Tates Creek (13-16)  vs.  Lexington Christian Academy (11-17) (Girls)

 

Tates Creek coach Justin Cheatham started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Katie Pippen, 5-5 Sr. Michelle Tichenor, 6-1 Sr. Peyton Hisel, 5-5 Jr. Lexi Whaley, and 5-6 Jr. Oney Harrison.  Lexington Christian Academy coach Jason Seamands countered with 5-8 So. Katelin Bundy, 5-7 Jr. Kristin Rinehart, 6-1 Sr. Kristen Jacob, 5-6 8th grader Hannah Hartley, and 5-4 Sr. Kelli Mitchuson.

 

Lexington Christian Academy defeated Tates Creek by a score of 46-34 tonight.  Tates Creek effectively bottled up LCA inside threat Kristen Jacob for most of the first half with a box-and-one defense and led 19-12 in the second quarter.  LCA connected on some timely three point shots and Peyton Hisel picked up two fouls freeing Jacob inside to score the last five points of the half to pull LCA within two; 19-17 at halftime.  Tates Creek was ice cold from the field in the second half (15.2%) and LCA took a 38-24 lead early in the final quarter.  Tates Creek went on a 9-0  run to narrow the margin but Kristin Rinehart hit seven of eight free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.

 

LCA shot 46.9% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored five points off eight Tates Creek turnovers.  Tates Creek shot 22.8% from the field including three of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Commodores connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 LCA turnovers.

 

Kristen Jacob led LCA with 14 points, 20 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Kristin Rinehart added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Katelin Bundy chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets.

 

Peyton Hisel led Tates Creek with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Lexi Whaley added six points.  Michelle Tichenor chipped in with five points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Katie Pippen recorded four points and seven rebounds.

Lexington Christian Academy (17-11)  vs.  Paul L. Dunbar (16-14) (Boys)

 

Lexington Christian Academy coach Tommy Huston started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Michael Young, 6-2 Jr. Taylor Blair, 6-3 Jr. Jon Lannertone, 5-8 Jr. Tyler Harville, and 6-1 Sr. Patrick Nickodem.  Paul L. Dunbar coach Justin Yeary countered with 6-1 Sr. Javone Blincoe, 6-1 Jr. William Gary, 6-6 Jr. Taylor King, 5-10 So. Donnie Lewis, and 5-10 Jr. Mike Smith.

 

Dunbar outscored LCA 18-4 in the second quarter on their way to a 75-49 victory over LCA.  Dunbar came into the game on a 10 game losing streak but came out tonight determined to reverse their fortunes.  LCA fought valiantly this season but the loss of 6-2 Sr. Taylor Barnette, one of the best sharpshooters in the state was eventually to much to overcome.

 

Dunbar shot 49% from the field including eight of 14 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on 19 of 29 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 30 points off 20 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 46.3% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Dunbar turnovers.

 

William Gary led Dunbar in scoring with 22 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, and four assists.  Mike Smith added 21 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and nine steals.  Taylor King and 6-1 Sr. Zach Herrin each recorded 12 points and six rebounds.

 

Tyler Harville led LCA with 20 points including three three point baskets.  Patrick Nickodem added eight points.
