St. Joseph (MO) coach Julie Groessling-Matheny started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Erin Nelson, 5-11 Sr. Susie Schmank, 6-3 Sr. Sydney Stipanovich, 5-6 Sr. Emmie Haring, and 5-5 So. Mary Barton. Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 5-9 Jr. Dai Jia Ruffin, 5-7 Sr. Kristin Matula, 5-10 Sr. Caroline Long, 5-3 So. Ashley Johnson, and 5-3 So. Gretchen Samsel.
Sacred Heart Academy trailed 20-10 in the second quarter but rallied for a 59-57 victory over St. Joseph (MO). Dai Jia Ruffin hit two free throws and a layup down the stretch to break a 55-55 tie and give the Valkyries the victory. Sacred Heart shot 41.5% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 18 St. Joseph turnovers. St. Joseph shot 53.7% from the field including one of three from beyond the arc. The Angels connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored six points off five Sacred Hart turnovers.
Dai Jia Ruffin led Sacred Heart with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and eight steals. Ashley Johnson and Gretchen Samsel each recorded 10 points and two three point baskets.
Sydney Stipanovich led St. Joseph (MO) with 29 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Erin Nelson added 20 points and eight rebounds.
