PAST MONTHS RECAPS

*** April 1999

Gigante Silva debuted for CMLL, they continued the 'el Sindicato' angle, Ultimo Guerrero (w/ Blue Panther) won the 'Torneo gran alternativa' and the right to headline Arena Coliseo on 3 shows, Shocker rudo turn started in this month. Pirata Morgan and Mascara Sagrada (original) carried IWRG shows and AAA had Los Vatos Locos and more Perro retirement stuff with Texano joining AAA.

*** March 1999

March was the month of the biggest shows of the year, Arena Mexico saw Santito and Negro Casas finally taking Scorpio's mask and Bestia Salvaje's hair, unfortunately, this added to nothing, as it seems that nothing has changed since that night, besides, CMLL introduced the 'lighting match' concept and the Gigante Silva storyline. AAA had its 'Rey de Reyes', which was good, besides that, Los Cholos debuted and they held their first ever 'Reyna de Reynas'. IWRG was also busy with a mask match, a title match, and a battle royal called Guerra sin Escape.

- Match: Shiima Nobunaga vs Mega for the IWRG intercontinental middleweight title. That was very well done in a good championship style. The Tzuki vs Espectrito lighting match was also good in the 'one wicked highspot after the other' sense.
- Luchador: I could say Shiima, but I think he was only on a match or maybe two, so I'll go with Black Warrior, who feuded with Shocker during the month, and at the end, came on top retaining his NWA title in another good match.
- Team: Santito and Negro (Huge push, although not working that good)

***Febraury 1999

There were some big shows on Febraury that in my opinion didn't came off as good as they should (Noche del Reves and the Santo Memorial show). AAA kept going on with the same storylines for a while, rushing a Mosco vs Rey Dragon feud... meanwhile, CMLL continued doing huge numbers at Arena Coliseo, why? I simply don't know... On the other hand, I started doing IWRG recaps in this month, unfortunately, I can't have the recaps on every single show yet.

Best of the month

- Match: I liked the Ultimo Vampiro, Mega and Interceptor vs Star Boy, Mercurio and Dr Cerebro match, I think it had some good stuff and a cool storyline in which Interceptor turned rudo at the end (saddly, IWRG ignored that and has not continued the angle), there were a few wild spots and it had a good flow. The Mosco vs Rey Dragon 'mask' match was also good in terms of freaking highspots, but the match itself was ruined by the 'noche del reves' theme.
- Luchador: Universo 2000, if only, because 'his' tombstone put Rayo away for most of the year... If you don't like that... what about Perro Aguayo?? He's the most talked about guy in that month... No, really, I think that Fuerza Guerrera was the guy of the month, he helped to stablish the 'fuerza punt' storylines, and gave Olimpico a better status, close to the top of CMLL tecnicos.
- Team: Los Vatos Locos
- Move: Super Parka's comedy spots.
- Funniest Moment: Super Parka's comedy spots.

***January, 1999

* January was dominated by the first 'campaign' of the new trios champions, Dr Wagner jr, Blue Panther and Black Warrior, as they feuded Felino, Atlantis and Emilio Charles, giving us some good (but not great) matches which gave some credibility to the titles, and helped to have an incredible winter run at Arena Coliseo. AAA was sort of down with the end of year specials, but managed to show some good stuff, the Coliseo undercards were pretty good, Pantera, Super Kendo, Mr Hoy, Kid Guzman, Mr Aguila, etc, provided good matches this month.

*Best of the Month:

- Match: Rencor Latino, Dr O'borman and Virus defeating Atlantico, Solar II and Olimpus.- The tecnicos were sort of overwhelmed here, but this match was pretty good from some cool moves and the impressive steamwork from the rudos, I still wonder how it is possible that the Mexican mags hype so much about 'los Brazos' or 'Dinamitas' teamwork, and yet, most of the CMLL undercards (and the Vipers and Vatos Locos) are doing some innovative stuff (or at least they try).
- Luchador: Rencor Latino, a couple of years ago, I didn't care about him, but now, he's been showing great work, some cool finishers and a great rudo persona, which puts him on the Virus/Ultimo Guerrero of rudos of choice as far as undercards go.
- Angle: Well, I'll say the Trios Champions run, it was refreshing seeing the team working together after becoming the champions, that way, title matchs are more factible, too bad that Wagner has to be out of the country many times (good for him)
- Team: Blue Panther, Dr Wagner jr, and Black Warrior
- Move: Rencor Latino's bodyslam into rock bottom!!! ENOOOOOOOOOOORMEEEEEE!!!!!

- Funniest Moment: In the match with Emilio Charles, Brazo de Plata and Olimpico vs Fuerza Guerrera, Villano III and Apolo Dantes, during the third fall, Super Porky went to the apron to deliver a plancha, Magadan said 'Porky! Poooooooooorky!!!', Villano III steped away, Porky went to the floor (ROTFL), Magadan continues: 'Porky y sus amigos' (like the WB cartoon), Morales remains silent for some moments, then he said 'Cual Porky y sus amigos, cual Porky!! Se QUITO MAGADAN, SE QUITO!!!' (he moved away), LMAO!!!

***December, 1998

* December.- I liked this month, I think it was pretty strong, mainly from CMLL, having the 'lWo' back in Mexico, and having some great matches from the CMLL six men tag team tourney, Black Warrior vs Felino, etc. AAA had also some good things, Jerry Estrada is back (Buts seems to be working only at Monterrey) and a match with Vipers vs Vatos Locos was a spotfest of colossal proportions!!!

*Best of the Month:

- Match:Vipers vs Vatos Locos- Almost tied with the 'Eliminatoria del grupo B para sacar finalistas para el campeonato de trios' with Silver King, Villanos, Casas, Panther, etc..
- Luchador: Dr Wagner- Carried an excellent team to take the CMLL trios championship!
- Angle: lWo goes to Mexico (too bad it wouldn't last).
- Team: Blue Panther, Dr Wagner and Black Warrior.

***November, 1998

* November.- WWF's Super Astros debuted on Univision, November 22, to counter this, WCW got some of their luchadors on CMLL, the rumors of this happening where there all over the recent months, but in November, they gained credibility. CMLL's flow was screwed by Negro getting suspended, that prevented him from joining Hijo del Santo to face Scorpio and Bestia in the CMLL tag tourney, then, the WCW deal almost destroyed the storyline (which they had been pushing for about 2 years).

*Best of the Month:

- Match:Zumbido, Ultimo Guerrero, Karloff Lagarde and Violencia vs Tony Rivera, Astro jr, Tajiri and El Oriental.- Cibernetico tag teams.
- Luchador: Black Warrior- He is getting a much deserved push, even defeating Felino in a title match.
- Angle: Pierroth jr assembles own team to fight los Dinamitas (later won't work, but good while it lasted)
- Move: Black Warrior reversing a corner crucifix powerbomb into a Frankensteiner on Felino.
- Team: Los Vatos Locos.
- Funniest Moment: The Huicho vs Tirantes using soccer teams shirts brawl.

****October, 1998

* October was a slow lucha month, nothing happened in AAA (that's usual) and CMLL kept pushing back Santo/Scorpio masks match, well, I guess this month was not that bad... at least there was the Halcon Negro-Olimpico's Mask Match and I got to attend to two live lucha shows... Halcon losing his mask was aired on November 1... anyway...

*Best of the Month:

- Match:I liked all matches with Halcon Negro vs Olimpico, mainly the one he teamed up with Ultimo Guerrero and Zumbido.
- Luchador: Halcon Negro, he lost his mask, but he gained some name value.
- Angle: Santo and Negro too injured to fight...--maybe was not an angle...?
- Move:Halcon Negro's looks like a DVD but ends like a powerbomb from the ttb...and Charlie Manson's killer tope...
- Team: Los Vatos Locos.
- Funniest Moment: The house show I went to on October 31 had too many fun moments to write here...

****September 1998

* September should be a big month for lucha libre, with EMLL's annyversaries cards and AAA's Veranos de Escandalo's, but this year wasn't that good, mainly from EMLL, who had a not so good Puerto Rico vs Mexico feud, AAA on the other hand, had a lot of media attention, Rossy Moreno, Xochitl Hamada and Miss Janeth showed in 'Hoy' and traded some slaps... Octagon and Abismo Negro, with their minis versions were in another 'Hoy' show.

*Best of the Month:

- Match: Mr Aguila losing his maks with Ultimo Guerrero.
- Luchador: Heavy Metal- Big angles around him against Vipers and Tirantes.
- Angle: Santo is tecnico again...
- Move: Abismo Negro's blow torch.
- Team: Los Vipers.
- Funniest Moment: Latin Lover believing that Maroņas is drunk and that Heavy Metal being chained to a bean is a joke.

September 6 recap, unavailable, I had just returned home from my vacations and waked up real late that day... --- Abismo took off Octagon's mask and used it himself to attack Pentagon, who thinking it was Octagon doing the blow torch, turned rudo again. Santo still rudo, but each week he ends helping or being helped by Negro.
