EA SPORTS RUGBY 2001 REVIEW. (PC)

This is the EA Sports Rugby 2001 review, my personal review. I know this isnt a anime type game, but since im a rugby fan and have nothing to do, i thought i might just review it.

EA Sports Rugby was supposed to be released during the 1999 rugby world cup. But i dont know, they released some where around 2001. Hense the name Ea Sports Rugby 2001. But really this is rugby 1999, because there is a world cup mode, and plus the teams were up to date with the 2001 teams. They tried putting a few modern players in, like Pita Alatini of the All Blacks in. The thing about this game is that...so many features are missing. Its pretty different from real-life rugby.

Review:

Graphics:
Graphics on Rugby 2001 just doesnt compare to the FIFA soccer series. FIFA is one of the most detailed games i have ever played. Stadiums are detailed to every inch, with fully animated crowd, nicely made players (some players on FIFA look like the real players !!). FIFA has 50+ kinds of different faces, facial hair and hair style, which makes one player more unique than the other. Everything detailed to perfection. Whereas Rugby 2001...Stadiums are just too basic, they dont really look like the real-life stadiums, crowds...dont even get me started. And how they say 'realistic player likeness.' My arse, Jonah Lomu, he is a pretty hard man to stop, probably up to 3 guys to take him down, well on the game, the smallest guy can tackle him without a sweat (it seems that way). Rucks and Mauls look like crap, nothing like the ones on TV. Scrums and lineouts are pretty cool. All The players look that same, i mean...only what about 3 hair styles and only moustashe and goatee. Skin toning but really they just look the same. But EA Sports Rugby 2001 does have some good points, it has good polygonal modelling, they are nice and smooth with good correspondance to your commands, tackling is good, fending well, more ways of getting off a tackle would be nice, players getting dirty when in contact with the muddy grass which is kool,
Overall:7/10

Sound:
The sounds on EA sports rugby, are very high in quality.Getting tackled you hear the player grunt with a "oopf" and a "arrggh." Crowds are nice, when you score, "YEEEEAAAAHH" and if you miss a penalty or a conversion..."AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW". The thumping crunches in tackles, and chanting of the crowds make it worth while when your playing. The whistle commands are like the real-life whistles. A couple of bad points are that, its always a English commentator, i mean no offence, but when your New Zealand challenging the Aussies, its just...we arent use to that kind of accent, i dont even think its good for rugby !! And they always repeat it selfs at times, scoring a Hat-trick of tries is a major achievement for a player, but when you get four tries they just say your a 'try scoring machine' and when you get another they say the same thing. Man i scored 14 tries with this one player and its, not enough excitement from the commentary. But still its all good and sweet.
Overall:9/10

GamePlay:
When your first starting to play the game, the button configuration can be a bit frustrating or confusing the first time, but then you get used to it and it isnt so bad. Its good when you play a friendly that you can adjust ones team stats to be as good as anothers. Or you can make your team invisible and make the other, very very very useless or vice versa. With seven game modes is good, but it had left out all other domestic tournaments, such as the Super 12 tournament. No team management which sux, you play with the default team when you play friendlys. Only in tournament mode such as the RWC and tri-nations/6 nations e t c, you are able to change the line-up before the match. Too bad that this didnt really have stuff like, fighting or high tackling, it would be MUCH better if it did so. Conversions, line-outs and scrumaging is good as it is, although i think it would be a little better if it showed the scrums engaging. But it brightens your day when you score a try, real life rugby you get too much oppotunities. Well i have to admit this "wheres the bug spray." So many bugs in this very anticipated game of rugby. Rucks and mauls, just crap. Rucks just looks like scrums with less players and a player on da ground. Mauls the same thing, except theres a few players standing. Player look drunk sometimes when you wanna make them turn around, no side stepping, what the hell, a rugby game with no ability to use agility is just not good. Like most games, you can run right through a player. Half backs, normally the littlest person on the fielf can dump Lomu, Impossble. The number of bugs in this game are just endless. If your a rugby fan you'll notice, and think that EA Sports can do alot better. But still very addictive.
Overall:8/10

Final say:
This game has its ups...and very low downs. But This game can be easily modified (if you have the PC version).
One more thing. TANA UMAGA HAS DREADS !!!!, HE DOESNT HAVE SHORT HAIR, dont worry about other players with long hair but damn....thats his trademark !!!
