A female voice

Melissa Etheridge

Melissa Etheridge debut album from 1988 includes the song ‘Bring me some water’ this is the first song that I heard from her. The video was frequent showing in the fall of 1988 on the Television. On this album you can find more good song like ‘Bring me some water’. This album together with ‘Your little secret’ is my favourite album by Melissa. Melissa’s debut was at the same time as with a wave of female artist.

Her next album was ‘Brave and crazy’ came the year after her debut and is not that bad. The songs on this album don’t have same quality as her debut. There are no ‘Bring me some water’ on this album. This album then has more even quality than the debut where the ‘Bring me some water’ stand out from the rest.

The third album by Melissa Etheridge from 1992 called ‘Never enough’ she continues to with music from the two previous albums. ‘Dance without sleeping’ is the song that is my favourite here, other good song on this album is ‘Meet me in the back’ and ‘Must be crazy for me’. This was the last album that Kevin McCormick would produce together with Melissa.

The fourth album is the album that has had most commercial success in USA. In my opinion this album is the one that I like the least of her five albums. It has to slick production compared with the other album. Maybe that’s why was such a success in the USA. It fits perfectly on the radio there.

The fifth album by Melissa called ‘Your little secret’ is one her best album so far. It start up with the title track, a good rock that I really like a lot. The production on this album is the best of her albums. The best with this album is that she on this album really does the kind of music that I hoped to hear after hearing her first single 'Bring me some water' would sound in the nineties.

Her albums so far

  • Melissa Etheridge (1988) ****
  • Brave and crazy (1989) ***
  • Never enough (1992) ***
  • Yes I am (1993) ***
  • Your little secret (1995) ****
  • Breakdown (1999) ?
