AAA year in review special.- Mex Dec/27/98 Gala Jan/04/99-- Highlights show with matches clips and interviews with most of the luchadores who worked in those matches.

---Rey de Reyes- From Toreo de 4 caminos.

* Sangre Chicana loses to Heavy Metal in a hair match.- Main event.
* Perro vs Cibernetico vs Octagon vs Latin Lover.- Rey de Reyes final.
* Abismo Negro and Pentagon vs Los Brennan.-Cage match.

This was the event that put AAA back on track, Los Brennan are the reporters of a popular hard-copy-like show, but this was waaaaay better than anything WCW can put Rodman or Leno into. AAA hyped this match since the last part of 97, and here, it ended in a big way, Abismo Negro became the ultimate rudo here.

---AAAmania.-From Chihuahua.

*Octagon, Octagoncito and Pentagon vs Abismo Negro, MiniAbismo Negro and Electroshock.-Relevos AAA
*Mosco De La Merced and Fuerza Guerrera vs Perro and Perrito.- For the National Tag Title.
*Heavy Metal vs KickBoxer-Cage Match, with Tropicasas and Tirantes hair on the line.

---Verano de Escandalo--From Ciudad Madero.-

*Abismo Negro and KickBoxer(w/Tirantes) vs Heavy Metal and Blue Demon(w/Tropicasas).-Cage match, loser team's second becomes slave of the other for a week. Then they showed the punishments Tirantes had to go thru.

They showed their 3 main events from the year, they missed the Guerra de Titanes show, which should make 4 'supercards' per year for AAA, they could go to 6 if they include and improve Noche del Terror and Zona de Guerra.

CMLL.- First non-Arena Mexico card, aired Mex Dec/27/98, Gala, Jan/02/99.-

***Hector Garza, Negro Casas and Lizmark vs Satanico, Scorpio jr and Mascara Aņo 2000.-Hector gets to the ring with the same outfit Zorro once used, now I get it: Zorro, Garza, Latin and Tarzan Boy were trained by the same guy in Monterrey.

1.-Long rudo brawling.2.-Short tecnico brawling, then, Scorpio does a abdominal stretch+powerbomb on Negro, on the second try, Negro reverses and later, puts Scorpio into an armbar, Garza hits plancha over Satanico and puts into a... crucifix-quebradora? Something like that.

3.-At last, the matchups are stablished: Satanico/Garza, Lizmark/Mascara and Negro/Scorpio. Eventually, moderate brawling goes on again, but WWF/WCW join forces to clear the ring, Garza does a side plancha on Satanico, Negro pus Scorpio into an abdominal stretch hold, Mascara goes for the save but Lizmark connects his 'patadas en cascada' (missile dropkicks) on Mascara, but Aņo 2000 low kicks Lizmark, and goes unseen by the referees and the rudos got the fall.

***Dr O'borman, Arakangel and Rencor Latino vs Angel Azteca, Oriental and Super Kendo.- First look at Oriental during the time I'vve been doing the recaps (he was in a Cybernetico tag match, but he lasted too little there), this guy is amazing, his size is to small to be up there with Black Warrior or Mr Niebla, but he is great, lots of high flying spots here, on the other side, there is Rencor Latino, a very solid Ultimo Guerrero-like rudo, but I think he has more aerial moves in his arsenal.

1/2.-After a lengthy segment of matwork, the rythm picks up, Kendo hits a 'quebradora con giro' and pins Oborman, Oriental pins Arkangel with a short rana, and Angel Azteca delivers a second rope springboard reverse tope on Rencor.Later, Kendo shows his Parkesque stuff, and at last, rencor faces Oriental, who delivers a great spinning everywhere armdrag that sends Rencor out of the ring, he follows that with a baseball slide, connecting into a tijeras (headsicsors) moves on Rencor. The rudos stage the comeback, and began triple teaming on the tecnicos, not a full-out brawl, but team moves that allowed them to take the fall.

3.- The rudos kept the match under control and kicked on brawling-oriented mode, but still delivering some team moves, Dr Oborman puts Angel on 'la cavernaria' while his mates kick Angel relentlessly, the remaining tecnicos react and they turn the brawl over, Angel Azteca tries another reverse tope, but Rencor steps away and makes him submit to the Texas Coverleaf, Arkangel powerbombs Oriental while Oborman takes Kendo with a somersault bodyblock from the apron to the floor.

Coments.-

***Villano III, Zumbido and Rey Bucanero vs Ringo Mendoza, Mr Hoy (debut) and Olimpico.-

1.-Rey Bucanero 'tests' the rookie Hoy with some matwork, then, Zumbido enters to wrestle Ringo, Zumbido climbs to the ttb but gets butt-drop kicked out of the ring, so that Ringo can tease a tope...next is Olimpico outmanuvering Villano, he even hits his long springboard plancha... inside the ring. Zumbido is on fire and punishes Olimpico, highlight include his spinning elbow drop, but Hoy is ready to catch him into a 'quebradora con giro' and force him to quit with a half crab, while Ringo uses 'La Mezcaleņa' on Bucanero.

2.-After showing himself OK in matwork, now is time for Mr Hoy to do his lucha stuff, he does a Nieblistic flip-upsidedown-to-the- ropes-bounce-back-on-his-feet and somersault back again move, then a tijeras (headsicsors) from the second ropes on Zumbido, Villano and Rey B are not happy with this and the brawl is unchained, after a while, Zumbido takes Ringo near the conerpost, he seems ready for the moonsault, but Villano delivers a senton instead and rudos are awarded the second fall.

3.-The rudos have the momentum on their side as they continue using thier overwhelming tactics, Olimpico stops the brawling by puching Zumbido and Bucanero out of the apron while battling Villano, so the one on one secuences are re-established, but this last shortly, as Rey Bucanero reverses a Mr Hoy's huracanrana into a powerbomb, actually, he did the reversal different from normal, instead of droping Hoy while he was up, he did not sold the move, Hoy's head was near the mat, and then Bucanero lifted up Hoy again to deliver the powerbomb, Rey goes for the pin, Hoy kicks out, only to get powerbombed again, he kicks out at 2 again, then Hoy puts Bucanero into 'la Universal' to put Rey B out of comission. But the rudos take the match after Villano fouls Olimpico with a reverse atomic chair, which goes unseen by the referees.

***Blue Panther, Dr Wagner and Black Warrior vs Salomon Grondy, Felino and Mr Niebla.-Now, los rudos are back after the previous week taking the proxy-tecnicos role in the title match, Panther/Wagner/Fuerza should be the best 'walk out tease' in Lucha, and here they got close to working the crowd that way, in fact, it took a long time for the match to start.

1.- First Niebla then Felino get to work against ther natural foes (Wagner and Warrior) but then, Salomon gets his christmas present as he takes care of all 3 rudos by himself using his fat guy stuff, at the end, the tecnicos blow the ending secuence: Wagner and Panther are down on the mat, Felino goes for plancha, but it seems he just falls instead of jumping there, still, Warrior does the senton, and Felino moves, so all 3 rudos are set to be getting the FAT PLANCHA, I don't know if Niebla forgets or something but he jumps from the mat over the 3 rudos, so Grundy hesitates and tries to land on his feet, Niebla and Wagner move away and Salomon falls on Wagner and Panther and are pinned... That's what you get from booking a guy like grundy with these guys.

2.-You know this has to be the rudos fall, as Warrior whips Felino to 'la esquina del dolor' where he is introduced to Wagners boot, 'nice to meet you too, Felino', Panther does the bodypress on Felino and drops him on Warrior's knee. Grundy enters the ring, only to get punched and slaped wildly and then corner splashed by all 3 'Rudos Laguneros', thankfully, this puts Salomon out of the fall as Panther keeps him in the corner, and ties Grundy's shoelace on the post, soon, Wagner puts Niebla in the 'swastica' (sp?) and Warrior delivers the Frankensteiner on Felino, something goes wrong, as Warrior falls on his head, but aparently, no damage was done and he gets the pin.

3.- Grundy takes off his shoe to start the comeback as he 'shoe-shot' Panther, but it was Grundy, not Sullivan, so the shoe has little effect, Wagner and Niebla are facing each other now, and they go back and forth, trading pin attempts, with timely saves by their partners, both end out of the ring, so Grundy has the chance againt to use his fat guy thing, Felino uses a headsicsors flip to send Warrior to the floor, and then Felino gets kicked out by Blue Panther, who gets 'gut-shoted' out as well, Grundy teases a tope ("NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO") but goes for a.... Vertical Plancha? That takes all those guys out. Wagner and Niebla reenter and el tecnico gets the upset win. He and Wagner agree to go for the title and the masks later...

Grundy in a match with solid workers is not the best way to book a match, but this time, Mr Niebla was erratic, during the near-pin-trading secuece with Wagner, the rudo almost had to place Niebla over. Still, not a disaster, as with all the card, this match had good wrestling, but little highspots. On the other hand, it was good to see the new Trios Champs staying as a team.

CMLL had a strong effort here, they used two matches with some of their top names, and the undercard matches were good, too few spots for the crazy-aerial-stuff fans, but I liked the show, both shows were OK, AAA show was very funny (if you speak Spanish).
