Scene 2- Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely

(In this scene a street is shown; mist covered and dark. There is an ambulance parked at the end of the street and there is a close up on Jessica who is looking around with a look of knowing on her face of her destination. Right than we see through Jessica’s eyes, Chase who is running towards her from the direction of the ambulance. Jessica squints at the figure)

Jessica: Chase? (goes to run to her)

(We see a bus speeding down the street just as Chase is going to cross it)

Jessica: CHASE! (throws her hands out)

(Cut to Chase who we now see is distraught, there are tears streaking down her face rapidly. She goes to step off the curb when an arm comes out to grab her elbow, yanking her back. Full view on, Nick Carter who is pulling Chase to safety. Chase catches her breath as water comes up to splash the two of them. Chase is now directly facing Nick, and he has a hand on her arm)

Chase: (gasps and looks up at Nick) It’s my fault…

Nick: (angrily) What the hell are you doing? You could’ve been hit!

Chase: (struggling against Nick) Let me go. You don’t understand… no one does.

Nick: What are you talking about?

Chase: I have to make it up to him. Let me go… I must make it up to him.

Nick: What’s wrong with you?

Chase: I tried to stop… I did everything I could, but… it wasn’t enough.

(Nick turns to see a body being hauled on a stretcher out of the ambulance. Quickly, and with pain in his eyes he returns his gaze to the frantic Chase)

Nick: Who are you?

Chase: (looks to the ambulance) I’ll make it up to him, than everything will be better. He’ll understand, he has to understand… (she breaks away from Nick to race towards a clock tower. Cut to Jessica who looks after Chase, confused)

Jessica: Chase? (shakes her head) Chase, where are you going?

(Nick runs to Jessica)

Nick: Your friend is nuts.

Jessica: I don’t understand… where is she going?

Nick: (shrugs) Looks like she’s headin for the clock tower. I don’t know what she’s so upset about. Anyway, who thee hell are you people?

Jessica: (goes to catch up to Chase) She’s my sister and I have to get to her before anything happens to her.

Nick: (stops Jessica) Wait a minute. (laughs awkwardly) Okay, are you two fans?

Nick: So you’re not fans, than?

Jessica: YES! We’re fans, but…

Nick: Take it easy, I’ll go tell your friend that she won’t find the guys in the clock tower. (holds up his index finger) Be right back.

(Nick is shown running in the direction of the clock tower. He makes it to the foot of the stairs)

Nick: Chase? (steps in further) Hey Chase your sister is…

Chase’s Voice: You can’t stop me so just go away!

Nick: (starts walking up the stairs) What am I stopping you from? Can you tell me that?

Chase’s voice: (sighs) I’m… jumping.

Nick: (laughs) What?

Chase’s Voice: Go away!

Nick: Chase, come on!

Chase: Why are you calling me that? You should know who I am.

Nick: (runs up the spiral staircase now) You need to calm down now, okay? Just wait for me, all right?

Chase: Can you make it better?

Nick: Just…

Chase: STOP FOLLOWING ME!

(We see Chase in Nick’s line of vision and she has nearly made it to the top of the clock tower. Nick’s expression changes to compassion and slowly begins to climb the stairs towards Chase. Nick is possessed by the ghost of Chase’s desperation- Brian.)

Nick: (softly) Don’t do this, Desree’

Chase: I need peace…

(This is when we see the ghosts – Brian and Desree)

Brian: You’re trying to make this better, but all you’re doing is hurting an innocent. Desree’… you won’t find peace this way.

Desree’: It feels like the only way.

Brian: Darling, you know this isn’t the way, nor is this what you really wanted to do.

Desree’: It was the only way to make it up to you, Brian. I put you in that crash, it was my fault for not slowing down. I shouldn’t have been so lucky as to live through it.

(We see the two head to the top of the clock tower and Desree looks down to the street below where we see Jessica, staring up in hurt confusion)

Brian: You have to let this go.

Desree’: How?

Brian: (presses his hands to Desree’s shoulders) Understand that this was not your fault, and that I will always love you. You don’t have to make anything up to me. Be at peace, my love.

(There is a cut where we see Nick and Chase; there is a tear falling down her cheek and she smiles slightly)

(At this point in time we see both couples so there is an echo of these words between them)

Nick: Love is forever…

Chase: Love is forever…

(Next we see Nick tug Chase into a kiss- cut to Brian following the action and with each spin around them, the characters change from Brian and Desree to Nick and Chase until finally we see the two spirits leave Nick and Chase. Nick enfolds Chase into his arms and she runs her hands through his hair. The feelings that were left from the spirits slowly dissipate and the two finally part from each other. Chase is staring at Nick in shocked confusion and his eyes are wide)

Jessica’s Voice: (loudly) CHASE! NICK! Is everything okay?

Chase: (gasping, she pulls back in a stumble) Jess? (looks over the edge of the tower with a hand on her stomach)

Jessica’s Voice: You scared me!

Chase: (Avoids Nick’s eyes as she brushes past him to descend the stairway) Uh… yeah. (without looking at Nick who is following her down) Um… I’m sorry about… yeah. (In total embarrassment, she runs down the stairs, catching her breath at the bottom before heading across the street. This is where she bumps into Jessica and smiles thankfully)

Chase: We need to get out of here now.

Jessica: (nods and takes a hold of Chase’s arm to balance her) Sounds good, but we don’t know what Edward’s plan is this time.

Chase: He’s looking for a key… we give him the key and we get out of here safely.

Jessica: Okay… well uh… can you tell me what happened with Nick on the…

Chase: Not worth discussing, lets go.

(Jessica shrugs and follows Chase to try and find their way out. Nick comes up behind them)

Nick: Hey wait! Where are you two going?

Chase: (without looking at Nick) Away.

Nick: Away where?

Chase: Anywhere, but here.

Nick: (grabs Chase’s arm to twist her around to face him) Look… I’m still fuzzy on everything that happened on the tower, but I know why it did. I don’t know why Desree targeted you though. (shakes his head) Anyway… it’s good that you’re okay.

Chase: (steps back) I need to go.

Nick: Why?

Chase: Because… this isn’t right. I need to go, okay? (grabs Jessica’s arm… she has a dizzy spell and gasps heavily) We need to…

Jessica: (worried) What happened?

Chase: (shrugs) I don’t know- I was just a little dizzy.

Nick: Maybe you need someone to direct you around this place. The guys and I are doing a couple showings and then…

Chase: No, we’ll be fine.

Nick: (immediately notices the bell around Chase’s neck and picks it up on his finger) What’s this? Looks like some kind of magical device. (Nick shakes it… we hear the chime and there is a flash of white light. Cut to an empty street with Jess searching for Nick and Chase- to end the scene)
