Agios Issidoros Beach on the island of Lesbos in Greece
Agios Issidoros is a beach / village 2 kilometer east of the interesting town of Plomari in the south of Lesbos. There are a couple of hotels and tourist shops, and the beach comes with some sunbeds and umbrellas. A large part of the beach is without them and is very quiet, so a choice to everybodies taste. Next to Agios Issidoros is the Ouzo Museum and the quiet beach in front of the old ouzo factory that has fallen apart. The ouzo museum is opened during tourist season between 8.00 and 20.00 o'clock and the admitance is free. You can see how the ouzo is made and there are a number of pictures and and ouzo glasses. The tour takes you trough the factory and the shop that goes with it. Agios Issidoros is a large and more sandy beach with here and there a small pebble. In between Agios Issidoros Beach and Plomari you find a number of (mostly deserted, but nice) pebble beaches with cristal clear water where you can go for a swimm. This is where we spend some time naturist style (you were not overlooked and these beaches were empty at the time, so no textiles for us). Close to Agios Issidoros Beach at the end of a short and narrow road you find the small and intimate fishing village of Agia Varvara with a couple of fish restaurants and pensions. |
