Today was a busy day. Yong was not in a good mood this morning. He has a runny nose and cough and just seemed out of sorts. This morning at breakfast he threw a major temper tantrum. I wouldn’t let him have another package of brown sugar and he started to scream. We tried distracting him and nothing worked. He started hitting and kicking so I took him back to the room. When I put him down he collapsed on the floor and started screaming and kicking and hitting the floor. Nothing seemed to help. After about 10 minutes Yong let me pick him up, but he was still just sobbing. I rocked him and held him.
When Paul and Jen came back from breakfast he immediately wanted to go to Paul. After I handed him over, Yong was completely happy. I guess he has become a daddy’s boy, which is fine with me. When we get back to the States Paul will just have to take him to work with him. We had about 15 minutes after the tantrum ended to get ready for the famous ‘red couch’ photo.
group red couch photo ![]() Yong and Jen looked great in their outfits.
![]() Yong was OK until it was actually time for the photo. He didn’t want to sit with the other children. He wasn’t the only child having problems. The area around the photo shoot was pure bedlam. Parents were consoling crying children, parents were taking photographs from all different angles and siblings were running wild. I don’t know how the final photo will turn out. We get it back tomorrow.
![]() After the photo session, we went to get Yong’s visa photo taken and have his visa medical exam. The office for the medical exam was quite crowded with many Chinese nationals as well as families with adopted children. A sign on the wall there said 'keep quiet.' Yong passed with no problems and he wasn’t even afraid of being there. I think Jen was a little jealous of the attention being paid to Yong, because she kept wanting to be tested, too. After lunch and a short nap, which both Jen and Yong insisted they didn’t need, we got ready to go on a river cruise on the Pearl River. It was a little cool, but since it hadn’t rained all day, we were able to go to the top of the boat and enjoy the view of the buildings along the river.
from the river cruise ![]() By the time we got back to the White Swan hotel we were hungry again. Since Yong was also tired, Paul got some chocolate and headed back to the room. The Snickers bar that Paul got has some type of contest listed on the outside. On the inside of the bar the writing is in Chinese so we don’t know whether he won or not. Jen and I went to the Deli for chocolate ice cream cones. The chocolate ice cream tastes different here, but it still fills the chocolate need!
