Day 9
Thursday December 25, 2014
Typically over the years I haven't done well gambling on my birthday. Only a few times was I ever actually a winner although one Christmas night I did hit a $1 royal for $4,000 at Fiesta Henderson. I'm hoping today would be similar to that day a number of years ago.
We started out with breakfast and did Cafe Aquarius. I had some pecan crusted French toast with a side of corned beef hash and it was excellent. I will get it again in the future. Dee had The gambler's breakfast with pancakes, sausage and eggs. Everything was good here and the service was good too. It was a good thing we got up when we did because as we were leaving the buffet line was out to the casino and the cafe line was quite long too.
Now it was time for some video poker and we hit the 3/5/10 plays again. Dee was up and down and I was hovering when on a 2 card hold I landed a royal on line 5. Later on I was dealt a flush with 4 to a royal. I dropped the odd card and exactly 26 minutes after my royal, I scored my second one of the day. Dee lost for her session and we were going to go out for a walk so I switched over to DDB in sort of a hail Mary attempt. It was my day for sure when I got dealt quad tens for another $625 for one of the best quarter sessions of video poker I've ever had.
We took a walk over to the Riverside and browsed the Watchman store. Dee saw a butterfly hair band she liked so we got the for her and walked back over to the Aquarius and took a short break up in the room.
When we returned to the casino we played some penny slots. We got over an hour of action on various games for just $10 so again pretty good bang for the buck.
For dinner we had a reservation at the Vineyard, the upscale Italian restaurant at the Aquarius. We started off with the zucchini appetizer. I ordered the chicken parmesan and that came with minestrone soup. Dee had the fettuccine alfredo and salad. I got free dessert for my birthday which was a very good black forest cake. Dee ordered pecan pie that was part of the dinner specials for the night and they actually gave it to her so we both had free dessert.
We hit the 3/5/10 plays again after dinner. I was instantly down $200 with very little action before things turned around. Dee popped a couple of sets of aces and a couple of straight flushes. During my comeback I hit a few sets of aces myself and then Dee got dealt quad eights on ten play. We continued to pound away until I realized we were up over $1000 between us without hitting a royal and cashed out.
I had a ton of points in my account so I went to the booth and redeemed enough to get $500 in free play and then took a shot at some $1 8/5 bonus. My hope was to hit a few quads and really make an already great day even better. I did get an inordinate amount of full houses but never hit a quad. After running about $2500 through the machine I still had $450 left so cashed out.
It was a decent birthday and it was almost over as we were beat and it was off to bed for both of us.
Total win/loss for the day $3600
Total Comps for the day $613
