What is video card?Your computer's video card translates the digital screen display stored in memory to the analog signals required by your monitor, particularly CRT displays. All video cards have RAM memory on board (called the "framebuffer") which is used to store the image currently on the screen. The size of the framebuffer determines the number of colors that may be displayed simultaneously, and the maximum pixel resolution of the computer's desktop. Advanced video cards provide convenience features like video capture, integrated TV tuner, support for multiple monitors and/or 3D acceleration. The PCI slot provides adequate performance for routine graphics; cards which provide high-end features use the AGP slot. ![]() |
