
Chase: (Caught off guard, she pulls from Nick to stand) Jim?
Nick: (glaring at Jim) You better be here to help.
Chase: (sends a “hush” glare to Nick, than brings her eyes to Jim) What are you…
Jim: (approaches Chase and Nick) I’m the one who sent you the letter. Chase, I wanted you to be warned. I guess I should’ve been.
Chase: It’s been a long time.
Jim: I don’t think he knows any of it, what you went through with me… with all of us. He’ll never know.
Nick: Spill the news, buddy. I know you’re not here to make your ex-girlfriend feel guilty.
Jim: (glares at Nick) Edward will kill you for the key! He’s ruthless that way, you should know that, Chase.
Nick: What key?
Jim: (reaches forward to lift the bell into his hands) This key. The only thing that can open every door to this realm. He knows, that with it, he will have all the control over this world and yours.
Chase: What do I do?
Jim: Keep it away from him, and try to get the hell out of here.
Chase: It’s not that simple. I don’t even know how to get from this world to my own.
Jim: (holds his tongue, but seems to know something) Just stay away from him, all right? Whatever you do, do not hand over that key.
Nick: (realizing the pause) What aren’t you telling her?
Jim: Look, I’m just here to warn you. Find a way to get out, do whatever you can. Right now you have the power and he knows that. He’ll make you think different, don’t let him.
Nick: (to Chase) We’ll find a way.
Jim: (gruffly to Nick) He’ll use you too, Nick.
Nick: Forget that crap.
(Chase gazes at Nick for a moment before a realization comes over her and she races out of the attic, leaving Nick behind. As she’s racing down the stairs)
Chase: (to Jim) Nothing happens to him, right?
Jim: What are you talking about?
Chase: If I take no part in Jim’s game, he won’t do anything to Nick.
Jim: I think he should be clear. (grabs Chase’s arm at the bottom of the stairs) I still care about you, you know. Maybe I never said it, but…
Chase: (shakes away from Jim) Good, don’t say it. I don’t want sympathy or compassion. I want facts and you can give them to me, without getting all sappy, right?
Jim: I don’t know.
Chase: Jim.
Jim: I can tell you what I know.
Chase: Good.
Jim: (spins Chase around to face him) I miss you… it’s good to see you again. Can you at least say the same?
Chase: (looks up at Jim) It’s been a long time. Maybe too long.
Jim: Just say it, it will make me feel better if you do. (grins at Chase)
Chase: It’s nice to see you again, Jim. Now, lets go and fix this.
Jim: Fact- the only way you can escape this place is if you destroy your book.
Chase: (pulling from him) I can’t get to it.
Jim: Maybe I can.
Chase: You’re risking too much, doing that. I can’t let you.
Jim: (smiles) I knew you still cared.
Chase: We’ll find another way. (Holds the bell out to Jim) Open another door.
Jim: (takes the bell in his hand) Why?
Chase: Because I have to get as far away from Nick as possible.
(Jim looks up the stairs before pulling Chase closer to him, and shaking the bell. The two disappear, and this pans up the stairs to Nick, who has been watching. He sinks to the top step, and drops his head into his hands… this ends the scene in a blackout)
