Rosanne Cash
Rosanne Cash is the daughter of the country legend Johnny Cash. She had a couple of hits around 1979 to 1982 with songs like 'Seven year ache'. The music is mainly country on the first three albums that she released. On her 1985 album her music was more pop/rock oriented than her previous albums. From this album is the first song that I heard by Rosanne Cash was 'Hold on' from the 1985 album 'Rhythm and romance'.
Her 1987 album 'King's record shop' has both songs with country influences and songs that more in the singer/songwriter tradition (i.e. none country songs). In 1989 she released a greatest hits album that included songs from her 5 first albums.
In 1990 she released her 'Interiors' album that was inspired by her divorce from Rodney Crowell. This is the first album that bought by her. The album is really has an introverted feeling. The album is one of the best albums that I have in my record collection. This is because I really like the both the lyrics and music on the 'Interiors. There is mellow feeling the music that is something that I really like. The album is produced by Rosanne her self nearly all her previous songs was produced by Rodney Crowell.
The next album 'The wheel' from 1993 she continues to develop the music from 'Interiors' and this album is a bit more cheerful than the previous one. On this album she has help by John Leventhal to produce the album. On this album you can find great songs like 'The wheel', 'The truth about you' and many more. On this album has more lyrics about relationship.
Rosanne next album 'Retrospective' from 1995 is both a collections of old song and at the same time she have recorded song by other artists here, songs that not been released before by her. The oldest song on the album is from 1987 (King's record shop). Most songs on the album are from 'Interiors' and 'The Wheel' and she have included songs from collection that she has been on. This album is a good starting point to check out her later part of her music.
Her last album so far '10 song demo' from 1996 is a collection of good songs. The album is collection of demo version of that would be a real album but the record company man was so impressed by the quality of the song so they decided to release it as it was. On many of the tracks it is just Rosanne's voice and a guitar or a piano. This album really shows that you don't need that much production if the lyrics and music in the songs are great.
