Tori Amos

Tori Amos first album is not 'Little earthquakes' but 'Y kant Tori read'. This album was released in 1988 under the name as 'Y kant Tori read'. The album is a bit different what you later will hear from her. Still it is not that bad.

Tori Amos first 'real' album is 'Little earthquakes' from 1991. This album is so far her best album with songs like 'Silent all these years', 'Crucify' and many more. The music on the album is concentrated around Tori's piano playing. The lyrics are very interested and need your full concentration. There are few albums that like this album that have made this impact like 'Little earthquakes' did to me. I can recommend it!

Tori's next album 'Under the pink' from 1994 have songs like 'God', 'Cornflake girl' and 'Pretty good year'. The album is different than her previous album. She has here started to grow a more complex sound. By these I mean that on 'Little earthquakes' she in many songs only relied on her piano to build the song. On 'Under the pink' there are more instruments on the songs. This has continued on the later albums by Tori. When I was in Germany in 1995 I pick up a special version of this album called 'Australian and New Zealand 2CD tour edition' that includes 11 extra songs on 'More pink'. On this CD there are some very good songs from Tori that only are included on here singles.

Tori Amos third album 'Boys for Pele' from 1996 is the album that I like the least from her. I am bit disappointed with the album. From these album Tori did have #1 hit in England with the dance remix of 'Professional widow'. Sure there are some good songs on the album but not enough in my viewpoint. 'The problem for me is that there are song that I don't like at all on the album like 'Professional widow' and some more. Still songs like 'Father Lucifer' is really good.

Tori Amos latest album 'From the choirgirl hotel' from 1998 took me sometime from me to buy. After have seen the video for the first single 'Spark' from the album I thought okay lets buy it. This album is a strange but very good album. The only album by her that is better is 'Little earthquakes'. The album is not that sounding as 'Little earthquakes', but more like 'Boys for Pele'. Still I like this album because this is more like 'Little earthquakes' not in the sound but something that I can not put my finger on. The album starts with the first single 'Spark' and then there are great songs like 'Cruel', 'Raspberry swirl' and 'Jackie's strength'.
