A Assist, Attendance AB Scorer's notation for At-bat ACE A team's best starting pitcher ADJUDGED is a judgment decision by an umpire. ALLEY The section of the outfield between the outfielders. Also called gap. APPEAL an act of a fielder in claiming violation of the rules by the offensive team. Any instance when a team questions the call of one umpire by asking another umpire to overturn the call. Commonly occurs when the defensive team feels the runner left the previous base before the ball was caught on an attempt to tag up. The defense calls time out and tags the previously occupied base. If the second umpire thinks the runner did leave the base before the ball was caught, the runner is called out on the appeal.
AROUND THE HORN A double play going from
third base to second base to first base. Assist A throw or deflection of the ball from one player to another that either results in a putout or would have resulted in a putout if an error had not occurred. a play by a fielder that helps put a player out. Statistically, a fielder is given credit for an assist when he throws the batter or a runner out at a base.
The scorer's notation for at bats is AB
Average A statistic which describes some facet of a player's performance. Examples are batting average, slugging average, earned run average, and fielding average. Refer to the statistics page for the proper formulae to calculate these statistics. AVG Average (see above)
