Atherton (9-17)  vs.  Trinity (26-3)

 

Atherton coach Thomas Wilson started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Tyler Pelton, 5-10 Jr. Joshua Floyd, 6-4 Sr. Andy Read, 5-11 Jr. Devin Mayfield, and 5-9 Jr. Marcus West.  Trinity coach Mike Szabo countered with 6-4 Jr. Darryl Hicks, 6-1 Jr. James Quick, 6-6 Sr. Nathan Dieudonne, 6-1 Sr. Charles Foster, and 6-2 Sr. Troy Saxton.

 

Trinity defeated Atherton by a score of 84-63.  Trinity shot 48.4% from the field including 12 of 23 (52.2%) from the three point line.  The Shamrocks connected on 12 of 18 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 20 Atherton turnovers.  Atherton shot 46.9% from the field including five of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Rebels connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Trinity turnovers.

 

James Quick led Trinity with 24 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and six steals.  Troy Saxton added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Darryl Hicks chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.

 

Devin Mayfield led Atherton with 21 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and four assists.  Marcus West added 17 points including two three point baskets.  Andy Read pulled down seven rebounds.

Waggener coach Bryan O’Neill started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Derrick Maddox, 6-0 Jr. Tyrone Stallard, 6-2 Sr. Larry Taylor, 5-8 Jr. Joseph Head, and 5-10 So. Semaj Ingram.  Seneca coach Brad Fraser countered with 6-3 Sr. Jarret Morgan, 6-0 Sr. Devin White, 6-3 Sr. Robert Winters, 6-0 So. William Maddox, and 6-0 Sr. Keith Miller.

 

Seneca defeated Waggener by a score of 64-59.  Seneca led 41-18 in the third quarter but Waggener outscored the Redhawks 41-23 the rest of the way to make the final margin close.  Seneca shot 50% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Redhawks connected on 23 of 31 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 24 Waggener turnovers.  Waggener shot 44.9% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 20 Seneca turnovers.

 

Devin White led Seneca with 33 points and four steals.  White was 10 of 16 from the field including one of five from the three point line, and 12 of 17 from the free throw line.  Jarret Morgan added eight points.

 

6-0 Sr. Camden Newton led Waggener with 23 points including three three point baskets and eight rebounds.  6-3 Sr. Brandon Millner added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Derrick Maddox added nine points and Tyrone Stallard pulled down eight rebounds.

William Maddox, and 6-0 Sr. Keith Miller.

 

Trinity outscored Seneca 31-14 in the second quarter on their way to a 75-46 victory.  Trinity shot 43.3% from the field including six of 23 from the three point line.  The Shamrocks connected on 17 of 22 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 32 points off 28 Seneca turnovers.  Seneca shot 41.2% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc.  The Redhawks connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 10 Trinity turnovers.

 

Nathan Dieudonne led Trinity with 27 points and seven rebounds.  Darryl Hicks added 16 points.  Charles Foster chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

 

Devin Miller led Seneca with 26 points and six rebounds.  White was eight of 13 from the field including two of two from the three point line, and eight of nine from the free throw line.  William Maddox added eight points.  6-2 So. Jeonta Samuels pulled down seven rebounds.

Sayre coach Scotty Sutton started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Maddie Mitchell, 5-7 So. Grace Rahman, 6-3 Fr. Gabby Bowie, 5-5 Sr. Sophie O’Rourke, and 5-7 Sr. Emily Culbertson.  Bryan Station coach Donna Murphy countered with 5-10 So. Victoria McCoy, 5-8 Jr. Serena Sandusky, 6-1 Jr. Hallie Crumbie, 5-7 Jr. Deshante Clay, and 5-5 Sr. Detierra Carpenter.

 

Bryan Station scored 22 points off 26 Sayre turnovers in a 47-33 victory.  Bryan Station shot 35.6% from the field including seven of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Defenders connected on eight of 16 free throws and pulled down 24 rebounds.  Bryan Station attempted 16 more shots (45-29) from the field than Sayre.  Sayre shot 44.8% from the field including one of three from beyond the arc.  The Lady Spartans connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored six points off 13 Bryan Station turnovers.

 

Serena Sandusky led Bryan Station with 16 points including four three point baskets.  Victoria McCoy added 12 points and nine rebounds.

 

Maddie Mitchell led Sayre with 18 points.  Gabby Bowie added nine points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and six blocked shots.

Henry Clay led 35-21 in the third quarter but Bryan Station’s pressure defense allowed Bryan Station to rally for a 60-54 upset victory over the Blue Devils.  Bryan Station outscored Henry Clay 22-13 in the final quarter.  Bryan Station shot 44.7% from the field including zero of eight from the three point line.  The Defenders connected on 18 of 28 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 38.5% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 11 of 19 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 18 Bryan Station turnovers.

 

6-3 Sr. Omari Sweat led Bryan Station with 15 points and five rebounds.  Sweat was seven of seven from the field and one of four from the free throw line.  Jaylen Beckham added 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.  Jordan Henry chipped in with 10 points including six of six free throws.  Marcus Williams recorded 10 points and six rebounds.  6-3 Sr. Kalahari Harris pulled down eight rebounds.

 

Trey Grundy led Henry Clay with 11 points and five rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Alex Blackburn added 10 points and five rebounds.  Wes Kimball  and Jordan Green each recorded nine points and five rebounds.  5-10 So. Teddy Ware chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets in only four minutes of playing time.

Madison Southern outscored Richmond Model 11-1 in the first quarter on their way to a 61-53 victory.  Madison Southern shot 34.5% from the field including five of 20 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 18 of 25 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 23 Model turnovers.  Model shot 31.7% from the field including one of seven from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on 14 of 24 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 20 Madison Southern turnovers.

 

Jordan Renner led Madison Southern with 23 points including three three point baskets.  5-9 8th grader Briana Lanham added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Kristen Hayes chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.

 

Tara Hill led Richmond Model with 15 points and 16 rebounds.  Darrian Botts added 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Hayley Hunt chipped in with 10 points.

Madison Southern defeated Richmond Model 72-63 in overtime.  Richmond Model led 16-7 after the first quarter but Madison Southern rallied and Damien Harris hit one of two free throws with one second left in regulation to tie the score at 56-56 to  force overtime.  There were nine lead changes and eight ties in this game.  Madison Southern shot 36.1% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 22 of 41 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Richmond Model turnovers.  Richmond Model shot 36.9% from the field including five of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Patriots connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Madison Southern turnovers.

 

Tyler Abshear led Madison Southern with 30 points and 12 rebounds.  5-11 Jr. Mike Rothermel added 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Chris Roberts also scored 11 points.  Damien Harris recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

 

Wayne Morris led Richmond Model with 15 points including three three point baskets.  A.J. Hammons added 11 points.  Hunter Conner chipped in with nine points and Jon Ballard recorded eight points and 11 rebounds.

DaiJia Ruffin led Scared Heart with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists.  Ruffin was seven of eight from the field and three of six from the free throw line.  Erica Walsh added 11 points and five steals.  5-6 So. Raven Merriweather recorded 10 points, three assists, and four steals.  Jazmin Smith chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds.

Wednesday February 22nd

 

Lexington Christian Academy (12-17)  vs.  Lexington Catholic (19-10) (Girls)

 

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Katelin Bundy, 5-7 Jr. Kristin Rinehart, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Jacob, 5-6 8th grader Hannah Hartley, and 5-4 Sr. Kelli Mitchuson.  Lexington Catholic coach Chelsea Chowning countered with 6-0 Sr. Alex Botkin, 6-0 Sr. Emily Johns, 6-0 Sr. Elizabeth Walton, 5-8 Sr. Bonnie Rhule, and 5-9 Jr. Octavia Wilson.

 

The “upset” express was ready to roll tonight but Lexington Catholic rallied to defeat a valiant, determined Lexington Christian Academy team by a score of 47-44.  LCA raced out to a 22-12 lead in the second quarter before Lexington Catholic rallied to pull within four; 24-20 at halftime.  LCA only attempted 11 shots from the field in the first half but connected on eight for a blistering 72.7% from the field.  Katelin Bundy got LCA off to a 17-8 first quarter lead with 12 points including three three point baskets.  LCA led 36-32 after three quarters but Lexington Catholic roared from behind to take a 43-36 lead before Kristen Jacob broke LCA’s scoring draught with a basket at the 2:23 mark to make the score 43-38.  The Lady Eagles chipped away and took a 44-43 lead on two free throws by Kelli Mitchuson with 1:11 left in the game.  Alex Botkin hit two free throws to give Lexington Catholic a 45-44 lead with 53.2 seconds on the clock.  Botkin then stole the ball and Emily Johns hit a layup to give Lexington Catholic a 47-44 lead.  LCA got off a three point attempt in the closing seconds but missed the mark.

 

Lexington Catholic shot 29.6% from the field including five of 23 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 22 LCA turnovers.  Lexington Catholic attempted 26 more shots (54-28) from the field than LCA.  The Lady Knights also held a 21-2 advantage on second effort points.  LCA shot 53.6% from the field including six of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Lexington Catholic turnovers.  LCA did not sub tonight with each of their starters logging 32 minutes of playing time.

 

Alex Botkin led Lexington Catholic with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.  Elizabeth Walton added 12 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Emily Johns and Bonnie Rhule chipped in with eight and seven points respectively.

 

Katelin Bundy led LCA with 16 points including three three point baskets.  Kristen Jacob added 13 points and five rebounds.  Kelli Mitchuson chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.  Kristin Rinehart recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

Lexington Catholic defeated Paul L. Dunbar by a score of 62-50.  Lexington Catholic shot 53.3% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 13 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 40% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 12 points off eight Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Bryan Woomer led Lexington Catholic with 17 points and seven assists.  Jack Whitman added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Craig Floyd also scored 12 points.  Patrick Keller chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

 

Mike Smith led Dunbar with 25 points.  Smith was 10 of 13 from the field including one of two from the three point line, and four of four from the free throw line.  William Gary added nine points and Taylor King recorded seven points and 13 rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Zach Herrin chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

Lafayette defeated a cold shooting (22.2% from the field) Tates Creek team by a score of 51-37.  Lafayette led 39-37 early in the final quarter and Tates Creek had two possessions to go for the tie or lead but Lafayette finished the game on a 12-0 run to ensure the victory.  Lafayette shot 45% from the field including two of seven from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 13 of 26 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored nine points off nine Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 22.2% from the field including two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Commodores connected on 11 of 20 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Nick Trisko added nine points and nine rebounds.  Lance Blakley recorded eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

Tates Creek (13-16)  vs.  Lexington Christian Academy (11-17) (Girls)

 

Tates Creek coach Justin Cheatham started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Katie Pippen, 5-5 Sr. Michelle Tichenor, 6-1 Sr. Peyton Hisel, 5-5 Jr. Lexi Whaley, and 5-6 Jr. Oney Harrison.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands countered with 5-8 So. Katelin Bundy, 5-7 Jr. Kristin Rinehart, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Jacob, 5-6 8th grader Hannah Hartley, and 5-4 Sr. Kelli Mitchuson.

 

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Tates Creek by a score of 46-34 tonight.  Tates Creek effectively bottled up LCA inside threat Kristen Jacob for most of the first half with a box-and-one defense and led 19-12 in the second quarter.  LCA connected on some timely three point shots and Peyton Hisel picked up two fouls freeing Jacob inside to score the last five points of the half to pull LCA within two; 19-17 at halftime.  Tates Creek was ice cold from the field in the second half (15.2%) and LCA took a 38-24 lead early in the final quarter.  Tates Creek went on a 9-0  run to narrow the margin but Kristin Rinehart hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.

 

LCA shot 46.9% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored five points off eight Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 22.8% from the field including three of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 LCA turnovers.

 

Kristen Jacob led LCA with 14 points, 20 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Kristin Rinehart added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Katelin Bundy chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets.

Dunbar outscored LCA 18-4 in the second quarter on their way to a 75-49 victory over LCA.  Dunbar came into the game on a 10 game losing streak but came out tonight determined to reverse their fortunes.  LCA fought valiantly this season but the loss of 6-2 Sr. Taylor Barnette, one of the best sharpshooters in the state was eventually to much to overcome.

 

Dunbar shot 49% from the field including eight of 14 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 19 of 29 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 20 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 46.3% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Dunbar turnovers.

 

William Gary led Dunbar in scoring with 22 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and four assists.  Mike Smith added 21 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and nine steals.  Taylor King and 6-1 Sr. Zach Herrin each recorded 12 points and six rebounds.

 

Tyler Harville led LCA with 20 points including three three point baskets.  Patrick Nickodem added eight points.
