Bethesda Christian vs. Fort Wayne Canterbury (Class A Championship)

Bethesda Christian coach Jon Grubaums started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Isaac Mlagan, 6-3 Sr. Luke Douglas, 6-8 Sr. Cooper Jackson, 6-2 Sr. Sam Mlagan, and 6-2 Jr. Steven Tierney. Fort Wayne Canterbury countered with Deric Adams countered with 6-5 Sr. John Parent, 6-5 Sr. Aston Dressler, 6-8 Sr. Tucker Day, 5-10 Sr. Devon Lewis, and 6-0 Sr. Colin Burda.

Fort Wayne Canterbury defeated Bethesda Christian by the score of 48-41. There were 10 lead changes and five ties in this game. Fort Wayne Canterbury shot 46.2% from the field including four of seven from the three point line. The Cavaliers connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Bethesda Christian turnovers. Devon Lewis added 12 points including three of five free throws, three rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. Tucker Day recorded eight points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Luke Douglas led Bethesda Christian with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Cooper Jackson added nine points, seven rebounds, six blocked shots, and two steals. The Braves connected on eight of nine free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 11 points off eight Wapahani turnovers. Wapahani shot 34.9% from the field including five of 28 from beyond the arc. The Raiders connected on one of two free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored three points off four Brownstown Central turnovers.

Jack Benter led Brownstown Central with 25 points including two three point baskets, five of five free throws, six rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots, and two steals. Chace Coomer added 13 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and two steals. Michael Sheffer recorded 11 points including two three point baskets, and six rebounds. Jack Miller led Scottsburg with 32 points including three three point baskets, five of six free throws, and four rebounds. Keenan Garner added 19 points including two three point baskets, nine rebounds, and five assists. Taden Metzger recorded 10 points including two three point baskets, two of two free throws, and two assists.

Mark Zachery led Ben Davis with 14 points including two three point baskets, four of four free throws, three rebounds, and five assists. Ramone Enis added 11 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Karl Windham recorded 11 points including three of three free throws. Mark White chipped in with 10 points including four of four free throws, three rebounds, and two steals. Evangel Christian got excellent games from their guard combo of Christian Doerr and Kyran Tilley while Trinity was hampered by an injury mid way through the third quarter to Drae Vasser who was limited to 19 minutes of action tonight. Evangel Christian shot 38.5% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line. The Eagles connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored eight points off 13 Trinity turnovers. Trinity shot 36.4% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc. The Shamrocks connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored eight points off seven Evangel Christian turnovers.

Kyran Tilley led Evangel Christian with 20 points including three of four free throws, three rebounds, and four steals. Christian Doerr added 19 points including three three point baskets, six of eight free throws, four rebounds, and five assists. Davier White recorded seven points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots. Ben Mukadi chipped in with six points and 11 rebounds. Isaiah Chitapa recorded five points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Alex Johnson led Trinity with 15 points including six of six free throws, and three rebounds. 6-3 So. Keriawn Berry added 11 points and three rebounds. Drae Vasser recorded eight points and five rebounds. Julius Edmonds chipped in with six points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Lyon County vs. Great Crossing (Semifinal)

Lyon County coach Ryan Perry started the following lineup: 6-6 So. Lukas Breedlove, 6-2 So. Bray Kirk, 6-6 Sr. Brady Shoulders, 6-2 Sr. Travis Perry, and 6-3 Sr. Jack Reddick. Great Crossing coach Steve Page countered with 6-7 Sr. Jeremiah Godfrey, 6-5 Jr. Vince Dawson III, 7-1 Jr. Malachi Moreno, 5-9 Jr. Junius Burrell, and 6-4 Jr. Gage Richardson.

Lyon County defeated Great Crossing 58-49 in a game that many believed are the best two teams in the state. There were three ties and three lead changes in tis game. Lyon County was able to prevent Great Crossing from totally dominating in the paint by limiting the “bigs” touches and once they got the lead controlled the tempo of the game. Lyon County shot 44.2% from the field including nine of 21 from the three point line. The Lyons connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 16 points off nine Great Crossing turnovers. Great Crossing shot 37% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc. The Warhawks connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored two points off five Lyon County turnovers.

Travis Perry led Lyon County with 24 points including four three point baskets, six of eight free throws, four rebounds, and four assists. Brady Shoulders added 13 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws, three rebounds, two assists, and four steals. The Harlan County faithful serenaded the audience with the song “You Will Never Leave Harlan Alive” as they celebrated their team’s 55-47 victory over Evangel Christian to advance to the championship. There were two ties in this game and four lead changes. Harlan County shot 32.6% from the field including four of 24 from the three point line. The Black Bears connected on 21 of 25 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored four points off six Evangel Christian turnovers. Evangel Christian shot 29.4% from the field including five of 25 from beyond the arc. The Eagles connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored five points off eight Harlan County turnovers.

Trent Noah led Harlan County with 29 points including three three point baskets, 16 of 18 free throws, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Maddox Huff added 15 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Reggie Cottrell recorded six points and three rebounds.

Kyran Tilley led Evangel Christian with 25 points including three three point baskets, six of seven free throws, and three rebounds. Lyon County realized their dream season tonight with a 67-58 victory over Harlan County. The score was tied 45-45 after three quarters but Lyon County outscored the Black Bears 22-13 in the final quarter to earn the championship. There were seven ties and one lead change in this game. This was a dream come true for Travis Perry, Brady Shoulders, and Jack Reddick who started playing basketball together 10 years ago. Lyon County shot 54.8% from the field including 10 of 19 from the three point line. The Lyons connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 12 points off seven Harlan County turnovers. Harlan County shot 50% from the field including 11 of 28 from beyond the arc. The Black Bears connected on one of two free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 10 points off eight Lyon County turnovers.

Travis Perry led Lyon County with 27 points including five three point baskets, five assists, and two steals. Jack Reddick added 16 points including four three point baskets, and four assists. Brady Shoulders recorded 15 points including four of eight free throws, seven rebounds, and three steals. Lukas Breedlove chipped in with four points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots. Bray Kirk added three points on three of four free throws, and six rebounds.

Maddox Huff led Harlan County with 22 points including six three point baskets, and four assists. Bullitt East shot 27.8% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc. The Valkyries connected on 15 of 19 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 28 Central turnovers. Central shot 28.3% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 19 Sacred Heart turnovers.

Reagan Bender led Sacred Heart with 18 points including two three point baskets, eight of 10 free throws, two rebounds, and three assists. Shady Spring vs. Fairmont Senior (Class 3A Championship)

Shady Spring coach Ronnie Olson started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Jack Williams, 6-2 Jr. Makhi Olson, 6-4 Sr. Ammar Maxwell, 6-0 Jr. Jalon Bailey, and 6-0 Sr. Gavin Davis. Fairmont Senior coach David Retton countered with 6-3 Jr. Tre Cumberledge, 6-4 Sr. Zycheus Dobbs, 5-11 So. Julz Butler, 6-0 Sr. Andrew Grant, and 6-2 So. Darrell Claybrook.

Shady Spring defeated Fairmont Senior 58-55 in overtime. Fairmont Senior had an opportunity to win the game in regulation but missed a jump shot in the closing seconds. Ammar Maxwell (Shady Spring) and Zycheus Dobbs (Fairmont Senior) both fouled out in overtime. There were eight ties and seven lead changes in this game. Shady Spring shot 43.6% from the field including three of five from the three point line. The Tigers connected on 21 of 24 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Fairmont Senior turnovers. Fairmont Senior shot 40.9% from the field including six of 11 from beyond the arc. The Polar Bears connected on 13 of 16 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 14 Shady Spring turnovers.

Jalon Bailey led Shady Spring with 18 points including nine of nine free throws. Jack Williams added 15 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws, four rebounds, and three assists. Ammar Maxwell recorded 14 points including six of seven free throws, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots. Gavin Davis chipped in with nine points and four rebounds.

Andre Grant led Fairmont Senior with 28 points including four three point baskets, six of seven free throws, and five rebounds. Zycheus Dobbs added 15 points including four of four free throws, six rebounds, six assists, seven blocked shots, and two steals. Darrell Claybrook recorded six points, three rebounds, and six steals. Julz Butler chipped in with five points, two rebounds, and three assists.

Spring Mills coach Luke Samples countered with 6-7 So. Xavier Anderson, 6-5 Jr. Loakkhae Uth-Smith, 6-7 Jr. Caleb Thomas, 5-9 So. Akwasi Opoku-Achampong, and 6-2 Jr. Max Anderson.

Sharron Young’s three point basket with 13 seconds remaining in overtime gave Morgantown a 35-32 victory over Spring Mills. There were six ties and 10 lead changes in the game. Morgantown shot 27.5% from the field including three of 20 from the three point line. The Mohigans connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 15 Spring Mills turnovers. Spring Mills shot 33.3% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 12 Morgantown turnovers.

Sharron Young led Morgantown with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Brady Savage added eight points and seven rebounds. Jacob King recorded five points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals. Jay Shrewsberry chipped in with five points and six rebounds.

Caleb Thomas led Spring Mills with 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three blocked shots. Awasi Opoku-Achampong added nine points, five rebounds, and two steals. Loakkhae Uth-Smith recorded three points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Tucker County coach Daniel Helmick countered with 6-4 Sr. Ashton Lycliter, 6-0 Sr. Ethan Rosenau, 6-5 Sr. Owen Knotts, 5-10 Sr. Maddox Anderson, and 5-11 Jr. Trevan Bonner.

Bryson Elia recorded a steal and layup that proved to be the winning points in a 35-32 victory for Tug Valley over Tucker County. Tug Valley outscored Tucker County 9-4 in the final quarter. There were three ties and eight led changes in this game. Tug Valley shot 34.2% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line. The Panthers connected on six of eight free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 16 Tucker County turnovers. Tucker County shot 38.9% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on one of two free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored four points off 10 Tug Valley turnovers.

Kaden Hale led Tug Valley with 13 points and four rebounds. Buddy Marcum added nine points including three of four free throws, eight rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals. Braydun Ferris recorded six points, two rebounds, and five assists.

Ashton Lycliter led Tucker County with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Trevan Bonner added six points, five rebounds, and two assists. Bluefield coach Buster Large countered with 6-0 Sr. Kamron Gore, 6-0 Sr. Glenn Keene, 6-4 Sr. RJ Hairston, 5-8 Sr. Sencere Fields, and 5-9 Sr. EJ Washington.

Charleston Catholic outscored Bluefield 13-7 in the fourth quarter to earn a 42-39 victory. There were two ties and three lead changes in this game. Charleston Catholic shot 38.9% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line. The Irish connected on 13 of 15 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Bluefield turnovers. Bluefield shot 43.2% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc. The Beavers connected on two of six free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 11 Charleston Catholic turnovers.

Zaden Ranson led Charleston Catholic with 13 points including three of three free throws, nine rebounds, and two steals. Jay Allen Turner added 12 points including six of six free throws, seven rebounds, and four steals. Max Wilcox recorded 11 points including three of four free throws, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

RJ Hairston led Bluefield with 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Kamron Gore added nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots. Glenn Keene recorded nine points on three three point baskets. Sencere Fields chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.
