Toni Childs
I did discover Toni Childs by reading about her and that she had worked with David Ricketts from the duo David & David that I like (their only album). I found Toni's first album in my local library and borrowed and really like what I heard. Today I have all her album except her first that I only have on tape.
Toni Childs first album 'Union' was released in 1988 from this album she did have a minor hit with 'Don't walk away'. The producer on this album David Ricketts who later can be heard on Sheryl Crows first album. 'Union' is the one of Toni's albums that I have listen too least. On the album you can find great songs 'Where's the ocean', 'Stop your fussing', 'Zimbabwe' and 'Walk and talk like angels'.
Her second album 'House of hope' starts of the song 'I've got to go now' that is really great song. The lyrics about that she is leaving her drunken husband with the kids. The album has many good songs that I really like. On my version of the album I have included a Spanish version of 'The dead are dancing'. This album I can recommend.
Her third album 'The woman's boat' is my favourite album of hers. On this album she the songs are about the life of a woman from she is born to she dies. Not only are the songs great but there are some thoughts to them to. Sadly the album was not a success commercial so the record company dropped her.
From the two first albums her first record company collected the best songs on 'Very best of..'. On this CD there are two songs that not featured on the original CDs and the album was #1 in Australia!!! The album is good start if you want to check out her early stuff (the two first albums).
