Tamar Center (Project L.I.F.E.) - Pattaya

Is there hope for the prostitution problem in Thailand? Tamar Centre says 'YES'. Located in Pattaya, Tamar Center was opened in August 1999. Our vision is to work with local churches to show the love and compassion of Jesus by bringing help and healing to the estimated 20,000 girls and women in Pattaya involved in prostitution. Each week team members go into the red light area to make contact with the girls who work in the bars and on the beach. As relationships are developed, the girls are invited back to Tamar Center where they can learn English, take part in special activities and go on different outings. In addition to this, they are invited to join the special rehabilitation program where they can have the opportunity to live in a safe place, receive counseling, job training, further education and take part in income generating projects. Through social, emotional and spiritual help, each girl is prepared to return to Thai society in a way that reaffirms their dignity and self worth. Recent statistics estimate that there are a total of 2 million prostitutes working in Thailand. Tamar Center is helping to make a different! No matter what the exact figure is, one person is one person too many.
