Lexington Christian Academy (12-17)  vs.  Lexington Catholic (19-10) (Girls)

 

Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Katelin Bundy, 5-7 Jr. Kristin Rinehart, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Jacob, 5-6 8th grader Hannah Hartley, and 5-4 Sr. Kelli Mitchuson.  Lexington Catholic coach Chelsea Chowning countered with 6-0 Sr. Alex Botkin, 6-0 Sr. Emily Johns, 6-0 Sr. Elizabeth Walton, 5-8 Sr. Bonnie Rhule, and 5-9 Jr. Octavia Wilson.

 

The “upset” express was ready to roll tonight but Lexington Catholic rallied to defeat a valiant, determined Lexington Christian Academy team by a score of 47-44.  LCA raced out to a 22-12 lead in the second quarter before Lexington Catholic rallied to pull within four; 24-20 at halftime.  LCA only attempted 11 shots from the field in the first half but connected on eight for a blistering 72.7% from the field.  Katelin Bundy got LCA off to a 17-8 first quarter lead with 12 points including three three point baskets.  LCA led 36-32 after three quarters but Lexington Catholic roared from behind to take a 43-36 lead before Kristen Jacob broke LCA’s scoring draught with a basket at the 2:23 mark to make the score 43-38.  The Lady Eagles chipped away and took a 44-43 lead on two free throws by Kelli Mitchuson with 1:11 left in the game.  Alex Botkin hit two free throws to give Lexington Catholic a 45-44 lead with 53.2 seconds on the clock.  Botkin then stole the ball and Emily Johns hit a layup to give Lexington Catholic a 47-44 lead.  LCA got off a three point attempt in the closing seconds but missed the mark.

 

Lexington Catholic shot 29.6% from the field including five of 23 from the three point line.  The Lady Knights connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 22 LCA turnovers.  Lexington Catholic attempted 26 more shots (54-28) from the field than LCA.  The Lady Knights also held a 21-2 advantage on second effort points.  LCA shot 53.6% from the field including six of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Lexington Catholic turnovers.  LCA did not sub tonight with each of their starters logging 32 minutes of playing time.

 

Alex Botkin led Lexington Catholic with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.  Elizabeth Walton added 12 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Emily Johns and Bonnie Rhule chipped in with eight and seven points respectively.

 

Katelin Bundy led LCA with 16 points including three three point baskets.  Kristen Jacob added 13 points and five rebounds.  Kelli Mitchuson chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.  Kristin Rinehart recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

Paul L. Dunbar (17-14)  vs.  Lexington Catholic (22-7) (Boys)

 

Paul L. Dunbar coach Justin Yeary started the following lineup: 6-0 So. Jordan Hurst, 6-1 Jr. William Gary, 6-6 Jr. Taylor King, 5-10 So. Donnie Lewis, and 5-10 Jr. Mike Smith.  Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-6 Sr. Patrick Keller, 6-5 Sr. Craig Floyd, 6-9 Jr. Jack Whitman, 5-10 Jr. Dillon Avare, and 5-10 Sr. Bryan Woomer.

 

Lexington Catholic defeated Paul L. Dunbar by a score of 62-50.  Lexington Catholic shot 53.3% from the field including five of 13 from the three point line.  The Knights connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 13 Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 40% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 12 points off eight Lexington Catholic turnovers.

 

Bryan Woomer led Lexington Catholic with 17 points and seven assists.  Jack Whitman added 12 points and nine rebounds.  Craig Floyd also scored 12 points.  Patrick Keller chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.

 

Mike Smith led Dunbar with 25 points.  Smith was 10 of 13 from the field including one of two from the three point line, and four of four from the free throw line.  William Gary added nine points and Taylor King recorded seven points and 13 rebounds.  6-1 Sr. Zach Herrin chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
