"I did allow the record (Nevermind) to be produced cleaner and more commercial than I wanted it to be. I don't know what the reasoning for that was, besides, just being dead tried of hearing the same songs. We'd try re-mixing it three times and we rang this mixologist to do it, by that point I was so tired of hearing the songs, I said 'go ahead, do whatever you want'." -Kurt D. Cobain

Throughout this entire homepage, there will be some questions and statements that need to be rationalized and answered about Nirvana...

"I was trying to write the ultimate pop song (Teen Spirit). I was basically trying to rip-off The Pixies. I have to admit it." -Kurt D. Cobian
"Eighties," well, we all know that story, right? Kurt Cobain stole the guitar line for "Come As You Are." Granted, the Killers' original number isn't anywhere near as sad and lovely as Nirvarna's, but a nicked riff is a nicked riff. Killing Joke sued and won; apparently they only had to prove that Nirvana had heard of Killing Joke to prove their case, and that was an easy thing to prove as Mr. Cobain had sent the band a Christmas card a few years earlier. Again, when I first heard about this case, I thought to myself, "Jeez, what a bunch of assholes," but now that I know more about the band, I can only wonder how the hell Kurt was planning to get away with ripping off one of the most famous riffs by one of the most psychically disturbed groups ever formed.

Nirvana's then-manager Danny Goldberg later copped to the similarity between the two songs. In the 2000 book, Eyewitness Nirvana: The Day-By-Day Chronicle, Goldberg said, "We met to discuss what [Nevermind's] second single would be. We couldn't decide between 'Come as You Are' and 'In Bloom.' Kurt was nervous about 'Come as You Are' because it was too similar to a Killing Joke song ['Eighties'], but we all thought it was still the better song to go with. And, he was right, Killing Joke later did complain about it."

Boston has one of the top selling albums of all time, and according to Spin: May 2004 "Kurt Cobain stole the riff for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from "More Than a Feeling". Though the songs are similar it is hard to call the riff stolen from "More Than a Feeling". However, it is easy though to call the riff for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to be stolen from Blue Oyster Cult's "Godzilla".
Yes, as proved above, Kurt Cobain was indeed a plagiarist. To plagiarize once is bad enough as that is lower that low on anybodies musical scale - if you respect and care about music, however Kurt plagiarized at least 3 times!!!!!!! Totally inexcuseable proving further just how Nirvana used the can on music.
Here are 6 soundbites which prove that Kurt plagiarized at least 3 times. Please allow a minute or two for the page to load as the soundbites may take time to load on your computer.

Nirvana Hate Page (and rightly so) Upon clicking the plagiarist page PLEASE ALLOW A BRIEF MINUTE OR TWO FOR THE PAGE TO DOWNLOAD AS THERE ARE SOME SOUNDBITES which IRREFUTABLY proves that Kurt and Nirvana were nothing more that scum of the earth simpleton commercial plagiarists (among many other things)!!!!! Now, I DARE you to listen for yourself!!!! And if you think that's fine to plagiarize and that it is fine to be talentless and commercial as well as unoriginal and completely without passion as Nirvana CLEARLY were among many other things - it only means that you do not respect nor care about music. In which case, this page is not for you. Many have tried to invent excuses over the years as to why Nirvana were a good or even great band. All excuses have worn thin so that there is no solid soil to stand on. I do invite you to refute anything on this page, I bet you that you can't. By the way, a nice day, and please IF you are going to do your barking and whining and sniveling and boo hoo hooing, please do it elsewhere as this page is dedicated to the music enthusiast as well as to the restoration of music as an art form in which Nirvana spat on and took a GIANT dump on. And to spit and take a dump on music the way Nirvana did - to any music lover or enthusiast in unacceptable on all levels. |
In Kurt Cobain's Words... "What the hell am I trying to say?" Taken from the so called Nirvana song "On a Plain" "Almost all my lyrics have been cut-ups pieces of poetry and stuff. And the pieces of poetry are taken from poems that usually don't have meaning in the first place." "At the time I was writing those songs, I really didn't know what I was trying to say. There's no point in my even trying to analyse or explain it." Kurt trying ever so desperately to explain the songs on Nevermind. "When I write a song, the lyrics are the least important thing. I can go through two or three subjects in a song, and the theme can mean absolutely nothing at all." "I very rarely write about one theme or one subject. I end up getting bored with that theme and write something else half way through the rest of the song, and finish the song with a different idea." "For the most part, I write songs from pieces of poetry thrown together. When I write poetry it's not usually thematic at all. I have plenty of notebooks, and when it comes time to write lyrics, I just steal from my poems." Many think that Kurt stated these things and did not mean to say them and intead said these things above to get the media and demi-god worshiping fans off his back. Some of these quotes were stated before Kurt got famous so obviously that doesn't work. Some were stated after Kurt got famous. For what it is worth I concur that he didn't mean to say some of the quotes. However, think about this - try putting yourself in Kurt's shoes. You get famous and do everything in your power to get the media and fans off of your back by attempting to say that your lyrics and poems are "meaningless". Yet you the media and fans continue to worship and idolize Kurt. How would you feel if you were Kurt? It's simple. You'd feel like killing yourself. Very few survive the wrath of fame. Kurt was no exception. |
