Chris Sabat's Notes on Blue Gender

Blue Gender is a very unique series, especially compared to anything I've directed. The show is so... serious. I never had the opportunity to shape a property from it's beginning, so I am exhausting all my efforts to make sure this series is as good or better than anything out there. There is a human quality to the series that transcends the stereotype of your average 'cartoon'. The characters are very real, and delightfully multi-dimensional. The Armored Shrikes and the Blue get more advanced from factor to factor (episodes are called factors in Blue Gender) and by the end, you are left in awe of their complexities. I know our script supervisor is working with top-notch translations and our best writers to also assure that Blue Gender stays very true to its original form. We constantly bounce back and forth from the original episodes during the recording session to assure that we capture exactly the right emotion intended by its creators.

The show features the talents of two of our most seasoned actors, Eric Johnson and Laura Bailey, who's credits both include, ironically enough, the character of Trunks on Dragon Ball Z, Eric playing future Trunks and Laura young Trunks. Our recording sessions for Blue Gender have been dramatically different from that of Dragon Ball Z, usually held at night, after normal business hours to assure that the actors are free of any distractions or tours. The night sessions have also provided the dark, intimate setting that is Blue Gender. It has been a real challenge to dub a show that will stay so true to its original form. I think Blue Gender is a very complete, cool, series. And I will put my reputation on the line here... these episodes are good. Really good. The animation is solid, the voices are, at least in my humble opinion, perfect and the original music is both eerie and dynamic.

Our DVDs (available now at the DBZ store) are going to be loaded with very comprehensive features and they are sure to be a "must have" for any anime-phile. I can't wait to share these episodes with the anime community.
