Who We Are:

Michael V. Gershowitz

After graduating from City College of New York, Michael worked his way through graduate school as the education writer for the Long Island Press, then one of America’s ten largest evening daily newspapers. After completing his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science at New York University, he served as Executive Director of the New York State Assembly Education Committee and as Executive Director of the New York City Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Youth Services. He was Professor of Public Administration at Long Island University for thirteen years, and Chair of the Department for six years. In his grant consulting career, he has written some 200 successful government and foundation proposals, raising over $100 million for his clients. He founded Gershowitz Grant & Evaluation Services in 1990.

Joyce Luhrs

After receiving her M.A. in communications from Columbia University, Joyce established Luhrs & Associates, which provides project planning and communications services for public and private clients. She also has significant grant consulting experience and has been associated with Gershowitz Grant & Evaluation Services since 1995. Joyce represents the Gershowitz firm primarily in the Northeast, but also travels around the country as needed.

Jim Henness

Jim has earned his Associates Degree in Computer Networking, and is currently pursuing his Bachelors Degree in Technology Management. Jim brings a wide variety of skills to the table and has proven to be an invaluable asset to our team. Jim is currently being utilized as our Webmaster & Marketing Coordinator.

Paul Kirpes

Paul heads The Philanthropy Group, fund-raising consultants in Des Moines who assist public and non-profit organizations in designing and implementing a wide range of fund-raising strategies, including major donor gifts, special events and capital campaigns. Since these services complement those of Gershowitz Grant & Evaluation Services, the two firms periodically combine resources to provide clients with a mix of effective development strategies.
