Remington Model 14 slide action Rifle

32 Remington

Ever since I bought my Remington Model 8 I've had a deep curiosity about the other cartridges that Remington introduced as contemporaries of its round. .25, .30, 32 Remington and how they were intended to be rivals of rimmed Winchester rounds.

The magazine is loaded from the bottom. The caliber is noted on the barrel (see below) but curiously, also has the case head from a round (with caliber on the headstamp) mounted in a hole on the reciever.

This is also a nifty take-down rifle. A single screw (below) removed allows easy detachment of the buttstock and rear reciever, making this an easy little rifle to transport in small cases.

I'm looking for tips on the best way to fix this. I've got the missing top chip intact and it is a perfect fit onto the hole. The red box shows a split going from the top of the box to the bottom. The yellow box shows a split along the grain from front to back.

I have no idea how to remove the entire butt for repair work.

Here is another view of the same thing.
