Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was set to break records across the world. Its superb graphics were, at the time, better than anything previously, and the story was seemingly unbeatable.
When the game was in development, the designers promised 4 confrontations with Kain, and the deaths of all the other Lieutenants.
But, as the game ends with the almost rip-off ending, there had only been 2 confrontations with Kain, and not all Lieutenants were dead.
Apparently, when quizzed on why this was the case, the developers revealed that the game was incomplete. Apparently, there was supposed to be a lot more in the first game, but there was no way they could have fit it all on one disc, so they decided to split it into two games.
But, even on the second game there are no more fights with Kain.
Still, even with this annoying flaw, no one can deny that this game is one of the best games ever. Raziel was in more homes than Lara by the end of the year, showing just how popular a decaying vampire can be when put in the right place.
The gameplay isn't anything special - your typical jump and slice buttons. But, with the horrid

enemies, and gruesome deaths, you just can't resist, can you?
The graphics, on the other hand, are VERY special. And, to top all this beauty off, there are virtually no loading times in the entire game! What more could you ask for? Blood? Hahahahaha. Sorry.
Anyway, the Legacy of Kain series was, after this game, extremely well known, and in almost every home on the planet. The Playstation had never been graced with such a beautiful game before in its life. This game was the game that proved that the Playstation is the king.
Still, it could have done with a better ending. I won't spoil it for you if you havn't played it for some reason, but you will be disappointed. In fact, it is the second most disappointing ending in a game that I have seen. First was Better Dead than Alien on the Commadore 64, when it said "We never expected anyone to get this far so we didn't bother putting an ending sequence in". So, you can see that this ending is bad. It spoils an otherwise perfect game by being crap. It makes me so angry that designers of games have nothing better to do than annoy me. Like FFVII, the ending of the game was disappointing.
