"My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging."

-Hank Aaron

To begin . . .

Find a guide to learn the proper techniques.
You have come to the right place!

Become a student of hitting
and
practice the proper techniques as often as you can.

Let's talk about which Big League hitters to watch and what to look for in their swings. Actually, you need to turn your TV into a great hitting coach.

One of the best things you can do, to dramatically improve your hitting, is become a better student of the game. Watch hitting any time you can -- on TV, at the park, or rent a World Series video. You need to become a hitting scout evaluating exactly what each hitter is doing right and wrong. When you can see the right and wrong in other hitters, you'll start to feel what's right and wrong in your hitting, too!

Following are some players to watch. They each demonstrate a great example of one part of the complete hitter.

Hitter

   Form

Ken Griffey Jr.
Cincinnati Reds

Very soft stride
Stays inside the ball

Barry Bonds
S.F. Giants

Chokes up
Selective Hitter

Juan Gonzalez
Cleveland Indians

Front knee cock
Weight transfer

Tony Gwynn
S.D. Padres

Two strike approach
Situational hitter

Albert Belle
Baltimore Orioles

 Loose top hand
Head position

Luis Gonzalez
Arizona Diamondbacks

 Open stance

Mark McGwire

There's a lot to be learned from watching the best players in the game.
