The MARITA Interview

As a part of March 1999's Feature, N.V. interviewed four prolific online Noromos (via e-mail). This section was later expanded to include almost all (if not all!) great Noromo webmasters. One of the later interviewees was Marita, the webmaster of "X-Files for the Detail-Obsessed X-Phile", one of the Noromo-friendliest non-specific sites to ever hit the Web. The interview was divided into 3 parts - Marita as an X-Phile, Marita as a webmaster and lastly, Marita as an a human bean.

an x-files fan PART ONE: AS AN X-FILES FAN

When did you start watching The X-Files?
I started watching during the first airing of "Conduit" -- thanks to my channel-surfing mom. We were really creeped out (that was a good thing). Then school obligations on Friday night kept me away from X-Files. It was better for me when the X-Files moved to Sunday nights.

Just off the top of your head, some classic episodes?
Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, Small Potatoes (which I think kinda started the humor trend).

How long have you realised you were a Noromo? What do you think about the whole Shippers vs. Noromos thing?
I've always been a noromo. If this were real life, I'd wish for them to get together, but for the show, I want them to remain platonic friends, yadda yadda. And I feel there are way too many shippers. :-) Need more noromos.

What was your opinion on the movie, and in particular, ~~that scene~~?
I was actually praying (out loud) in the theater for them not to kiss.

How do you feel about the characters now (eg, are you a OBSSEsor, a Mulderist, a Frohike Liberationist)?
Sure. All of the above. Pro-every character except for the Peacocks.

X-F links you love to death?
All the sites that have won the G-Team's X-Award.

What are your thoughts on fanfic? Do you read it regularly, write it? If so where is it archived, under what name?
Don't really read fanfic much, but I do like poetry. The only fan-script I've really read was by professionals trying to get a job as an X-Files scribe. I started writing a crossover piece with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it is primarily a Buffy piece with cameos by Scully and Mulder.

a brainflash! PART TWO: AS A WEBMASTER

How old is your site now?
A year and a half. :-)

What inspired you to create your site?
Pot and alcohol. Just kidding -- well, first of all, I loved the show so much I wanted to, you know, "give something back". Plus, I told my sister, "Wouldn't it be cool if all the phone numbers and license plates were documented?" and it began from there.

Do you still enjoy updating it and looking after it?
I do, but I don't really get a chance to update regularly as much right now. I'm applying for graduate school and taking care of homework, and *gasp* I can't believe I actually have a social life too. :-)

Have you had much interesting feedback from it, made any new friends / enemies?
Oh, I've made so many friends; it has been amazing. Not so many enemies, I think only two who have never revealed their identity to me (one criticizing my poems, the other an avid shipper).

What inspired you to keep archives of all these "details"? It must have been a daunting task to begin with!
(cheesy alert) Oh, it was really a labor of love. Plus someday hopefully it will be a sort of like a database organized by categories as well as episodes, and fully searchable (it kinda is searchable now too). I would appreciate help, and if anyone is inspired, please email me at spooky@mulder.com. I will give you full credit of course.

a human beanPART THREE: AS A HUMAN BEING

Real name -
Benni

Alias' used, if any?
Marita, MaritaSRSG, Noffoy, Strawberry Shortcake, Ice Cream Candy, Leia

Please list all the websites you run...
RMRJ (http://www.romymichele.com), HOWLS (http://howls.cjb.net), The Noffoy Show (http://members.aol.com/noffoy/), Itchy and Scratchy Online (http://itchy.cjb.net), and of course, For the Detail Obsessed X-Phile (http://spooky.mulder.com).

Which mailing lists / message boards / newsgroups do you usually hang around?
None much anymore, sorry.

E-mail addie:
MaritaSRSG@aol.com or spooky@mulder.com

What would be likely to find you reading / listening to / playing?
I like so many things, it's crazy. Favorite book would have to be "Labyrinths" by Borges; I play the piano and the guitar (and attempt to sing); I like most music ... right now I'm listening to Frente. Hey, if anyone cares, I'll make a little list of my musical interests: Kent, Teenage Fanclub, Beck, Cake, Posies, Crowded House, and always a sucker for '80s new wave. Did I mention that I love Star Wars?

What do you spend your time doing when your modem's turned off?
School, hanging out with my friends talking about boys like teenagers even though we're all in our twenties, writing (songs, poetry, anything), listening to music, watching movies, drawing, accumulating items for my wardrobe, planning for this year's Halloween costume, oh and that obscure wittle thing called the television.

Many many thanks to Marita for her interview. Her site, "X-F for the Detail-Obsessed" is one of the best around - not just Noromo sites, either. Her Noromosis shows through in two of the sections of her site - "Noromo Declaration" (get your site declared officialy Noromo friendly) and "Noromos At Random" (a growing response to those evil "shipper at random" rings). Not to mention X-F cross Star Wars, Fun With Guns, Bios, XNicknames, Krycek Klone Factory, Poetry and XTools! Strongly recommended for anyone! (And she is the first interviewee to provide her own extra links ... that's just too nice! J)
