IWRG from Arena Naucalpan taped Feb. 28!!!!!!!!

*** Rey Pantera and Mochizuky vs Zonick and Volador jr.- Rey Pantera, Zonick and Voladorcito have been here (the recaps) before, new is Mochizuky, who has the word 'Mochi' on his pants, so I'll call him that way.

2.- Zonick works over Rey Pantera with some armdrags and seems to have the fall under control, but then Mochizuky overwhelms Volador jr, who can't do anything at all, rudos start outnumbering their foes and take the fall.

3.- Mochi starts working on Zonick's left leg, Rey Pantera supports him and puts Zonick into double armbar while Mochi had a leglock, Voladorcito enters to break the hold, Zonick reacts and attacks Rey P, while Volador hits a frog splash on Mochi, but the Japanese rudo kicks out at 2, Pantera and Zonick trade moves, Rey P connects a heel kick, and then puts Zonick into 'la de a caballo', but Volador Jr makes the save, Zonick leaves the ring, while Volador hits an inside second rope quebrada. Mochizuky enters to make the save and chaos erupts as both teams stay on action from here on, Rudos are commanding the fall by using their size, they send the tecnicos out of the ring, and then slam them into each other while they're on the apron, tecnicos react and do double sunset flips to get 2 counts, but the match goes for the rudos after Rey Pantera pins Zonick with a rana, while Volador is defeated by a Northern Lights suplex. 18' 30''

Considering this is the opener, this was a good match, sure, Mochizuky maybe doesn't know Spanish, but he worked OK as a team with Rey Pantera, who has a good rudo personality, maybe old fashioned, but good. I've been told (by David Cantu) that Volador jr is pretty young (about 16 years), so he has a long way to go, but he is doing good.

*** Sagrado and Slayer vs Mercurio and Arai.- Well, Slayer is here again, I'll consider this his first match as far as this reports are concerned, as he did almost nothing last week's show, should Slayer be a name for a rudo?

1.-Slayer and Arai do some matwork, they show an interview with Mercurio, then return to the match with Slayer and Arai still trading moves, then Sagrado and Mercurio also get to show their ground stuff, the pace picks up as Arai starts using kicks, but the tecnicos counter that with some armdrags and flying headsicsors, the end comes after Mercurio misses a corner splash on Sagrado, and is pined with 'La Casita', while Slayer hits a side plancha to put Arai out. 7'30''

2.- -Interview with Slayer- Slayer and Mercurio start at a faster rhythm, Slayer does a couple of armdrags, and Mercurio ends out of the ring, then, Slayer pushes down Arai from the apron who goes on to do a placha on Mercurio!! The rudos react by sneak attacking Sagrado, they work over him for a while, then Slayer enters, but one of the referees help the rudos to keep him under control, the rudos keep outnumbering a single tecnico for some time, until Sagrado submits to a half crab, and Slayer is pinned after a side plancha by Arai. 5'05''

3.- Things don't change that much in the third fall, as the rudos still are outnumbering and sneak attacking the tecnicos, who, react after Arai and Mercurio try to make Slayer quit with a kind of double lion tamer, but Sagrado manages to return to the ring and break the hold, both teams start trading pin attempts, until Mercurio manages to reverse a huracanrana by Sagrado and get the 3 count, shortly after that, Arai does a ttb falling-tree-headbutt on Slayer and pins him as the rudos los rudos los ruuuuuuudos won the match.

Good match, as in the previous show, this had lots of brawl, but complemented with other spots. Mercurio looked better than last week, and Arai is a solid rudo, Slayer now had the chance to show his skills, and he delivered, I think he would be a more credible (fake) Mr. Niebla than the one IWRG is using right now.

*** Dr Cerebro, Punch Power and Star Boy vs Micke Segura, Ultimo Vampiro and Kato Kung Lee jr.- Where's Interceptor? He had just turned rudo and targeted Ultimo Vampiro, but he is not here now... still, Kato jr and Punch Power have been feuding for a while, with the rudo getting the better of it. Of course, Dr Cerebro and Micke Segura are not compadres, as Cerebro unmasked 'Oro jr' last year.

1.- As soon as the tecnicos are out, they're jumped on by the rudos, they show another interview, this one with Kato jr, who says he want to step out of his dad's shadow. Return to the match, Punch Power is beating Kato jr on the Corona (calidad de exportacion) beer supply area, the other rudos brawl as well, Punch takes Kato jr to the ring again and there is some blood on Kato's white mask, Punch Power takes Kato jr down again and Star Boy pins Micke Segura after a ttb plancha, Punch Power does a somersault senton on Kato and puts him out, while Ultimo Vampiro is put with his arms stuck on the top rope, while Dr Cerebro holds his legs, Starboy climbs to the ttb and does a leg drop which makes UV flip out of the ring and made me say 'ouch'. 6' 00''

2.- The rudo brawl goes on for a brief time, as Segura stages the comeback after Dr Cerebro nails Star Boy with a kick when Segura moved away from a hold. The tecnicos do some powerbombs, quebradoras con giro, etc., and clear the ring, leaving only Punch Power there, so that the now red masked Kato jr can beat him a while, and starts ripping open Power's mask, the end comes as Segura hits missile kicks on Star Boy, and Ultimo Vampiro powerbombs and pins Dr Cerebro, Micke does (Rencor Latino-like) a bodyslam into a rock bottom move to put Star Boy out. Kato jr keeps beating Punch Power in the ring area. 3'30''

3.- Interview with Punch Power- Punch Power takes Kato jr's mask off, he has some blood in his face now, but I don't know if it is his, or Kato's, the rudos should start dominating the tecnicos, as they're now 3 on 2, but they go into the 1 on 1 work, Vampiro and Segura do some good work, with Micke Segura delivering a 720º flying headsicsors sending Dr Cerebro out of the ring, then, Micke, baseball slides and connects another flying scissors which send Cerebro flying away and hitting Scorpio Sr!!! Kato jr returns with a new mask and starts beating Punch Power, the tecnicos control the match now, Ultimo Vampiro uses a 'pescado' plancha to nail Dr Cerebro out of the ring, Star Boy hits a wild (semi-screwed) tornillo plancha or something on Vampiro, then Micke Segura comes with a running tope suicida which makes him and Dr Cerebro go over the barrier!! (Ouch, ouch, and ouch). Power is running to continue the train wreck sequence, but Kato gets him, the tecnico then goes of a huracanrana, but Punch Power reverses and gets the pin and the match at 16' 04''

Postmatch, Power wants a title match, and Kato a masks match, they have the contract there in the ring, so Punch signs it, and Kato jr informs him that he signed the mask vs mask deal!!! Masks match next week!!! They brawl for a while. I guess next week they'll have a bloody match, it is weird, Power has dominated the feud, so he should have won Kato's title before dropping the mask, could it be that we'll know who Kato jr is?

*** Mega, Halcon Dorado jr and Mr Niebla vs Shiima Nobunaga, Fireman and Bombero Infernal.- First try for Fireman, who should be Bombero (means Fireman or Firefighter) Infernal's partner. They took Shiima off the main event, Super Luchas and Box Y Lucha had printed him in the main event, there was also a title match with Punch Power and Kato jr. They didn't said why they changed the card.

1.- Ultra hot start, Bombero arrives using his mask, and the rudos use a fireman's hose (what's the name of that thing?) to beat the tecnicos, they cut into a promo for next week's mask match with Kato and Punch Power being interviewed. They return to the match as Halcon Dorado jr is being choked with the hose, Scorpio gets there to ask Bombero Infernal to take his mask off, Scorpio, Mega and Halcon struggle with Bombero for a while but the rudo manages to keep it, I wonder if this was done as a way to show interest in the Rey (un)Mysterio Jr's situation... Rudos keep brawling, Scorpio finally takes Bombero's mask off, rudos win the first fall after using typical rudo tactics. 6'12''

2.- Things cool down a little, but with the rudos still being a little better, Mega has some hair out from an opening on his mask, I guess Shiima did that to him... Halcon Dorado ducks a Bombero's elbowsmash and this is enough to ignite a tecnico brawling, as the three of them seek for the rudos and attack them for a short time, they show that Shiima has a small chain again... the end of this fall comes with Mega chasing Nobunaga around the ring, while Halcon gets the submission from Fireman with a strange hold, and Mr (Fake) Niebla puts Bombero into the scorpion death lock. 5'20''

3.- The three tecnicos take turns at dominating all the rudos with the semi-comedic 'make the rudos do mistakes and look silly' spots. Then Mega and Shiima face off, Mega bodyslmas Shiima, and tries a ttb tornillo plancha, but Shiima rolls away, now, he bodyslams Mega and goes for an inside the ring quebrada, but Mega also moves away and avoids the splash. Everyone enters the ring and they go on for a while, Bombero and Fireman hang Niebla and Halcon at different corners, and keep beating them, Shiima takes Mega to the ttb and goes for a frankensteiner, but Mega reverses into a powerbomb to take the match at 17'02''.

I guess Bombero Infernal really needed the money to drop the mask (I think he lost it to Pantera a year or so ago), as he looks a lot better using it. He and Fireman looked cool with those outfits. Wonder if they'll have Mega and Shiima to feud, Mega is receiving a consistent push, and maybe a feud with Shiima might end up in a good series of matches.

*** Super Crazzy, Taru and Maniac Cop vs Mascara Sagrada (original), Super Parka and Kato Kung Lee.- Super Crazzy is back at a IWRG show after many months, he is not using his Hysteria/Mosco outfit anymore, but his black/red flames+RazaAzteca outfit he uses at ECW, the commentators even said that he was working in Philadelphia. In an interview, he said he would only work that week, as he had to go back to the USA.

1.- Punches, kicks, slaps, chops, kicks, slaps, etc., the rudos are on control, until Mascara Sagrada dodges a slap from Super Crazzy who hits Maniac Cop instead, so the tecnicos rally back with some weak tecnico offense (mainly quebradoras con giro), things cool down a little and the tecnicos take the fall after Super Parka reverses a Super Crazzy frankensteiner into a powerbomb and Kato Kung Lee makes Taru submit.

2.- The tecnicos keep having the match going their way, Super Parka and Crazzy do some comedy spots, Maniac do some more (but those spots, including Super Parka's weren't that funny this time), Super Crazzy's only highspots were a high 'salida de bandera' , a face-first dive into the apron, and kicking out of a 'segadora' (kick to the back of opponent's legs) by springboarding on the third rope and flipping to his feet. Maniac Cop pinned Kato Kung Lee with a little help from the ropes as the match went 1-1.

3.- Now is the rudos who keep the flow of the match, Taru and Kato Kung start trading choke attempts for most of the fall, while the other luchadors work a little, at the end, Taru makes Kato Kung Lee submit to a 'la cavernaria'. The match was short and lasted about 14 minutes.

Somewhat of a disappointing match, but, I understand that having weak main events is common when the main eventers are not in their prime. Well, better luck next time.

The last match was not bad, but maybe I had higher expectations, but overall, this was the best show from IWRG (and maybe from Mexican TV in 1999 so far) I've seen, sure, I've only seen 3 of their shows. So, now, for the next week (unless they change the card again) :

-- Punch Power vs Kato jr-- Mask vs Mask!!!
-- Kato Kung Lee vs Taru -- For some martial arts title which I didn't know it existed.
-- Shiima Nobunaga (champ) vs Mega -- IWRG intercontinental welter title.--Three singles matches!
-- Dragon Kid, Mickey (Segura?) and Slayer vs Star Boy, Judo Suwa and Dr Cerebro.
-- Zonick and Horiguchi vs Rockambole and Arai.
