Tennessee State University coach Ty Evans started the following lineup: 5-10 Sr. Jaden Wrightsell, 5-9 Jr. Jasmine Broner, 5-11 Se. Taylor Roberts, 5-7 Sr. Andreana Wrister, and 5-7 Sr. Breannah McCullah.  Eastern Kentucky University coach Samantha Williams countered with 6-2 Sr. Jayla Johnson, 5-11 Sr. Bria Bass, 6-3 So. Emma Hacker, 5-9 Fr. Alice Recanati, and 5-10 Fr. Kendall Wingler.

 

Alice Recanati has a flair for the dramatic as she had not scored until 3.6 seconds remaining in the game as she nailed a three point basket from the corner as time expired on the shot clock and Eastern Kentucky clinging to an 66-64 lead ensuring a 69-64 victory over Tennessee State.  Eastern Kentucky led by 11 points in the third quarter but Tennessee State rallied to make it close.  The score was tied four times and there were five lead changes in the game.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 42.9% from the field including eight of 21 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 19 of 23 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored seven points off 14 Tennessee State turnovers.  Tennessee State shot 33.3% from the field including four of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on 18 of 20 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 19 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.

 

Jayla Johnson led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points and five rebounds.  Johnson was eight of 11 from the field including three of three from beyond the arc, and six of seven free throws in only 26 minutes.  Kendall Wingler added 21 points including two three point baskets, seven of eight free throws, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  5-10 Jr. Kynnedy Azubike recorded nine points and seven rebounds.  Bria Bass pulled down eight rebounds.

 

Jaden Wrightsell led Tennessee State with 20 points including six of seven free throws, six rebounds, and four assists.  Taylor Roberts added 16 points including eight of eight free throws, three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  Andreana Wrister recorded 11 points including four of five free throws.  5-8 Fr. London Fairs chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.  Jasmine Broner recorded 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Belmont led 40-37 at halftime but pulled away in the second half to defeat Eastern Kentucky by the score of 79-55.  The score was tied four times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Belmont shot 42% from the field including nine of 30 from the three point line.  The Bruins connected on 12 of 13 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 29 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky shot 34% from the field including nine of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on 12 of 19 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Belmont turnovers.

 

Destinee Wells led Belmont with 25 points including two three point baskets, seven of eight free throws, four rebounds, six assists, and two steals.  6-2 So. Cam Browning added 19 points and five rebounds.  Jamilynn Kinney recorded 14 points including four three point baskets and three steals.  Conley Chinn chipped in with 10 points including two three point baskets and eight rebounds.  Tuti Jones added two points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

 

Bria Bass led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points including four three point baskets, seven of seven free throws, and 11 rebounds.  Bass was seven of nine from the field including four of six from beyond the arc.  Alice Recanati added 12 points including three of four free throws, five rebounds, and four assists.  Emma Hacker recorded four points, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.

Eastern Kentucky did not have an answer for O’Shara Booker in the paint and she led Austin Peay with 21 points and nine rebounds.  Booker was nine of 12 from the field and three of four from the free throw line.  5-4 Sr. Brandi Ferby added 10 points including seven of eight free throws and three rebounds.  5-6 Fr. Nina De Leon Negron recorded eight points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Brianah Ferby chipped in with six points including four of four free throws, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Ella Sawyer recorded three points, three rebounds, six assists, and three blocked shots.

Murray State University outscored Eastern Kentucky 65-45 over the last three quarters to earn an 82-66 victory tonight,  The Colonels did not have an answer tonight for Macey Turley and Katelyn Young who found opportunities in the paint all night and combined for 44 points.  Murray State University shot 47.5% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line.  The Racers connected on 18 of 21 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 12 Eastern Kentucky University turnovers.  Eastern Kentucky University shot 39.1% from the field including seven of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Colonels connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 37 free throws, and scored nine points off 12 Murray State turnovers.

 

Macey Turley led Murray State with 26 points including five of six free throws, four rebounds, and four assists.  Katelyn Young added 18 points including seven of seven free throws, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Bria Sanders-Woods recorded 14 points including three of three free throws, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Lex Mayes chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and three assists.  Laci Hawthorne recorded six points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  6-0 Fr. Hannah McKay added five points and six rebounds.

 

Jayla Johnson led Eastern Kentucky with 22 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and two steals.  Alice Recanati added 12 points, two rebounds, and four assists.  Kendall Wingler recorded 12 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Bria Bass chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds, and two assists.  Emma Hacker recorded three rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.  6-1 So. Anysa Jordan added seven points and four rebounds.
