 | Tanis Half-Elven, the self-sacrificing and fearless leader of the Heroes, is a man filled with inner-conflict and self-doubt. Being that he is the product of a brutal mixed-race rape, he has been split between his mothers' Elvish half and his father's human side since his birth. With no family or race to depend on, he finds comfort and acceptance among his friends from the town of Solace. Before he moved to Solace he lived in Qualinesti with his uncle, the Speaker of the Suns, but the only love he received in his home was from the young Laurana. He was hated by Gilthanas and Porthios and tolerated by the Speaker. On many occasions the dwarf Flint Fireforge was invited to the city to sell his wares and Tanis was amazed by him. When Flint was in town you could always find Tanis watching him and one day Tanis left with Flint. Flint is the most fatherly figure to Tanis and they began living together in Flint's house at the base of the great vallenwood. During that time Tanis met Kitiara Uth-Matar and the two began a relationship. As the adventures begin, and after Kit has left the group, he slowly realizes that his companions turn to him for guidance and help, and have deemed him the "leader." While trying to fulfill the role of the leader as well as attempting to overcome his love for two completely different women, Tanis is forced to come to terms with his conflicting inner problems and his love for Laurana and Kitiara. During the War of the Lance his conflict was greatest, with having Laurana adventuring with the companions and Kitiara keeping an eye from her high position as Dragon Highlord. |
