Description

Ermine Street Guard

ErmineSG.jpg (18838 bytes)

The oldest and still one of the largest re-enactor groups, based in Britain.  Lots of images, appearance schedule.  Slow to load.

Antonine Guard Roman Research Society

standard bearer?

Performs at the Antonine Wall in Scotland.  Site includes links, schedule, and images.

Colchester Roman Society

leg-colchester.jpg (45352 bytes)

Re-enactors in, of course, Colchester, U.K. who differ from other re-enactment groups in that they primarily simulate auxiliaries.

Rome Combat Simulation Society

A "fight club" under the auspices of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  Not for purists.

Cohors I Germanorum

No image available

German auxiliary group.  In German and not much to the site, as far as can be told.

Legio I Italica

No image available

Atlanta, Georgia.  Apparently just a contact page for a fledgling group; no other content.

Legio II Augusta (U.K.)

legIIaug-UK.jpg (30659 bytes)

Based in Hampshire, U.K.  A fun site with lots of content, attractive design, and many photos.  Offers a drill training video for new conscripts, for sale to the public.

Legio III Gallica

legioIIIgallica.jpg (138039 bytes)

New Orleans, Mississippi.  Enthusiastic leadership, cooperative ethic.

Legio IV Flavia Felix

No image available

New group, bills itself as the "first Roman legion in Canada" -- assuredly this is so!

Legio V Alaudae

No image available

New legion from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with unfortunately rather sexist outlook: "Women are also welcome, but will be camp followers, cleaning women, etc."

Legio VI Ferrata

Newly formed in Arizona, emphasizing authenticity.

Legio VI Victrix and Cohors VI Asturum (German)

Based in Germany.  Attractive site uses frames.  For now, text only in German, but an English mirror site is under construction.

Legio VI Victrix
(U.S.)

No image available

Los Angeles, California.  Simple contact site, one page only.

Legio VII Claudia pia fidelis

legio.gif (12594 bytes)

Canton, Ohio.  Started July 2000, one contact page, but actively recruiting.

Legio VIII Augusta

Graphically rich site of a well-known living history unit based in southwest Germany.

Legio VIII Augusta Martia Gemina Victrix

Successful group founded in Wales, U.K.  Site uses frames.

Legio VIIII Hispana

legVIIII-AUS.jpg (8849 bytes)

Australian legion.  Light-hearted, well-illustrated site.  Guidance provided on uniformity and rules.

Legio IX Hispana Roman Re-enactment Club

leg-IXhispanaCA.jpg (20070 bytes)

Southern California, associated with SCA.  Many enthusiastic members; not terribly picky about appearance.  No active link at this time; supposed to be coming to www.legio-ix-hispana.org

Gemina Project

Site of Legio X Gemina, based in the Netherlands.  Photos and schedule of appearances.

Legio X Fretensis

No image available

St. Petersburg, Russia.  Site is in English and Russian.

Society for Roman History in Austria

legXIII-Austria.jpg (43971 bytes)

Legio XIII Gemina, an Austrian group.  Also features auxiliaries.  Nice photo gallery.

Legion XIIII: Ancient History Brought to Life

leg-brought.jpg (8261 bytes)

One of the better organized groups; stationed in the southeastern U.K. It's a fun site, tons of photos and glitzy effects.

Legio XIIII Gemina Martia Victrix

No image available

Wisconsin, U.S.  New group, following philosophy of Legio XX (Maryland).

Roman Military Research Society

legXIIII-olejnik-uk.jpg (24815 bytes)

Re-enacting Legio XIIII Gemina in Coventry, U.K.  Award-winning group; a comprehensive, useful site.

Legio XV Apollinaris

legXV-norway.jpg (103941 bytes)

In Norway.  Practices "role-playing" the Roman army.  Classy site is in English and Norwegian.  Modified 3 JAN 01.

Legio XX: the Imperial Roman Twentieth Legion

legioXX.jpg (34620 bytes)

One of the best of the U.S. legions.  Group based in Maryland/D.C. area.  Photos, patterns for uniforms and equipment.  Meticulously accurate and generous with information.

Legio XX Ballistaria

In U.S.  Re-enacts a 1st c. CE legionary artillery crew.  Some good photos and discussion (but annoying layout).

Legio XXI Rapax
and Ala II Flavia

The pre-eminent German re-enactor and scholar Dr. Marcus Junkelmann is associated with these units, based at the Aalen Limesmuseum, Germany.  Ala II Flavia are cavalry re-enactors.

Legio XXII Primagenia

Cincinnati, Ohio.  Start-up legion with ties to Legio XX (Maryland).  A promising website under construction.

Legio XXII Primagenia (France)

No image available

In French.  Not exceptionally authentic-looking but seems to enjoy a well-rounded appearance schedule.

Legio XXIV "Media Atlantia"

legXXIV-PA.jpg (26511 bytes)

Re-enactors affiliated with the SCA, based out of Pennsylvania.  Site chock-full of nifty tidbits and photos.
