My personal best caught pike caught on
Loch Luichart on the 23rd of October 2001 and weighed in at 20 lb using a
small smelt on free lined deadbaiting. The venture started as we left
Balintore at 6am still dark and raining arrived at the Loch, got down to
the bay we usually fish but hardly any water in it was decided to walk
around the bay to a deep channel that enters into Loch Luichart itself
very boggy hard going on the legs with sinking. I got most the way around
but decided to have a rest Gary and Ian carried on and was already set-up
and bait into the water, |

Personal Best Pike Of
20lb. |
I got there erected my shelter and got a cup of
tea on the go before I start to fish Gary say's fish just swirled the
surface, so that sprung me into action both baits into the
water and not even 5 minutes in and into a runGary is also into a run as well we both landed our
fish and they weighed in at 5 lb 4 oz and returned safely to fight
another day. An hour passes and Gary is into another run it heads
straight to shallower water where there's lots of weed and gets
caught up in it he manages to get it released from the weed but
there's loads of weed around the line gets it to the bank and I get
a hold of the pike and pulled it out on to the bank and weighed in
at 11 lb 8 oz and returned. Now I hear my bite alarm start to
bleep slowly its another run for me I pick the rod up and strike the pike
is hooked feels a good one just staying deep all the time lots of runs
from it the reel sounding so sweet with the drag set just pulling the line
out with every run it makes after 15 minutes |

still no sign of the pike
then up to the surface it pops it's a good fish known it's bigger than my
personal best after another 6 surging deep runs I finally get it close to
the bank and Gary reaches out grabs it by the gill plate and lifts it out
of the water long fish it is 43" and 20" girth to it and weighed
in at 20 lb's my previous record smashed. Well that was me a very happy
man that day and it made the perfect fishing year for me and I hope there
is plenty of more fish like that still to come hopefully. |
