The Next Obsession

This is an actual sequel to a script series that was written in 1995. I'm bringing this one out first because of the line up of characters- Backstreet Boys, Pokemon, SouthPark, Charmed, and others. This way the characters of 95 will be met at a more appropriate time in thier lives and the first one will come next as a prequel.

Obsession is one of those untouchable words. We all see it as harmless, even fun, but that's until we face it's consequences.

(This story begins in the apartment with our characters, Chase, Jessica, Dallas and Tamera. Chase is lying on her bed, listening to the music of her favorite group- the Backstreet Boys. We see that the apartment is small and cozy with Dallas’ art works hanging on the walls. With each cut we see posters of the Backstreet Boys and even a small poster of Pokemon. Most pics contain her favorite boy, Nick Carter. Cut to a small photo copied pic of Jim Carrey, haging above the door. Close up on Chase, softly humming to the soothing song, “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now” by the Backstreet Boys. Cut to the door opening and we see Jessica entering.)

Jessica: (softly) Chase?

Chase: (bolts up) Huh?

Jessica: What are you doing?

Chase: (shrugs) Just thinking to the Backstreet Boys.

Jessica: Not by any chance about that incident five years ago, right?

Chase: (sighs) I have to admit I’m worried about developing an obsession, but I can already feel it growing on me.

Jessica: You know it had nothing to do with that. Your book…

(Chase interrupts with the clearing of her throat and she reaches into her nightstand to pull out a thick manuscript)

Chase: The sequel. (hands the manuscript to Jessica) I actually can’t think of an ending for it right now. Everytime an idea comes up I’m either too lazy or I…

Jessica: Get scared?

Chase: (lowers her head) Maybe a little of that. I was thinking that I should finish it than burn it so he’ll never know.

Jessica: Chase, he’s gone now and he’ll never come back. It’s good that you’re getting back into writing, don’t let him scare you away from your passion.

Chase: (takes her manuscript back from Jessica) I’m trying, but ever since I remembered everything that happened I can’t stop worrying that it will happen again.

Jessica: (smiles) No way can something like that happen again and besides, you have this… (she reached forward to lift Chase’s small harmony bell, attached to a silk string) Nothing can happen to you now.

Chase: (laughs and clutches the bell) It’s worked this long.

(Dallas enters, smirking and peeking around the door)

Dallas: Are you talking about that weird experience again?

Chase: No, we were talking about my bell and… the Backstreet Boys.

Dallas: (approaches the stereo to turn it up) I love this song! (sings, The One)

(We hear Tamera’s voice from outside the room)

Tamera’s Voice: I want my own apartment! You get to do whatever you want, don’t you?

(Dallas, Chase and Jessica leave the bedroom to meet Tamera in the living room where she is busy admiring the long couch and standing lamps. Close up on Chase, watching her)

Chase: Enjoy youth while you still have it, Tam.

Tamera: (shrugs and enters the kitchen) I like this set up. You even have your own microwave. COOL!

Jessica: (to Chase) I know you’re friends and all that, but maybe it’d be best that she left.

Chase: We’re going soon. I promised her we’d go swimming today and we’re just waiting for four.

Dallas: (turns to Chase) Any dreams?

Chase: Just one. I keep having this reoccurring one where I’m running up these stairs and when I turn around I see Nick, but I don’t recognize him.

Dallas: (laughs) Nick Carter I’m sure would be EASY to recognize. It probably means nothing.

Chase: Well, it’s weird, I mean I’m used to one or two days of the same dream, but this one hasn’t stopped for an entire week.

Dallas: It was Nick, meaning for you that’s good and you shouldn’t complain.

Chase: Ha, ha ha. Just because it’s him doesn’t mean…

(Chase gasps and lifts her hand to her head. Immediately, she grabs for the arm of the couch)

Dallas: (worried) Oh my god… what just happened?

Chase: (gasping) Dizzy… I’m dizzy.

Dallas: (helps Chase to sit down) Now you shouldn’t get up for awhile.

Chase: (looks up) I don’t understand.

Dallas: Yeah, well it’s time to get you to the doctors.

Chase: No…

Dallas: What do you mean no? This is serious!

Chase: I probably just need to settle in. I might be just getting used to the new change in surroundings, you know. (glances around) Where’s Jess?

(That’s when we hear a scream that comes from the bathroom- it is Jessica’s) Chase: (calls) JESS!

(Tamera emerges)

Tamera: (hold up a piece of paper) She’s gone.

Chase: (laughs awkwardly) What?

(Tamera hands Chase the piece of paper she’s holding and Chase unfolds it to read)

Chase: (reading) Jessica, and Chase, once a long time ago, you entered another world. I have now been informed that you have the key to our world and others- this key insures your freedom in the real world, but in the wrong hands…Look I send you this to warn you; trouble awaits, the key is important to many people and they are just waiting for you to make the wrong move. Be careful… (folds the letter to place in her back pocket) What key?

Tamera: (laughs) This is a good joke.

Chase: (shakes her head) It can’t be happening again. (stares at Tamera) Okay! Everyone stay away from the bathroom. I will find Jessica.

Dallas: (whispers) What’s going on?

Chase: (ignores her and races to the bathroom to search for Jessica) Jess! JESSICA!

Voice: Chase, it’s so good to see you again.

(The door slams shut and Chase runs to it, struggling to open it)

Chase: (gasps) Edward?

Voice: (laughs sardonically) Come home Chase, home where you belong.

(There is a blue flash of light and Chase’s scream is the last to be heard of her… Dallas’s voice screams)

Dallas’s Voice: CHASE!
