Day 15
Wednesday December 31, 2014
We started off this morning with a quick in room breakfast and then finished packing our things. Originally I had booked us for a mid afternoon flight but the effing airline discontinued that flight and put us on an early one instead so we didn't have as much time as we usually do. I hate early flights home because it ruins my last night in town.
I finished packing up our things, checked us out and we were off to the airport. The first order of business was to gas up the rental car and then it was over to the garage to return it. Things here went well and they were quick. I told the agent that the car was a piece of crap, had a shimmy and low tire pressure. He wrote everything on the windshield so hopefully they either fix it or get rid of it. We both boarded the shuttle and and were on our way to the terminal.
The flight home is on United Airlines and was booked using FF miles that have been in my account for a long time. Two years ago I signed up for their credit card and it came with 50,000 miles and waived the annual fee for the first year. Of course I canceled the $95 a year card after my first year. This flight is also taking us to Newark. We checked in and paid the rip off fee to check our suitcase. Everything went well here and we were off to security.
Security was the typical crap but we made our way through in a fair amount of time and then headed to our gate.
We had plenty of time before the flight so I grabbed us a sandwich at Port of Subs for the flight.
We got to board early because of Dee's wheelchair and we were in row 30 so Dee needed plenty of time to get back that far.
This is flight #1271 scheduled to depart at 10:54am and arrive in Newark at 6:50pm for a total of 4 hours and 56 minutes. Before we left an announcement was made that it would actually take less.
We left on time and the flight was pretty smooth sailing. I slept through a good portion of the flight and Dee said she did too.
We landed in Newark about 30 minutes early. We had to wait in our seats for most of the other people to get off the plane so Dee wouldn't get slammed into and to give them enough time to get the wheelchair to the jet way. From here we were off to the baggage claim area. The wait for the bag was a bit long but finally came out. As I was walking down the carousel I saw a guy pick up my suitcase. He realized it wasn't his and tried to fling it back on the belt but it fell to the floor and he left it. I picked it up and thanks him for throwing it on the floor instead of putting it back. He gave me a fake “I'm sorry” and my response was “Sure you are. You're also an asshole. Had I not been there to see it flop to the floor I would have been waiting forever wondering where my bag was. I had a similar situation in the past where someone removed my suitcase from the belt and an hour later it was found laying next to a conveyor. Once I grabbed the bag and told the guy he was an asshole we were on our way.
The next stop was to the tram to take us to the rental car area. I rented a car from Avis one way to the local airport. I used a code through work and got a one way rate of $51. This isn't a terrible rate for a one way but it sickens me that I just had a car for $15 more in Vegas and that was for a full week!
When we got to Avis my name was up on the board and our car was in spot 251. They assigned us an Kia Sorento with only 6000 miles on it. This car was in like new condition condition. I gave it a once over and we were on our way.
We stopped on the way home to get something to eat at Dunkin' Donuts. Believe it or not these jack asses didn't have any donuts left so I got Dee a stale muffin and I did without.
After a good meal we made the rest of the drive home and pulled into driveway at about 9:00pm and the Christmas/Birthday trip was officially over.
