News Pics pics pics Pictures of this team are like buses. None for ages, and then a glut! A combination of the Leader photographer and Howell's new digital camera at the Black Dog game give us some new snaps. Back l to r - Chris Pender, Rob Wellings, Mathew George, Jon Hocking, Mark Howell, Marc Edwards, Clive Alman (Captain), Nev Mann, Matthew Morris, Tom Kennedy Front row l to r - Dave Lightfoot, Graeme Reynolds, Bryan Coleman, Pete Jodrell, Paul Brighton, Scott Ditchfield (Player-Manager) Bloody Council The work to relay the drainage and playing surfaces on both pitches at the Imps has been postponed (again), with the Council now stating that the work will not go ahead until AFTER the new Fire Station is built next to the Police Station adjacent to the ground. These pitches will be the last to benefit again, following recent drainage works at both the Roodee and Westminster Park. Work is being completed on the changing rooms though, so expect to see a change when we come back to the football. Stats all updated The final stats for the season 2005-06 are now updated. Click here to view. The End of Season do starts in the Brom at 7pm on the 5th August. Caught by the fuzz (on the line) The lads rued a couple of poor defeats late on in the season to Tarporley and MBNA, and a couple of bad draws against MBNA and Tattenhall, which cost them the Section C title. These nullified some extremely impressive performances late on, beating Bromfield, Eight Rights and eventual title winners St Werburghs PC, but it was not to be. All stats etc to be updated when Brighty can get them to me, all in all we finished 3rd in a 3 horse race. Grates a bit doesn't it? Blues nearly turn poachers The lads took Section A top 3 side The Gamekeeper to within 5 minutes of a replay, eventually bowing out of the League Cup 1/4 final 5-3 at Christleton High School. Second half Blues The lads got beat 6-4 away at MBNA last Sunday, 19th March, after leading 3-1 at the break. A hat trick from Nick Jones, and one from Matty George were the Blues scorers. The lads now face a huge fixture backlog following the cancellation of so many games. Bache beaten The Blues beat the Bache last Sunday by a 4-2 score line which flattered the visitors if we are being fair. The lads took the lead with a Matty Warren drive from 18 yards, which the keeper did well to get a hand to, but could not stop. The visitors then equalised when Kevin Thomas was adjudged to have pushed an attacker in the box, and the penalty was converted. Nick Jones then knocked in his first of the day, in between the keeper making some superb saves to deny Scott Ditchfield and Tom Brennan. The lads then went further ahead when Nick Jones scored an excellent second, rounding of a run with a clinical finish. A second penalty then gave the visitors more hope, before Nick rounded off his hat trick with a gash on the back of his head following a collision with brother Christian (CJ). There was time for the keeper to keep denying Matt George his much deserved goal, but the visitors could not complain if the ISA had won 10-2, which they would have done were it not for the visiting goalkeeper. Stats pages updated Thanks to some sterling work by Brighty, I have managed to update all of the stats for the season. All fixtures and results are now bang up to date and can be found here, and all man of the match awards (which makes great reading if you are Nick Jones!) can be found here. All stats can always be accessed by clicking on the Stats button above, funnily enough! Blues take point in top 3 clash Last Sunday saw second placed St. Werburghs PC visit the Imps, in a game which was critical to whomever were going to chase the unbeaten to that stage Eight Rights Rangers to the title. The game started fairly evenly, ISA edging a midfield battle, with Matt Warren and Scott Ditchfield more than coping with Werburghs playmaker Carl Fowley. The home side took the lead on 20 minutes, when a free kick was cleared only to the edge of the area, where a waiting Christian Jones dug out a spectacular curling effort which hit the top right hand corner. A goal to grace any game. From a centre half, ffs! Werburghs remained pinned in, but a second would not come. The equaliser came after the visitors had hit the bar from a sublime Fowley free kick, which had Mozzer "graspin' at reet thin eeerrrr". A ball into the box broke to a Werburghs player, who made no mistake from 7 yards. Half time 1-1. The visitors almost took the lead immediately after kick off, when a long punt by the keeper caught the wind, and caught the ISA defence out. The visiting centre forward headed it over Moz, only for the ball to bounce up and off the bar. The home side came roaring back, the keeper for Werburghs making three or four good saves, one especially from Matty George that looked to be past him. Renns was also denied before the move of the match saw Ditchfield play Renns up the wing, his left foot cross in the "corridor of uncertainty (copyright Andy Gray)" met by George who smashed his shot onto the bar and away. All in all a good point for both sides, as Eight Rights Rangers got beat 3-1 at Egerton Arms Athletic, and ground was gained by both sides. The Egerton side travel to Blacon this Sunday. Alman programme gets an airing Following the purchase of his charity badges at the zoo, ISA captain Clive Alman finally has his research shown on TV this week. More information can be found here, whilst some of the games he uses to entertain himself are found here. Thanks to OS Dog for pointing these out. It would not have been right if Oly's hard work had gone to waste... Another belting win Following the cancellation of the Bache game, and then the postponement of the Brom at home, the lads travelled to County Officers in Upton to play Bromfield Arms FC in the away fixture, our last before Christmas. In a close game, the lads came back from 1 down, then from 3-2 down, to go on and win 4-3. Matty George bagged a hat trick (apparently!), including a cracking winner, Marc Edwards notched the other with a crafty lob. The lads do not have a game now until 15th January, due to the postponement of the St. Werburghs PC FC game on Jan 8th. Great win for the Blues The lads came away from Tattenhall with a great 7-3 win over the home side last Sunday. Nick Jones got 4 goals, Matty George two, and Matty Warren got one. We were 7-0 up before allowing the home side 3 late consolations. Next week we are at home against Bache FC. Smith's loony rants My friend and me, looking through my red box of memories, found some memo's by Terry... so would have sang Richard Ashcroft if a mate of his was playing at City under Coco the Clown. First in a series of, oooooh, 4, is this rant about Rushden and Diamonds, and how Blues were the 'Best Team' in the Conference and shouldn't be worried. Fuggin loon. Read it in it's spasmodic glory here. Great kids programmes Try these out for size (better with broadband). Murphys Mob. Kickstart. Jamie and the Magic Torch. Jossies Giants. Spongebob Squarepants my fat hairy arse crack. Just right click and hit "save target as". Superb. Hope the people at the utterly wonderful TV Cream don't get too arsey... "Because nothing lasts forever, even cold November Rain" Bloody hope not Axl my mate, because the lads have not pulled a boot on in anger since the excellent 2-0 away win in Kingsley. The match at Barrow against Tarporley Wanderers in the Cup was postponed due to tractor pulling or something, and the game is now not likely to be played before the new year. Looking at the Imps, we wont be playing until the new millenium, but that is another story. Co-Manager Brighton, in reply to being told there would be no game in the Cup 'til January by the League Secretary, responded "Superb". "Why so happy?" asked the confused official, "Because it's the longest we've ever been in the Cup!". Quality. October. When the trees are stripped bare, of all they wear, what do I care? A great game at home to league leaders and the only Section C unbeaten side Eight Rights FC ended in a close 3-2 defeat, following us taking the lead and unfortunately missing a first half pen. Only a 20 yard scuffed shot which shot up off a divot and over Bryan (in goal for holidaying Moz) won the match for the strong visitors. The next week saw the visit of Section A side St Theresas FC in the Chester FA Cup. Once again the lads took the lead, and also pulled a 3-1 defecit back to 3-3, but the visitors overcame the lads in the last 20 minutes, to leave the lads to concentrate on the League. The 23rd saw a visit to the wonderful facilities of Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club, illustrious home of the less illustrious Bache FC in a Sunday Cup second round match. A superb first half performance saw the lads go 3-0 up at the break, a couple of goals for the excellent Nick Jones, and one for Marc Edwards. The home side rallied in the second half, although it took a cracking 20 yard free kick to deny Mozzer his first clean sheet of the season. The following week it was our chance to avenge one or two bad results at Red Lion Frodsham FC, who play in Kingsley. The match was played in what felt like the tail end of Hurricane Wilma, on a pitch which resembled a Redrow site prior to bricklaying. A hard fought first half saw ISA go close on several occasions, with little in the way of an attacking threat from our hosts. The second half saw more golden chances go begging, and it was starting to look like one of those days when Ditch played a lovely through ball from the edge of our half. Fray fought Renns (guilty of missing a guilt edged chance seconds before) off the ball, and calmly strode through the mire to fire in the first. A long throw from man of the match Renns was then flicked on at the near post by Ditch, which enabled the excellent Matty Warren to powerfully head home the second, and seal a great win. Add to this a clean sheet by a very solid looking back four, and this was one of the performances of the season so far. Good start for lads Two wins and a draw signalled a great start for the Blues. With a potentially tricky opening day game against Royal Oak, the lads were a bit wary, but a sterling display gave us an 8-1 win. Second up were Tarporley Rangers, who were dispatched 3-1, and a 4-1 half time lead became a 4-4 draw at home to the Black Dog last Sunday. Still, 5 points sees the lads into a good second place after 3 games, behind 100% record holders Eight Rights FC. TBG has done some great match reports which appear here. Changes at the top Due to Mark Howell moving on to pastures new, Paul Brighton has taken over as Club Secretary. Brighty has taken the role on from mid-July, and will now look after the day to day running of the Club. Anyone wishing to address any queries about the club can contact Paul here. Mark will continue in the more background role of Chairman (more background meaning he does nowt), although he is still available for selection ON the pitch (or more likely, bench!). Dave Cartwright, founding Treasurer, has also resigned due to pressure of work. We are currently actively seeking a treasurer to help out (maybe 10, 15 minutes a week), preferably one with Excel experience, and one who can count. Please contact Paul or Mark if you can help. It really would be a massive lift to get another one of the lads on the committee, and helps stop the 'leave it to those 4' mentality of the Club. Club Captain Clive Alman has been co-opted onto the committee as Social Officer. Oly's first role will involve a presentation night, to be held in a local pub somewhere. We would like to welcome Clive aboard. Brighty will also be joining Scott Ditchfield as co-Manager for this new season. This is a massive leap for Paul, who, along with Rob Wellings, retired from playing at the end of last season. This will give the management a set of eyes and ears from the touchline, and finally relieve a little bit of pressure off Ditch, who can get on with concentrating on his own game. Remake of Disney classic on in Chester now...

Brighton goes hairless
Take 10 cheap razors. Lots of alcohol. A gaggle of team mates. Liquid soap from the pub toilet. What have you got? A hairless stag. Pits, chest and pubes. Apparently he is unable to wear deodrant. All those who missed, definately missed out. I'd be suprised if he hasn't got welts from the whipping he got later on, but that, as they say, stays on tour... The pic has been altered to protect the protagonists, and to hide his knob! The scream when the aftershave hit his pits will stay with me to my grave... Mixed bag for the Blues Aaahh.... it's been a while, so time for an update. Following the win at MBNA, a first half Matty George double was not enough to win the game at the Bache who replied twice in the second half. From there followed a very unfortunate 1-0 home defeat to the Champions elect Custom House, on a Tuesday night with a severly patched up team. A strong performance that would have earned a deserved point if we'd finished one of our chances. From there it was onto the home game against Egerton, which was, to be fair, one of our worst first half performances in a long while. 3-1 down at the break, the lads fought back to 3-2, then 4-3, but could not find the equaliser. Matty George 2 and Lee Miller got the goals. From there it was onto Upton and the Black Dog. From 1-0 up (Matty George), to 3-1 down with 10 mins left. Cue a Matty George curling corner into the top corner, and a last minute Mark Howell equaliser for 3-3. Undeserved, but we've played well and lost this year so you take the yin with the yang. Next up were the Bache, back at the Imps harbouring hopes of promotion, but leaving following a comprehensive 6-2 defeat. A hat trick from Matty George, one each for Marc Edwards, Graeme Reynolds and a thumped Pete Jodrell goal sent them back home pointless. This was followed last Sunday by a 4-0 tanking at the hands of the Custom House, who clinched the Section C title. In the last game of the season, we lost 4-1 at already promoted Corner Pin. Mark Howell glanced home a consolation header with a quarter of an hour left. End of Season Fixtures
Sunday League Cup Final The Sunday League Cup final is being held on Sunday 1st May at Christleton FC. It's between Lache or Boughton and Mail or Theresa's. It should be a cracking game, and Jim Roberts is reffing so it will be entertaining as hell! It's usually a good laugh, and it's a reason to try to get back to Chester after Brighty's stag do in Liverpool the night before. I will be there serving my jankers with the kids! Field of Dreams nightmare for Bankers Following last years disastrous debut on the MBNA 'Field of Dreams', Ditchfield swapped his starting XI around in preparation for the space and control it gave. Pulling Matty George out to the left, and playing Reynolds up front with Howell, the switch worked a treat. Reynolds feasted on some lovely through balls from George, Howell, Ditchfield and Miller to put the lads 4-1 up at the break. The hosts then lost 2 men for F&A language towards the referee, and the Blues fell apart! Back to 4-3, the pace of Jodrell was introduced. A fine move involving Reynolds, George and Jodrell led to Reynolds being tripped in the box. Matty buried the penalty for 5-3. He then scored again, a fine curling shot from 18 yards, before the bankers clawed a consolation. A great win against the promotion chasing bunch of bankers. The following week the lads travelled to Filkins Lane, home of Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club, and The Bache. Two up at half time through Matty George, the lead was hauled back when "kicking uphill in the second half" (courtesy of the Gaffer), and the game ended 2-2. Another fine point though. Edwards avoids the Green Mile Marc Edwards received a full pardon at his Cheshire FA disciplinary hearing last Wednesday night (2nd March 2005). Marc, who had been quite unfairly sent off after being punched in the 4-0 home win against St Werburghs PC FC, was told that following hearing from the lad himself, his witnesses (Andy Johnson and Lee Miller) and the referee, that it was obvious that a mistake had been made. He will receive all his monies back, and will keep his unblemished record. The Club are thankful to the FA and to referee Mike Piercy for their honesty and help in clearing this up. This means the in form wing man is available for selection for the upcoming trip to the Field of Dreams! March Fixtures
What a difference a fortnight makes... A thorough spanking at home (0-6 to Tattenhall, no score at half time), enough said. We started the first half on Sunday in the same vain. 4-0 down to the Egerton at half time, we were crap. An excellent second half saw us get the game back to 4-3 (Howell 2, George) but to concede with 10 minutes left shattered us. Still, some of the play in the second half was amongst the best of the season, so things can only look up... Blues make 1-5 split to topple Corner Pin Probably the performance of the season last Sunday, as the 11 lads who could make it took the points off a high flying Corner Pin FC at the Imps. Struggling for a side, the ISA had to shuffle the pack from last weeks victory over the Boathouse, but did themselves proud beating the promotion chasing Saltney side 5-1. First to strike was Graeme Reynolds, who sublimely volleyed a poor goalkeeper clearance right back over the retreating guardians head into the roof of the net from all of 40 yards. A real contender for any goal of the season contest. It was 2-0 five minutes later, as a great move between Scott Ditchfield and Mathew George resulted in the keeper parrying Matty's shot into the path of Marc Edwards. It was ten minutes into the second half when Ditchfield burst through, and hit a strong shot which the keeper spilled. The Corner Pin centre half headed the ball away from the onrushing Howell, but managed to find the bottom corner. 3-0. With the visitors pressing, the defence held firm, with Matty Morris in goal making some really good takes. He was beaten though on the hour, when a visiting forward slipped his marker and headed home a corner for 3-1. It was 4-1 on 70 minutes, when Mark Howell headed in firmly following a pinpoint Ditchfield corner. It was left to Tom Kennedy's 20 yard exocet for the fifth, following Howell flicking on a Reynolds throw, but it was all over by then. 5-1 against a strong side... unbeaten in January... 21 goals in 4 games... promotion charge anyone? Boathouse sunk The lads held firm against a resilient Boathouse side who started with 9 men (11 by ht), winning easily in the end 7-3. Two of the opposition goals were penalties which were debatable to say the least. The lads went a shock goal behind after 5 minutes when a free header off a corner was converted. The equaliser was a superb Mathew George free kick which was curled in, left footed, from 25 yards. It was 2-1 minutes later when Scott Ditchfield ran off the Mark Howell flick on to finish well. The lads went 3-1 up when the aforementioned Howell turned and shot low across the goalkeeper, before Rob Wellings tried to break a forward in half on the edge of the box. The ref gave a duly converted penalty. 3-2 half time. It was 4-2 soon after the break, when George finished superbly, curling a low shot inches inside the far post from the edge of the box. It was soon 4-3 as Nev Mann was harshly adjudged to have fouled the forward in winning a tackle inside the area, for their second penalty. It was soon 5-3 though, when Clive Alman scored his second in two games, gamely running onto an excellent Graeme Reynolds through pass and slotting in well at the near post. 6-3 followed as Mathew George completed his hattrick with another left foot curler. Matty completed a great all round MOM performance when he smashed a left foot shot into the top corner with 5 minutes left following dogged work by Kev Thomas. All round good performance, with MOM George having a belter. COMPETITION! Spot the Bald Have a go. All you have to do is match the egg in the nest or fod to the ISA star. A couple of decent performances at Fortress Imperials Despite leading Black Dog all through the game on Sunday, a penalty for the Waverton side in the last 2 minutes cost the lads a valuable point. Two first half back post headed goals from Marc Edwards, a first half brace from Graeme Reynolds and a Clive Alman goal still couldn't stop us committing defensive suicide with 2 deflected goals, and the penalty levelled the game at 5-5 just prior to the whistle. The previous week the lads had strolled all over the St. Werburghs PC side, with Matty George scoring one in each half. The second half also saw Graeme Reynolds finish well, and Scott Ditchfield superbly leather in a pinpoint Marc Edwards cross after some superb build up play between the two. A great win soured only by the ref dismissing Marc for seemingly being assaulted on the floor. This was, without doubt, THE best ISA performance in a while. New signings secured Following the arrival of only 11 fit players at Tarvin, Ditchfield has raided the transfer market. Left sided midfielder Tom Kennedy, who left the Club in 2001 after a couple of seasons, has rejoined. Also signed is Chris Pender, a Hoole based mate of Nev Mann, who plays in the middle of the park also. Pictures will follow... Fixtures out for Jan and Feb
Mind yer bleedin own your a two bob... Finish the above lyric, and find out what the weather is being at the moment. Squeaked out by the Brom on the 7th November; when a Marc Edwards brace and one each for Matty George and Pete Jodrell were not enough to beat an average Bromfield side who got 5; we've only played the once. And the pitch at Tarvin resembled a farmers field... With only 11 available due to work commitments, the lads struggled to a 7-1 defeat. It was 6-1 at half time, and if Dave Lightfoot deserved to be on the losing side that day then I'm a monkeys uncle (no offence captain!). At the time of writing the away game at Westminster Park versus the Custom House is still on so fingers crossed... Can you help us?
Upturn in fortunes for the lads... A couple of close defeats for the lads (Bromfield away 3-2, and Werburghs away 5-3), were followed by a stirring fightback from 4-1 down against MBNA to draw 4-4. After Bryan Coleman slammed in in the first half, Matty George capitalised on a Graeme Reynolds ball to narrow the defecit to 4-2. A Mark Howell header with 20 minutes left made for a hectic climax, which saw player/manager Scott Ditchfield convert a Howell through ball for the point. If the game had gone on 2 minutes longer... (or if Dave "Johnny Owngoal" Lightfoot hadn't have notched for the Bankers...)... After another free week, the lads travelled to Tattenhall looking for a first win since the opening day of the season. A very solid performance (the writer wasn't there, soz) saw Renns bang in a Marc Edwards cross following a great move for the winner. From various parties we should have won by a few more, but still a good two points from a place that is never easy to get a win. Special mention to Neville Mann who came off the bench at ht to claim an MOM in centre midfield. Johnson leaves, George joins... The transfer merry-go-round continues with the departure of Andy Johnson, following a falling out with a couple of the lads, and in comes Matty George. Matty, who was formerly with the Ship FC when they won Section C a couple of seasons ago, has joined following contacting Ditch through work. The season has started well for Matty, who has bagged 3 goals in 3 starts for the Blues. Mixed start to season The season kicked off with the Blues travelling to Westminster Park to face the Boathouse. Our hosts, last years wooden spooners, were bolstered by the addition of a few decent new faces, but had little answer to Andy Johnson. The Saltney lad bagged all five ISA goals in a 5-3 win. Then, resplendent in new NWL sponsored blue and white striped kit, we took on last years section B relegated side Tarvin Rex. Another from Johnson, and a first (hopefully of many) for Pete Jodrell, was not enough to prevent our visitors from taking the two points in a 4-2 defeat. Last Sunday the Stanley Arms visited the Imps in the first round of the League Cup. An excellent performance saw the lads go one up after half an hour, Marc Edwards calmly slotting home a Graeme Reynolds cross. Unfortunately the lads couldn't hold on. A ball breakingly hard free kick drew the section A side level before half time. A poor first ten minutes saw the Blue and Whites gift the visitors two more, before the ISA started to play. Mark Howell, in for the injured Andy Johnson, headed poorly over; Scott Ditchfield should have done better from 16 yards; Pete Jodrell dragged a shot wide of the far post... The fact was that with a little better finishing, the lads would have gone through. Overall though an excellent performance from the lads, and one that will stand them well for the coming season. First fixtures of new season out now
Pre-season starts well Following Ditch's attempts to assemble a half decent squad this season, it has been really heartening for the gaffer to see such good turn outs in training and at the pre-season friendly matches so far this summer. With the total of signed on players getting on for 30, the turn out at the Art College last Wednesday (11th August) was superb. Debuts for Carl Cottis, Dave Campbell, 'Mozzer', Pete Jodrell and the return of Andy Johnson saw the lads battle really well and earn a 1-1 draw with the section A side. Graeme Reynolds bagging for the blues. 21 lads travelled in a convoy up the A483 to Wrexham last night (18th August) to play Brymbo Sports and Social FC at the fantastic 'Crick'. Following some decent drubbings there in recent years, it was with some trepidation the lads climbed the 100-odd steps to the fantastic pitch which is carved into the side of a hill! The side starting had the look of what Scott seems to be after, strength at the back, pace wide and quality up front. If someone posts the name of the goalie I'll stick it up, I never really got to talk to him. The back four started with captain Alman at left back, Nev Mann and Dave Lightfoot at centre halves, and the lungetastic James Davies at right back. Midfield saw Marc Edwards wide right, Graeme Reynolds wide right, with Scott Ditchfield and Andy Bailey in the middle of the park, with Pete Jodrell and Andy Johnson starting up top. The lads started like a house on fire, and a very good move resulted in Renns getting free on the left and squaring for Johnson to score in the first minute. Absolutely dominating the opposition by now the lads continued to create chances, with Andy J being denied several times by the excellent home keeper, and both Pete Jodrell and Ditch blazing over from well inside the box. We paid for this by conceding a couple of goals, and the hosts were leading 2-1 at half time. Half time saw Stevie Mann replace James at right back, and the Blues seemed to grab the game by the balls. A great ball from Ditchfield saw Andy Johnson running into space to finish coolly, 2-2. Johnson then broke around the back of the Brymbo defence to square the ball nicely for Marc Edwards, who made no mistake from 10 yards in slotting the ball in off the far post. It was then all change, with Jamie Greatorex coming on for Ditch in the middle; Mark Howell replacing Andy Johnson up front; Bryan Coleman replacing Alman; Jon Hocking replacing Nev Mann; Tom Kennedy replacing Renns and Paul Brighton replacing Marc Edwards. Andy Bailey then fed Jamie with a nice pass, Jamie threaded the ball through to Brighton on the right hand corner of the box. As he ran onto it Brighty smacked it with the outside of his right foot into the bottom corner of the net. Goal of the game, and that was 4-2. Mike Burke then replaced Pete Jodrell up front, and could have had a couple, and Paul 'Shivvy' Anstey came on in centre midfield for Andy Bailey. The lads took everything thrown at them, and could have scored more, but the game petered out with the ISA lads 4-2 winners. Back to the Club for Chip buttys and the second half of the England match. Winning 4-2 and watching England win 3-0 in Wrexham... a Chester lad's dream??? Season ends on a high The mixed fortune that the lads enjoyed throughout the season was echoed right through to the end. Following a magnificently spectacular row in the tranquil surroundings of the Tattenhall Sports Club, a war council meeting was held in the Sportsmans pub. The effect of that meeting was superb. The lads pulled together to produce some superbly solid performances. Some never got the results they deserved, score lines like the 8-2 home defeat by Corner Pin masked the fact that with only 11 fit players, the fight and the togetherness of the team boded well for the rest of the campaign. Off the back of that Pin defeat, the lads went on a run of 3 wins in 4 games, with the defeats of Werburghs and Corner Pin specific high points. Along with a win against the Bache, where a Neville Mann header was enough to take the points, these wins were enough to ensure the Club did not have to seek re-election. A couple of poor defeats to Black Dog and Red Lion were followed by a 3-3 draw with bottom side the Boathouse. The last game of the season was a real highlight for the lads, being played on the Deva Stadium just 4 days after the mighty Blues had secured the Conference title on the same pitch. The game was evenly matched at half time, with Neville Mann putting the Blues ahead, but as Ditch made his 6 subs the lads lost their shape and were defeated 4-1. Still, a memorable end to a less than memorable season. The lads ended up in tenth place (or third from bottom!) with 15 points. We played 24 games, winning 6, drawing 3 and losing 15. 74 goals were shipped, whilst we only managed 35 (definitely a major headache for the gaffer). With Ditchfield currently rebuilding for the summer, with 2 new acquisitions already secured, the clever money would be on the blues having a better year next year. NWAS May 2004 A great start to the New Year! Following very little football in December, the lads returned to action at County Officers on January 4th and came back with a much needed win. Welcoming back Andy Johnson from knee surgery for his first game of the season, the lads were 4-0 up at half time. Johnson departed to allow Mark Howell get 45 mins following his broken leg got at Red Lion in the Cup. The lads ran out 5-2 winners in a fiery game. Johnson bagged himself a brace on his return, with the terrible twins Coleman and Ditchfield also scoring in the first half. Marc Edwards claimed a badly deflected fifth... The following week the lads played host to the Boathouse on a very muddy Imps pitch. A very hard fought first half saw the lads playing into a very strong wind, and coming off 1-0 up through a Bryan Coleman goal. The second half was always going to be easier, with a couple more, one from Johnson and another from Coleman either side of a penalty for the visitors. The two points pushed the lads above the Bache and Tattenhall into fourth bottom place. A good start to the year, and a chance to push on in the coming months. Dee Miller defeat not demoralising Although the lads lost 3-1 at the Dee Miller on Sunday, the performance was once again an improvement. Going 2 down at half time, the ISA, resplendent in borrowed Highfield FC blue and red shirts, rallied and pulled one back against the league leaders through man of the match Steve Mann. Graeme Reynolds with a header and Steve Mann with a flick on from a Ditchfield corner both went close to claiming an equaliser, before the home side scored on the break in the last 10 minutes. A real improvement which left everybody positive going into next weeks game with Custom House. "No. 2, to be fair son, you are s&!t. Do us a favour and put it on Ditchy's head... Cheers, good lad." Report on the point earned at the Egerton Arms Athletic, replete with crowd entertainment, is available here. Tyler Durden Story 2 online now "Similarly, as Ditchfield continues to emphasise, we all need to be committed and get in amongst the teams we play. When it comes down to it we play in Section C after all the the league isn't all about skill, players who play hard and intimidate their opponents can go places - Section B in fact." Hits the nail on the head really doesn't it. Tyler Durden Story episode 2 can be seen here. Blues clinch priceless point Despite going two second half goals down, the ISA lads came back to claim a point from the Egerton Arms at Westminster Park. A goalless first half saw James Davies hit the bar with a header, and Marc Edwards denied by a fine save from the home keeper. The lads then conceded twice in five minutes before a dramatic fight back. First of all Steve Painter was the lucky recipient of an excellent Neville Mann flick from a corner for 2-1, and then Painter threaded a great pass to Bryan Coleman, who smashed a low left footed shot from 12 yards for 2-2. It was the minimum the Blues deserved following their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the same side the week before. We were thankful for an own goal that day! "Get a f*&$*%g grip Ref you old b*$%@d" ISA legend David 'Mellor' Melson goes poacher turned gamekeeper on Saturday as he referees his first League match. The game in question is Kydds Athletic vs. someone. I bet he's a right bastard who sends all the bookings in and fully loves the power! Good luck Bruce. Stirling website work That Old Skool Dog Rob Wellings has worked wonders. The website now has a new name, www.chestercityisafc.co.uk , which is altogether easier to remember. We are also hoping to get some sponsorship deals set up with bookies to try to raise some money for the Club. Comings and goings... The lads have lost the services of Steve Wainwright, who decided he "didn't need the hassle" after the MBNA game, and Dave 'Ronaldo' Bolton who hasn't been seen since that day either. Injuries are also taking a toll, with Kevin Thomas out for 6 weeks with knee ligament damage, Dave Ellis awaiting brain scan results, and Mark Howell's broken leg keeping him out until after Christmas. Coupled with Steve and Nev Mann both working shifts (as well as Painter and Thomas) the headaches Ditch has are bad. On the plus sides, Ditchfield has signed League record goalscoring ISA legend Andrew Paul Johnson, who is hoping to play again before Christmas; Spanish import Jose Vilches, who is a Real Madrid supporting midfielder boyfriend of Mella's daughter; Paul from the Egerton Darts Club Monday night side and James Davies, Mark and Ditch's bitch from work. This should help make the team up to eleven on a Sunday morning. Nutmeg thoughts... Clive 'Oly' Alman was beautifully megged on the Imps during the recent impromptu training session following the abandonment of the Red Lion game. Here Alman can be seen picking over his thoughts the following weekend...
We came, we saw, we came second - Blackpool revisited Tyler Durden puts fingers to keys and writes up the great efforts of some of the lads in finishing runner up in the Blackpool Supporters Club Sevens. He leaves the Ditchfield/Coleman/Fire Extinguisher story for another day...click here to find out more Wrexham pics added To remind us of better times (for both Clubs probably), I have added a couple of Chester/Wrexham pics onto the website. To find them click here. I will be adding a few more soon so keep checking back Three defeats... A mullering 7-0 at the very impressive MBNA home 'Field of Dreams' swiftly turned it into the 'stuff of frigging nightmares...'. The lads picked themselves up, dusted themselves down and went and put an excellent performance in at Red Lion, but ending up going out of the Cup 2-0. This despite hitting the bar and going close on several occasions. The game threatened to turn nasty in the last ten minutes when a very bad two footed tackle by a Frodsham player on Graeme Reynolds sparked a furious response from the ISA line. All this after the Lions failed to show for the home game at the Imps the previous Sunday as well... The following week the lads visited Tattenhall for a League game with 12 fit players, which soon became 11. New Spanish signing Jose Vilches, who made his debut as a substitute the week before in the Cup at Red Lion, coming on for the injured Mark Howell after 5 minutes. Despite twice pegging the home side back through excellent Marc Edwards and Graeme Reynolds goals, the lads conceded twice in the second half, losing 4-2 at the end, again despite hitting the bar twice. Hopefully the luck will change soon, as we need points on the board if we are to pull clear of the re-election zone at the bottom of Section C. The Tyler Durden Story A new season, a new Tyler column. Sunday Muddy Sunday's favourite hack starts afresh with a look at all things section C, and ISA FC in particular. To read the first instalment click here... Thanks for the memories... I have completely stripped back the photo's section, and redone them all. Click here to find the menu. Over 50 pics now online. Most people are stitched up in here! Gutted. Last minute and out of the Cup Tyler doing nothing again, but keeping you guys informed about the Cup game at Deva Social. Find it here. The Reports keep coming... If Tyler Durden works for the government, he is doing nothing for YOUR tax dollars except write ISA match reports for this site! Another cracker, about a very satisfying win against the Black Dog, can be found here. "Up stepped Ditchfield to flight in a fantastic free kick. Believe me, the keeper had no chance." Tyler Durden must have no work to do, as he has written the first two match reports of the season, the Vicars Cross Dynamoes defeat, and the battering of the Bache in the Cup. As you can see above, he is attempting to cement his position in the side by shining the gaffers ego! These two reports can be found, with many others, here. Injury time goal knocks lads out The Blues went to Hoole Park on Sunday, and were beaten by the odd goal in seven by Section A side Deva Social. Despite going behind three times, the lads pulled themselves back into the game three times, with Marc Edwards converting through balls from Mark Howell and Clive Alman, and Steve Mann glancing home a superb Scott Ditchfield free kick. A header from an injury time free kick gave the Section A side the victory, but the ISA proved that they are not going to be a walkover for anyone. Special mentions to Dave Ellis again in goal, and to Steve Wainwright, who is looking stronger every game. The ever game Marc Edwards did not stop running, and the midfield trio of Reynolds, Ditchfield and Mann were very impressive. Solid start for young manager Following a tossing at the hands of a very good Vicars Cross Dynamos side, Ditchfield took charge of his first home game last Sunday, a League Cup match against Bache FC. The home side were excellent throughout, and despite losing Rob Wellings five minutes into the second half following a collision (which also hurt captain Steve Painter), strode to a confident 6-2 victory. A hat trick by Mark Howell, a Steve Mann penalty and a Scott Ditchfield 25 yard free kick followed the lads first goal of the season, notched by the diminutive striker Graeme Reynolds. A tougher game altogether in the last of the seasons midweek fixtures, as the ISA, with only 11 fit players, visited the plush surroundings of Abbeygate College in Saighton for their away League fixture with Black Dog FC, who were straight off the back of a 4-1 Cup win away at Section B Dee Rangers the previous Sunday. The pitch was outstanding, which suited the ball playing Ditchfield, Mann and new signing Clive Alman. The ISA carved out chance after chance, with Marc Edwards going close with a header, before left footed Alman hit the bar. With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Alman rose unopposed at the far post to nod a Mark Howell flick on past the despairing keeper to make it 1-0. Makeshift centre half Howell, partnered oh so ably by Steve Wainwright at the centre of the Blues defence, made it two with 25 left when he headed home an inch perfect Ditchfield corner from 15 yards for 2-0. The home side pulled one back, but not before the tremendous Steve Mann hit the home bar again. Alman hit the bar again with two minutes left, but the lads held on for a great win. Special mention to the sausage and chips (and the smashing array of mott on display!) in the Black Dog after. Coach held up Very funny last Tuesday night, as a few of the leg weary turned up at the Egerton after the win at Black Dog FC, to find that the EDC were leading the only-once beaten Coach and Horses 4-1. Bryan Coleman took the oche, after playing a role more suited to a hitman at Abbeygate College, and destroyed the Coach landlord. The lads continued to keep the heat on and toasted the Chelsea of Chester Div 4 darts 7-2. The funniest thing of the night was when we realised that they had all come in taxi's, expecting a procession on the night to lead to them winning the title! The faces on them when they were getting their taxi's home (and not to Rosies!). The win put the lads into the mid table obscurity of 5th position. Creditable victory A rather depleted squad of 12 took on the Highfield's fledgling Saturday squad, which had several former ISA players amongst their numbers (Simon Bagbie, Greeny, Sarnie, Scott Morgans, Tiz, Tommy Hollinger), and got a very good 3-2 win on the Art College. The game, which signified new manager Scott Ditchfield's first game in charge, was won by goals from new boy Dave Bolton and a brace from Marc Edwards. Blackpool Part Two "You fucking idiots! You have placed the whole building in danger! I should kick you out! You're going have to pay for all the fire extinguishers you have used!" Upholding the good name of the Club, the 'ambassadors' take to the sights, sounds, smells and sauce of Blackpool... New Manager Due to home commitments, Paul Brazier has brought his tenancy as team manager to a close. Paul has been team manager for the first three seasons of the Club's history, and steered the team to the League title in 2001/02. The committee in particular are sad to see Paul stop (he will still play when he is available), as he used to give them a game! Paul's replacement with the selection headaches will be Scott Ditchfield. Scott has played for the Club for 2 1/2 seasons, and has earned the respect of the players with his consistently superb performances. On behalf of the committee and the lads, I would like to thank Paul for everything that he has done, and to wish Ditch all the best for the coming season. Good luck lads. Changes on the committee The committee has changed a little over the summer. Paul Brighton is to take the Chairman role off Secretary Mark Howell, and Graeme Reynolds has joined the committee. The committee now sits as below
Any committee members can be contacted on this e-mail address Captain Fantastic shines again Captain of the Egerton Darts Club, Lee 'Prince of the Port' Miller, won his heat of the singles tournament on Tuesday night without losing a leg in the Northgate Arms. Bryan 'Cabriolet' Coleman had gotten beaten before your erstwhile hack had even got to the Ship Inn. We are waiting on news of Mark 'Honey Monster' Howcroft, who had won his first round match... Three defeats in a row sees heads start to drop... Following a tossing at the hands of the Red Lion in Frodsham, the lads were beaten 5-4 by a resurgent St. Werburghs PC side. The ISA goals came from Graeme Reynolds (2), Steve Mann and Mark Howell. The following week, in mad conditions an all yellows game saw Team Boot obtain their first two points of the season, beating our heroes 6-4 on the Roodee. The ISA goals were grabbed by Steve Painter (2), the ubiquitous Graeme Reynolds and the returning from Spanish exile Rob Reay. Could be a cold, lonely winter ahead... Buoyant Blues chopped down to size by excellent Red Lion The Blues went to Castle Park last Sunday to play the Red Lion. The Frodsham side were excellent throughout, and despite a superb spirited comeback from the (by then) 9 man Blues, the home side held out to beat us 5-2, probably the most comprehensive defeat the lads have had in the League for 15 months. The ISA scorers were Scott Ditchfield and Mickey Hollinger in a game which saw Paul Burns and James Green sent off and six others booked. The referee also stated he was to report Mark Howell and Paul Brazier to the FA for misconduct. Blues get just rewards at Tattenhall "The Blues haven’t been scoring, and if you don’t score you don’t win. Write that down." Two Ronnies waxes lyrical on the Blues great 4-3 win at Fortress Tattenhall here... New fixtures out now
New 7-day theory Tyler elucidates on the current Chester City ISA FC troubles, and offers his reasons as to why certain people should basically put up or f--k off. "So much pain to ease my simple mind. No hope. I've been crucified and no one seems to care." The 7-day Theory - Day 1 is here. Site added to... I have managed to rescue some old pages from the first version of the site, and also have got hold of some reports from one or two of the first friendlies the Club played. So if you never saw the old site, or if you fancy seeing some of the old stuff again... The Section D Super Scout reports are here; Rofts Snifters gets all loud and abusive about Guinness and Tia Maria here; Manny Crook's betting outrages air here; an article including a couple of very early match reports (friendlies against Southend ISA and the Byron) are here; and all of the match reports that survived my hard drive crash (about 10) from our very first season in the League are here. There is an article on football and music written by NWAS for a fanzine here. Enjoy. Cup Blues For the second week running the lads capitulated against strong Section B side to crash out of the Chester FA Cup. The visitors, Waverton, went a goal up on 20 minutes, only for Paul Burns to cap his superb start to the season with the equalising goal. James Green, outstanding in goal for the Blues, then magnificently saved a penalty, before being beaten by a 20 yard cracker. Mickey Hollinger hit the underside of the bar for the ISA, who were hoping for penalties, before two late goals took the visitors through. Last week it was Section B's Spital Vaults who knocked the lads out of the League Cup, 5-1 at the Imps. Kevin Thomas got the goal. New Tyler column launched
Lads get first win under belts The lads travelled to Saltworks Farm in Frodsham on Sunday, and came away with the two points following a narrow 4-3 victory over the Bulls Head. Graeme Reynolds (2) and Scott Ditchfield (direct from a corner) put the lads 3-1 up at half time, but the hosts hauled us back to 3-3. Up step Marc Edwards to flick the ball over the goalkeeper with the deftest of headers for 4-3. The lads defended well, with Dave Melson picking up man of the match for a very solid display, and held on to take the two points back to Chester. This week sees us at home in the Chester FA Cup against Boughton side, Spital Vaults who beat Duddon 4-1 in a replay last week. Big man, fine arrower Mark 'Rofty' Howcroft walked (or to be more accurate, staggered) away with the Eight Rights Darts Club Player of the Season. Darren 'Daz Ultra' Hawkswood was voted 'Most Improved Player', and Paul 'The Beautiful Game' Brighton was awarded Clubman of the Year. A big thanks goes from all the lads to Lee 'Prince of the Port' Miller and Neil 'Beer Towel' Howell for their roles as Chairman and Secretary. Believe me, I can appreciate the work that goes in. The new winter league season starts on 22nd October, and anyone wanting to contact Mill can do by mailing us. An editorial of sorts... Being a football supporter for
so many years, the end of August always signified a brand new start, an
untrodden snowdrift, a blank canvas if you will. No-one had done anything to be
castigated for, everybody has 'everything to play for', as every single one of
the embittered old cliche ridden hacks trot out every year. I am no different.
My beloved Chester City gives me a chance to see my mates again, a chance to
marvel (very) occasionally at sublime skill, a chance to cheer the occasional
blinding goal, a chance to feel the elsewhere unattainable high of a last minute
winner. Away. On a Tuesday night. In the middle of winter (I am shuddering
writing this!). "Flash, boom, aaaaaaahhhhhh!" So said Queen, about the remarkable superhero who, rather infamously, only had 'fifteen hours to save the universe'. Flash is also a computer language, and CCISA FC full back Rob Wellings is a bit of a whizz with it. He has created a little treat for all Blues everywhere, here. Slow start to Section C campaign The Blues have had a slow start to their third season in the Chester and District Sunday League. After losing a couple of influential players over the summer, and signing some new faces, it is taking a while for the side to gel. The fighting spirit was in evidence with the comeback from 3-1 down against ROB Frodsham to earn a point on the opening day, but that vanished against Cherry Athletic when the lads lay down a bit too easily to lose 1-0. A good first 70 minutes saw us 4-1 up at MBNA, but we tired and capitulated to a 4-4 draw, and last Sunday a 3-1 lead on the hour was clawed back by Bache FC to 3-3. So a defeat and 3 draws from the first four games see's the lads on 3 points out of a possible 8, but they travel to Frodsham this weekend to face Bulls Head in good spirits. More details on the opening games can be found in our match report section here. Eight Rights Darts Club presentation night The Eight Rights Darts Club celebrate a hugely successful first season in the Chester Darts Summer League with a presentation night on Saturday, prior to club mascot Gemma Malam's leaving do (she is off to join the RAF). The Darts Presentation and Gemma's do are on in the Eight Rights this Saturday from 7.30pm (as long as we are back from Donny in time) and there is a disco and karaoke etc. It is free, but you may have to buy Gemma a pint as her old man (Darter 'Tall' Paul Malam) is buying the scran! Boys unlucky in Memorial match The lads put up a great performance in the Bill Gresty Memorial Trophy game against the unbeaten for two years Saltney Ferry. The Welsh side, peppered with West Cheshire and League of Wales players beat the lads 4-2, a result which was in the balance right up until the home sides last minute fourth.

New strip for new campaign The new home strip is now here, and is broad Sky Blue and Navy Blue shirts, Navy Blue shorts and socks. This is actual Chester City kit, that the Club sold to us at a massively reduced priced. Helping us help them! The away strip will remain the same for the foreseeable future (Yellow and Black stripe shirts), but has been tarted up with new Black shorts and socks. We will be buying a new set of away shirts as and when the funds allow. Friendly defeats The lads have played a couple of friendlies over the last couple of weeks, losing both. The first was ruined by the shin length grass at the Art College, where a strong St. Werburghs side beat us deservedly 2-0. The lads played well in patches, but tired quickly and conceded a couple of soft goals in the second half. The second was a better game, played on the better surface at Saltney Community Centre against the Highfield FC from Section A. The lads battled well after conceding sloppily from a corner in the first minute, and held their Imps co-habitors until the fortieth minute when a strong run and good shot from the Highfield number 9 beat the excellent James Green from 12 yards. A great move and through ball from Steve Mann sent Bryan Coleman through to lob the onrushing keeper from 20 yards for 2-1. The Highfield scored a couple more, and it was on 60 minutes that ISA captain Steve Painter had to come off, complaining of stomach cramps. Alun Griffith then broke his duck for the lads with a great shot off a superb Scott Ditchfield pass. Then it went to shit as the Highfield got 3 more through a makeshift back four, to leave the final score 7-2. A strong run out for the lads who, with four first teamers missing, were by no means disgraced. The fight in the side, and the flashes of a passing game that were on show bode well for games against less capable opponents. Special mentions must go to James Green, who was splendid, Bryan Coleman who had an excellent debut up and down the left hand flank, and to Steve Mann, who was excellent alongside the ever dependable Scott Ditchfield. Johnson departs, Reay to return Goal scoring machine Andy Johnson has left the Club to join the reigning Ellesmere Port Sunday League Champions Castrol Tessuti FC. Johnson, who was voted Section D Player of the Year last season, played a total of 16 games for the team scoring 62 goals in the process. We all wish him the very best for the coming season. On the other hand, flying wing-back Rob Reay will be rejoining the shirts when he returns from his spell living in Spain in late November. The lads have also signed Marc Edwards, an attacker from Saltney; Simon Lowes, a midfielder from Blacon; Mickey Hollinger, a centre forward from Blacon; Bryan Wright, a full back from Blacon and Rob Wellings, an Ipswich supporting defender. Sunday League restructured The Chester and District Sunday League members voted to reduce the size of the League from 4 divisions to 3 for next season. This will see the demise of Section D, with all Sec. D sides (us, Tattenhall, Ship Inn, Bulls Head, St. Werburghs PC, Flogas FC, Shropshire Arms, Egerton Arms Athletic and Red Lion Frodsham) starting next year in Section C, along with the three new sides MBNA FC, Bache FC and Team Boot. Along with Tarvin Rex, Ring of Bells Frodsham FC and Custom House FC already in Section C, this makes a 15 team division. We will have to play TEN more games next season to complete the season, a total of 28. Add to that Cup games and this could be a busy year. The League will commence on September 1st and run until 30th May. Comments welcome on the message board. New Sponsor found The Club has been lucky to secure new sponsorship for a new away strip this season. The kit, made by Umbro, will be emerald green shirts with black trim, black shorts and black socks. The plumbers merchant Graham (Hartford Way, Sealand Road Industrial Estate - all the best in heating and plumbing!!) have stumped up the cash, and we will bear their name on the front. This comes on top of the ISA sponsoring us for a replacement home strip. The sky/navy striped shirts are actual originals from Chester City FC, and will be worn with navy shorts and socks. Blackpool cancelled Sorry lads, received this e-mail earlier this week. Speaks for itself really... :-( ========== Dear Mark, ========== Presentation night pix now online... The owner of the flag we think is the regular Deva Chat contributor 'Bear in the Big Blue House'. Total, complete and utter RESPECT to you, Sir.
