I'm Not Losing You
A Story of Dedication to Those I Love

“Hey, I still have to show you those pictures, don’t I? That is in fact what we were supposed to do in the first place, wasn’t it?” Yes, I guess it was. Big surprise, we had both almost forgotten about them. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out an envelope with about six or seven pictures in it. He took them out and placed them on the table in front of me. “Well, take a look!” He said. I flipped through the pictures of me sitting on stage with the guys. There were some really cute ones of Lucas singing to me, practically kneeling in front of me, and I had the biggest smile on my face. I smiled as I looked through them.
“These are so cute! Tell your mom I love them!”
“Actually, these are yours to keep. I got copies made of them for you.” He replied. I smiled and thanked him. They really were adorable. And since I obviously didn’t have any on my own camera (now that would have been difficult) it was nice to have a few. I put the pictures in my purse and looked up at him again. Once again, we had a moment of strange silence. Then it was broken.
“So what are you up to for the holidays this year?” He asked.
“Oh the usual. Jumping between my mom’s family, my dad’s family and my step-family.” I replied.
“Oh I didn’t know your parents were divorced. I’m sorry.” He said, sort of surprised.
“Oh no, it’s ok. It was a long time ago.” I didn’t want him to feel bad for me, because I didn’t feel bad for myself. “So what about you? What are your holiday plans?”
“Oh nothing too exciting. Besides practicing like crazy for the tour afterwards, there’s nothing too out of the ordinary going on.”
“What, no big parties?” I joked. He smiled at me a little and laughed.
“Nah, nothing really that big. I figured that you would be the one having a big party or something.” He said.
“Well, now that you mention it, I guess I am. I’m actually having the big Vi3 Fan Christmas party.” I laughed. I had almost forgotten about that one. I was planning on having it last year, but I never got around to planning it.
“Oh really?” He had a sly smile on his face.
“Yeah, I decided to have a big Christmas party with everyone at my house. It’s on the…wait, let me think for a second…the 21st.”
“Oh really? That’s in 2 days you know.” He reminded me.
“Shit, you’re right! It is! Ha! I guess that means I should start cleaning my house, huh?” I mentioned.
“Yeah, I guess so. Now how come we weren’t invited?” He laughed. It was funny though, because I had actually thought of inviting them, but realized that they probably wouldn’t come anyway, so why bother. “The 21st is one of the only days we don’t have absolutely packed.”
“Well I didn’t think you’d be able to come, so I didn’t even think to bother with it.” I replied, a little bit defensively.
“Ugh, well I feel unloved!” He sniffled. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Awe, no no. I definitely thought of it, I just didn’t think it would be possible. But hey, if you WANT to come, you are more than welcome to.” I replied. I thought it was sort of weird that he was suggesting that he should have been invited.
“Well maybe I will. I think I have your address somewhere, don’t I?” He asked.
“Um, I’m not sure. Do you?” I don’t remember ever giving it to him, so I didn’t really think he had it.
“Well here, write it down for me, and maybe I’ll plan a ‘surprise visit’ on the 21st.” He laughed. He passed me a napkin and a pen. I scrawled down my address on the napkin and handed it back to him.
“Yes, I have definitely seen this address before.” He said, gazing at my writing. He put the napkin in his back pocket, and we started small talk again.
“So who is coming to this party?” He asked. It was a valid question.
“Well let’s see…Sam, Rachel, Mardy, Jen, Kelly, Shilpa, Sadia, Nicole, Krystal, Lety, Crystal, Krissy, Krista, G, Brittany, Karmelle, Suzy, man, everyone is coming.” I began to forget the names of everyone that was coming to my own house within the next few days. “And the funny thing is, I invited almost everyone. Even though some of them don’t get along at all.” He laughed a little. I replied with, “But it isn’t a Vi3 event without some drama. You know that one!” He laughed again, because he knew that it was true. There’s always some sort of drama going on at one point in the night.
“Well I guess you’re right. I guess you just better have a big house, huh?” At least he agreed with me. I smiled and nodded. I mean, my house wasn’t huge, but it was big enough that if there was a fight, they wouldn’t have to see each other.
I glanced at my watch, and just as I did, Justin did the same.
“Wow. It’s already 3:30.” He said.
“Yeah, time flies, doesn’t it?” I replied. We both agreed.
“Only when you’re having a good time, like now.” He said in return. We gathered our things together, and got the check. After paying for everything, we both stood up, put our coats on and got ready to brace the cold outside. He walked me to my car (considering his was parked next to me, it wasn’t that big of a challenge) and said good-bye to me.
“Well, it was great to see you, Mya, and I’ll see you again very soon. You’ll be there on the 4th, right?” He asked for about the 102nd time.
“Yes Justin, I’ll be there. You ask me that every time.” I giggled.
“Oh that’s right. You guys got the good seats. Well, I guess I’ll see you then!” He said, giving me one last hug before he climbed into his car. The two of us started our cars at the same moment, and we both drove off in opposite directions for home. Mid trip, I decided to look at my phone. The whole time it had been off, and there were three messages for me. The first one was Sam, just calling because she was bored. I skipped that one, and the second was my mom, just calling to see when I would be home. I’ll call her back in a minute. The third one was Rachel.
“Hey Mya, it’s Rachel. Just wondering where you’re at, because I got a strange email from Justin. I mentioned the party that you were having at your house, and he emailed me back saying that he, and I quote, ‘may just have to stop in and say hello if everyone is going to be there.’ So I guess that means that we’re going to have to look extra nice huh? Well, call me back when you get this, I know you’re out to lunch with him right now, Sam told me. You’re lucky I don’t beat you up. Haha. It’s ok, maybe we’ll see him on the 21st, right? Well anyway, call me later.” Wow. So I wasn’t the only one to tell him about the party? That was interesting. Maybe that’s why he got me to mention it today. Was he hinting at something or what? It was a question that was going to plague me all the way home. And until the 21st, it was still going to be on my mind. Now I had to call back my mom.

**********

I woke up the morning of the 21st at 10:00. Three hours later than I had planned. I bolted out of bed and got straight to cleaning my house. I made sure that my brother was leaving soon. I really didn’t care if my sister was there or not, but I needed my brother out. Sure enough, he was leaving for work in twenty minutes. I must have cleaned that house better than it had ever been cleaned before. By now, the floors were practically sparkling and I would totally be willing to eat off of them. Every inch of my house was perfect. And it only took me two hours. Now hopefully I’ll be able to get ready by the time people start showing up. I jumped in the shower and cleaned off all the house dirt and sweat that I worked up cleaning the house. I felt much better. After my shower, I wiped the steam off of the mirrors and just stared at myself in the mirror for a minute. For once I didn’t look stressed. I was totally awake and I was feeling pretty good. I had a feeling everything was going to go my way. I walked out of my bathroom to get to my bedroom, and I noticed that there were 4 people already in my living room. Completely confused, I looked to see who it was. I was relieved to see that it was only Rachel, Mardy, Sam and Michelle. I had nearly forgotten that they were showing up early to help me set up everything.
“Hey…almost forgot you were coming early. I’m going to go get ready, just give me a minute here.” I said.
“Well do you want us just to start decorating and everything while you get ready?” Rachel asked.
“If you know what you want to do, then go right ahead.” I said to the four of them.
“Well alright. We’ll get started, just come join us when you’re finished.” Said Michelle. I let them get started and I finished climbing the stairs to my room. I was just about to put on my outfit, when my phone rings.
“Ugh, Carrie!” I yelled down the stairs. “Can you get that?” I heard her yell something back, and she picked up the phone.
“Melissa! It’s for you! It’s some guy!” She yelled. I sighed. Who is calling me now? A guy? What guy would be calling me here? I picked up the phone.
      “Hello?”
“Hey, Mya, it’s Erik.” I was totally shocked. What was he doing calling my house?
“Oh, hi…what’s up?” I was so confused. And I guess it showed in my voice.
“Well I heard that you were having a big party at your house today. Is that right?”
      “Yeah…who told you? Justin?”
“Haha, yeah he did. We were just curious. What time is it at and how long are y’all going to be around?” Um, what exactly was he going for? I was starting to get nervous.
“Well everyone is getting here around 1:00ish, why?” I’m guessing he could tell I was starting to get worried because he laughed a little bit.
“We just figured that since we had some free time today, that we may drop by for a little bit. Is that alright with you?”
“Y…yeah, it’s fine. Like when were you thinking?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Just as soon as we get a chance. How long are you all going to be there?”
“Until everyone leaves. There really isn’t a set time or anything. So whenever I guess.” I replied. My heart was beating faster as he kept talking. Great. Now I had to make an effort to look perfect.
“Well then I guess we’ll see you later on then, huh?” He said, wrapping up the conversation.
“Yeah…I guess so…” I said, still in disbelief. “Wait, do you have my address?”
“Yes, Justin has it right here.” I could hear Justin start reading it off. Apparently they were in the Denali headed somewhere because I could hear them all talking in the background.
“Yep, he’s right.” I said after hearing him.
“Well then we’ll see you later. Alright?”
“Alright then. See ya!” I said. “Wait! Just out of curiosity, how did you get my number?” I asked.
“Mya, I’m Erik. I have everyone’s number from one point or another.” He laughed. It made sense. We both laughed and I hung up the phone. I yelled down to the four of them decorating my house.
“Guys! Make it look perfect! Looks like we’re having some surprise visitors!”
