THE VILLAGE OF VASSILIKA ON LESBOS
Vassilika, a village a little north of Polichnitos, and east of the Gulf of Kallonis, is a cute old small village that most people just pass on the way to another destination. Still it is worth to explore this quiet and beautiful village for a bit. Besides the traffic on the main road that leads through the village there are practically no cars or motors. Inside the village there are cute (and steep!!) alleys with pretty old houses and I have counted five churches, amongst which the smallest one I ever laid eyes on (directly beside the main road, I suspect about 2 square meters big). There is also a fountain where you can get a free water supply for your empty bottles (along the main road). One of the churches in Vassilika has a lightblue dome and beautiful stained glass windows. A bit further inside the village are some more attractive churches and you have an amazing view over the sea. Next to the old ramshackle houses are beautiful renovated ones.
