If you are VERY new to SMB2 all together, then this is the section for you. Keep in mind that you don't defeat enemies by jumping on them, like in almost every other Mario game. Instead, you pick up vegetables, objects, or even other enemies and throw them to defeat enemies. The game is very unusual from other Mario games.
You jump like any Mario game, though. Simply press A. Hold the button to jump higher, until you reach the jump's maximum height.
If you hold Down (to duck) long enough, your character will begin flashing, indicating that your Super Jump is charged. Now, jump and you'll jump much higher than usual. If you move, however, while charged, you lose the charge.
Hold B or R to run. You can make longer jumps by doing running jumps, which is important to keep in mind. Running jumps are also slightly higher than normal jumps.
Stand atop an object/enemy/grass patch and press the B Button to pick it up. How fast the item is picked up is determined by your character's strength and the object's weight. Now, as you hold the object, you can throw it at about a (-45) degree angle forward by pressing B. If you throw it while moving, it will go farther. Some items, especially the heavier ones, go straight down when you perform a standing throw instead of the (-45) degree angle.
Any of these objects can be climbed. Stand in front of them and press Up to begin climbing. Hold Down to slide down the object, or press Left or Right to slide to the sides. Jump to drop right off.
You can enter vases (think Warp Pipes) by standing atop them and pressing Down. Inside is usually crammed up. There are sometimes goodies inside vases, and sometimes even enemies! Invesigate vases often. Sometimes, you can only enter vases in Subspace, which acts as a warp. Warps are shortcuts to future stages.
At the end of every stage, you play the Slot Machine game. If you collected any Coins during the stage, you can use those to play. A new feature in SMA allows you to bet coins. Say you bet 8 of your coins and one a 3-UP. You would get 24-UP! Simply try and match up the three pictures to get your rewards.
Bombs are dangerous. They can harm you, but they are required to finish stages sometimes. The explosion can destroy certain walls and blocks (if they look crumbled, they will be destroyed with bombs). Place the bomb beside the crumbled wall/block and wait for the explosion to destroy it. Sometimes, you have to throw bombs down pits at the exact right time to destroy walls. Timing is everything.
Sometimes, you can duck under enemies and projectiles, such as Beezos or Snifit's shots. Simply hold Down. However, you may immediately learn that not all projectiles, like Birdo's eggs, can ducked under.
Stand in front of a door or entryway and press Up to enter it. You cannot enter doors or entryways that are floating in mid-air.
If you can get a hold of a magic carpet, you can use the D-Pad to fly around. However, once the carpet begins to flash, it will disappear shortly after so immediately get to land before you fall to your doom! You can use A to jump off.
