Recap for Year 05, Century of the Confused Turtle

In the Spring Prime of this year, the three perennial foes were at it again. Centring round the Ephebe and Great Nef area, Klatch attacked the Muntabians ensconced in Ephebe but were beaten back with a combination Muntab/Circle Cities force, whilst that attack caused the Muntabian attack on the Great Nef (from Vanglemesh) to fail utterly. In a not unexpected move, the Theocrat ordered his Rehigreed fleet into the Sumtri Sea yet again, but was foiled this time by a parallel Klatchian fleet moving into the same patch of water. With his trademark convoy, Brother Jhake moved another army into the Sto Plains. In an odd dance, the Muntab army in Betrek supported their Circle Cities brethen in Omnia, but the fellow Muntabians in Ushistan tried to move into Betrek. Sharp words between the two commanders ensued, with the Ushistan legion hastily returning to their original camp. The Theocrat was silent on this matter. A far-ranging army of the Cenobriach's moved into the Vieux Plain, perhaps exploring for a river that actually moved under its own power.

The Genuans and the Barbarians argued over the Vortex Plains this season, with the barbarians winning due to superior numbers -- and a lack of attack from nearby Agatean forces. However, the Duc's people did have a decisive win in the Last Continent, destroying a fleet of Brother Ydris' in Purdeighsland. All of his soldiers and marines played hooky and busied themselves learning the digeridoo.

Agatean forces had a wonderful season, not counting one failure in The Big Bight, where the XXXX fleet patrolling there threw their flutes overboard and scrambled to repel boarders. The Emperor had an army convoyed from his Sum Dim base to Cutangelsk, with support from fellow Agateans in Oolskunrahod. Ogg clansmen made a bid for their homeland in Chimera, and were able to take it with no fighting, much to the disappointment of our Shawn.

However, that worthy got his wish in Autumn Secundus, when a fleet of Klatch's, done with convoying duty, attacked the shores of Chimera and were beaten back with bells and sticks (the towelheads had interrupted a celebratory Morris Dance). Barbarians and Klatchians argued over the abandoned Ogg fort in Lancre, with the Klatchians winning in a closely contested football game, two to one. In another part of the former Ogg homeland, Agatean ninja snuck into Llamedos, quietly taking it over from the Hublanders. The barbarians had other troubles closer to home, with Genuans and more Agateans all making bids for various parts of the Steppes. Genuan swamplanders made barbarians scatter out of the Vortex Plains with trained crocodiles, which disrupted one leg of a three-way support system. That loss of support caused the Agateans running in from Cutangelsk to take over the Hubland Steppes (making the barbarians all decide to chuck their weapons and turn to farming instead), cutting another leg; unfortunately the other half of the pincer from the Hubwards Turnwise Ocean was not able to dislocate the Hub fleet in Ingenting, although that attack cut the last leg, allowing the Genuan forces to take the Vortex Plains. All pleasingly circular, appropriately enough.

Genua soldiers also took Borogravia from the Cenobriach, which, combined with the Klatchian takeover of the holy land of Omnia, removed all visible means of support from Circle Cities people. However, it seemed that the Cenobriach was expecting this, and he reappeared in Genua, declaring the Diamond City for himself.

Despite success in Omnia, Brother Jhake still failed to take Ephebe. It appears he is as determined to take the philosophers' land as Muntab is to keep it. He did allow the Theocrat to make his customary move into the Sumtri Sea this time, moving his fleet to the Gulf of Tezuma instead. To replace that fleet, another moved in from the Circumfence Sea.

After the dust settled, it turned out that the Agatean Empire was able to raise an army in each fort, which was cause for much rejoicing amongst alchemists who could only barely keep up with orders for fireworks. The Cenobriach found himself with only the army he took with him into exile in Genua, whilst our Shawn took a headcount and discovered that all the myriad branches of the family had sought refuge at his house. Due to the failure of his menage a trois, Barbarian Bren found he had to let the fleet in Ingenting sink. With an eye toward the government-in-exile of the Circle Cities roosting in his capital, the Duc recruited two armies. Muntab declared itself satisfied with itself, and XXXX found that the fleet in The Big Bight, when the flutes were thrown overboard, had lost its way out of the Dreamtime and was lost.
