Day 11 Thursday July 24, 2003

I got up and motivated today and packed my things up for today’s move to Fiesta Henderson. This will be the last move of the trip before heading back home to NY. It seems like yesterday I was checking into the Rio for my tournament and here it is time to check into the last hotel of this trip. Hopefully these last few days will turn out to be better than the first 10 because so far this trip hasn’t been all that great.

Just as I was about to check out of the Flamingo I looked out the window and saw there was a big storm passing by. It got really windy and then the rain came. After I watched this for a while I headed out. This turned out to be a mistake, as people don’t know how to drive here in the desert when it rains. It took me over an hour to get up to Henderson because people were driving 15 miles per hour the whole way there.

I finally got to Henderson and the first stop was the laundromat up the road from the Fiesta to drop off my dirty clothes. From there it was on to the Fiesta to check in for the next 4 nights. I was given room 4122. This room had a terrific view of a wall and the wind was tearing through the alley making a loud whistle. This won’t do so I went back down to registration and was moved to room 7114. This room has a view of the strip.

After getting settled in for the last time of the trip I went down to the casino and started off by playing the FPDW slant tops. This turned out to be a great play for me today because on about the 10th hand I hit quad deuces for $250. I played or about the next hour cashing out ahead $150. I would have played a little longer but there were 2 old bags there playing and the one next to me was chain smoking and holding her cigarette almost in my face. No more than 3 minutes would go by and she’d light up again. If this weren’t bad enough she was new to VP and learning deuces wild. Her friend had to keep stopping her and telling her the right play (or at least HER right way). My favorite was when the lady was dealt 2 pairs and the know it all told her to always hold either the pair on the left or the pair on the right and not to switch sides. This would improve her odds. What a load of crap that is.

After cashing out I went over to the coffee shop for a quick dinner. I had the hot roast beef sandwich. It was good and hot and in just a little while I was back in the casino playing deuces wild again. I was hitting quite a few wild royals and unfortunately I hit a lot of natural quads and was even dealt a natural straight flush. It’s hard enough to get those and getting them on deuces really sucks! I played here for an hour and half and cashed out another $150 up without hitting the deuces. It was now about 10pm and my eyes were tired so I took a break. It was too early to go to bed so I watched a little TV for a while before going back to the casino.

After my break I went back to the deuces machines. I should have stayed in the room and went to bed though. The first $100 went down the drain in less than 30 minutes. It took a little longer for the next $100 to go away. More like an hour is what it took for this $100 to go. I’m still up $100 for the day though and that’s better than most days have been so far this trip. It’s now going on towards 2am so it’s time to end another day on this trip.

Total win/loss for the day $100
Total comps for the day $25
