Lexington Catholic coach Scott True started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Rachel Blake, 5-8 Sr. Octavia Wilson, 5-9 So. Caroline Lynch, 5-4 Sr. Sara Cawood, and 5-4 So. Bailey Browning. Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 6-0 Jr. Sarah Cooley, 5-11 So. Dee Givens, 6-4 So. Ashanti Thomas, 5-6 Jr. Megumi Nagahiro, and 5-6 Jr. Ken’yale Demus.
Lexington Catholic came in as an underdog but battled Lafayette down to the wire before dropping a 54-48 decision to the Lady Generals. Lexington Catholic trailed 28-17 in the second quarter but actually cut the deficit to three;51-48 with 27 seconds left on the clock. Lafayette shot 42.9% from the field including four of six from the three point line. The Lady Generals connected on 14 of 21 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 11 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic shot 28.1% from the field including seven of 28 from beyond the arc. The Lady Knights connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers.
Sarah Cooley continues her habit of collecting double-doubles as she led Lafayette with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Ken’yale Demus added 10 points including two three point baskets. Dee Givens chips in with nine points, five rebounds, and three steals. Ashanti Thomas recorded eight points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots. 5-9 8th grade Kiara Pankins added seven points and three blocked shots.
Octavia Wilson ends a stellar career at Lexington Catholic with 24 points including five three point baskets and four rebounds. Rachel Blake added 11 points and seven rebounds. Bailey Browning chipped in with six points and six assists.
