What an awesome walloping of the best team in baseball! Bartolo Colon's masterful pitching performance and home runs from recently recalled Travis d'Arnaud and two from struggling Chris Young. One of the few dominate games the Mets have played this season. The Mets chased former prospect Scott Kazmir to the showers after only three innings. Every one of the starting nine had at least one base hit. If only they could hit like this every game!
I watched this game on the local A's sports channel with a Bay Area friend who is a huge A's/Raiders fan. He spent the first few innings telling me all about Oakland's feats this season. He spent time after the third inning asking me all about the Mets team that was destroying the number one team in the Majors. He wanted to turn the game off after seven innings but I refused. It was strange listening to another team's announcers talk about the Mets. Ray Fosse spent a lot of time talking about the 1973 World Series [He swears he tagged Bud Harrelson in game two]. It was nice to see the Mets beating a Bay Area team after going to all three games in San Francisco's sweep of the Mets earlier in June.
