Male vs. Butler (Girls)

Butler High School

Male started the following lineup: 5-11 Jr. Logan Calvert, 5-11 Sr. Kyra Hogan, 6-1 Sr. Iliyah Green, 5-4 So. Ciaja Harbison, and 5-6 So. Emilia Sexton.  Butler coach Larry Just countered with 5-9 Jr. Jaelyn Penn, 5-10 Sr. Allison Just, 5-10 Sr. Micaiah Bowden, 5-4 Jr. Breia Torrens, and 5-8 Jr. Tasia Jeffries.

 

Butler trailed 33-28 at halftime but rallied in the third quarter to take a 51-38 lead on their way to a 73-65 victory over Male.  This was a good early season test for two of the top programs in the state.  Butler shot 32.8% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 27 of 36 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 32 points off 26 Male turnovers.  Male shot 47.8% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bulldogs connected on 18 of 26 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 25 Butler turnovers.

 

Jaelyn Penn led Butler with 24 points four three point baskets and six steals.  5-8 Jr. Janna Lewis added 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Tasia Jeffries recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

 

Ciaja Harbison led Male with 15 points, three assists, and four steals.  Emilia Sexton added 14 points, four assists, and four steals.  5-10 So. India Green chipped in with 10 points.  Iliyah Green recorded five points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Kyra Hogan and Logan Calvert each recorded seven points and five rebounds.
